Chikabidinne had been spending more time taking care of Tibs and bringing him with her into town. If he wasn’t too busy, she’d ask Jones to join them on strolls. Were they ever to have their own kid, she needed to be able to take care of one. Plus it was sweet watching Jones interact with Tibs. While patrolling the streets, she would be on the look out for attractive people who wouldn’t be missed as options for Asher’s new body. But in a small town, there’s only so many times before you see the same people over and over.

Pencil’s eyebrows almost shot off his head and lodged themselves in the ceiling. “Me? You want me as a host? Buddy, I’d be very bad at that. I’ve got a kid and I don’t want you getting bored. What does it even entail? What are the rules?”

Pencil wasn’t too sure if allowing this would be a good idea. On the one hand he was happy Cerpin was back. On the other hand, whenever he was around before, he was someone else’s host. Pencil looked down at his lap. “I’m pretty lousy at getting that point across. I don’t make connections with people as well as I used to. And even then, I didn’t do a very good job of it. Which is my own fault but..” He shrugged. “I already know this sounds pathetic but it’s worse saying it out loud. When I got sick, I told myself I’d get tougher and speak my mind more often. But now I find myself blurting things out when I don’t want to. The best way I show I care is by cooking or making myself useful. But it feels like most people do fine without me.”

“That seems traumatic,” Charles said conversationally.

“We’re not going to tramatize my wife so you can satisfy your curiosity.“

“It’s science! I’ll never have the opportunity to recreate this experiment again on my own.“

Charles clapped him on the back. “Never say never, old boy.”

Diedrik stayed behind with Kyrie’s head for a moment and stroked her hair.

Bas was still kind of awkward around Tristan but he thought it was so nice that everyone had come together for a single purpose.

Nothing was important to Tristan any longer aside from fixing Kyrie. The work was everything. He no longer cared about any petty problems between Charles and Diedrik, or any awkwardness Bas may have felt. He was kind and treated Bas as an old friend; he was even sweet to Stryx.

David came up and gave Chikabiddine a briefcase with Kyrie’s files.

“Can I trust you with something?“

“My name is David, I’m a Creeltech representative and they won’t let me leave the house. Could you mail this data to our offices? It is crucial that it gets there on time.“

“How come they won’t let you leave? Is this something bad?”

“No, I was hired by Dr. Lustgarden, but there was a conflict of opinion and now I’m stuck here. You seem relatively sane and not busy, would you please make sure this gets to Creeltech safely.“

“Hm, I suppose I can do this for ya. Just to the post office, right?”

“That’s all. Thank you so much, miss..?“

Chikabidinne purred. “Mrs Jones, thank you. If this turns out to be something bad that I get yelled at for delivering, I’ll be very upset.” She smiled in a way that could be friendly but was just slightly wide enough to be unsettling. “I’ll be just a minute.”

She didn’t know if this guy knew what she was so she made it a point to properly walk out the door to get outside to do the delivery, rather than poofing.

Diedrik stayed behind with Kyrie’s head for a moment and stroked her hair.

Bas was still kind of awkward around Tristan but he thought it was so nice that everyone had come together for a single purpose.

Nothing was important to Tristan any longer aside from fixing Kyrie. The work was everything. He no longer cared about any petty problems between Charles and Diedrik, or any awkwardness Bas may have felt. He was kind and treated Bas as an old friend; he was even sweet to Stryx.

Pencil wasn’t too sure if allowing this would be a good idea. On the one hand he was happy Cerpin was back. On the other hand, whenever he was around before, he was someone else’s host.
