No where to run
There was a potent smell of alcohol and cigarette smoke accumulating and twisting in the air around her as the unnoticed red head kept to herself in the corner of a bar. Around her had been nothing but groups of friends and men with their mistresses. Leliana assumed they werenât their significant others, at least she hoped not by the way they treated one another. To her it was just another town that needed saving. When the job was done, she would have carried on to the next one and then the next one. Until she found what she was looking for. That alone seemed impossible. For her, it had been hundreds of years, and if she was truthful with herself, she lost track just how much time had gone on. It was easier that way, because if she did look back and keep track then she would realize all that she lost along the way and that pain was too unbearable. In front of her, Leliana tilted her glass on the bottom edge of its rim and watched as the melted ice swished from side to side. Behind the bar, she heard footsteps, but none which were concerning enough to look up to since she figured it had been the bartender checking on her. The man was insistent she had enough, but she was too stubborn to stop. She held no shame when picking up the glass and holding it at eye level to the bartender. âAnother, Chuck.â She requested with a shake of the glass which clinked a tune to its lonely absence of alcohol. Arching a brow, the man looked down at the empty glass as he started to reach for it with a slight hesitance. âIf you drive, I need you to hand over your keys now.â âI donât drive.â She lied while heavy lids fluttered open when she took notice of her drink being filled again. The old man behind the table couldnât help but have scoffed from hearing Leliana say this, that he began to lean back. âThen, care to share how you got out here in the middle of nowhere?â He asked curiously, just before plopping a new straw into her drink once Leliana discarded the old one. After pulling her drink closer, Leliana began to stir the drink in front of her. With her forefingers, she took the straw and pulled it out to point towards the man as she answered in a calm demeanor. âMagic.â It wasnât a lie, and sure she had a vehicle⊠Somewhere. But she just had to remember where she put it last. The most convenient thing was the use of magic even if it was more of a risk since people in this time werenât used to it. It was said to only be in fairy tales, yet if people only opened their eyes they would see the truth. There was more than just magic in this world. âMagicâŠâ The man laughed to himself, only to add in a scoff as he turned to walk away. âRight.â Shifting her head to the side, Leliana rolled her eyes back down to her drink as if to begin raising it to her lips to take her first drink. But before the rim of the glass even pressed flush against her pout she paused to the flickering of the lights throughout the bar. In a groan, Leliana set down her glass and looked up to see the bartender looking to her with questions filling his very eyes. The look alone was enough to make Leliana laugh lightly under her breath as she stood to her feet. It was like magic happened in front of his very eyes, proving him wrong. âHey, donât look at me, that wasnât me.â She said innocently as she began to stand up. âBut if I were you, Iâd get your customers and get out of here.â âI canât just leave you in here with all my supplies and cashâ!â âUnless you want to die, I suggest you do that!â She insisted with a point towards the back door. âEveryone out! Now!â Just as she made her demands the front door of the bar opened which brought several patrons to jump and rush towards the back exit as Leliana instructed⊠Of course, they would run after the immediate danger was staring them in the face. Why listen to a woman? âIt looks like the cats outta the bag boysâŠâ The first demon spoke upon walking in where the last customer caught their eye. As she walked through the threshold two other demons followed behind her. Leliana saw this and quickly jumped in front of demonâs line of sight as a diversion from the innocent people. âAlright Iâm just curious did you rehearse that whole dramatic opening there in the mirror this morning, or is this all off the cuff?â She asked in a sidestep forward to close the gap between them. When those eyes came to focus on her Leliana began to reach at her belt to pull out one of her shorter blades crafted to vanquish demons back to hell. Obviously, she wasnât expecting interruptions so soon otherwise she would have been better equipped so she could have saved the hosts lives as well.
âIf you ask me you need to step up your game.â She said upon adjusting the handle of her blade in her hand and making a quick aim towards its chest. However only the tip of finely sharpened weapon scraped across flesh and emitted a snarl from the demon. Before Leliana realized it she was forced back by another demons unseen attack. Giving them the upper hand to attack her by tossing her like an abused rag doll. But not for long as Leliana rolled to her feet again as quickly as she was caught off guard. To push the second demon back with a force spell and that brought the furniture to follow and barricade them.
