Grabbed Gamma World 4th ed. for a whopping $15. What was you last gaming deal-of-the-day?

It was a good weekend for games. I bought the new Starfinder core rulebook and started making my first character. The process for making a character is well laid out and fun. I’ll be posting my characters soon as well as my notes on the process. Have you bought the core rules yet? What do you think?

Went on a painting rampage today.

Hi! I noticed that you receive the RPG Crate! I've been interested in looking into getting it. How would you rate the crate's value? Do you feel like you get your money's worth?

I think RPG crate is excellent. I have not found a reason to not like it yet and God knows I've looked for ways to save $30 a month lol. The t-shirts are definitely worth it as well as the adventures they include. The mini’s have also been very good.

Magic Mischief

I've been wanting to give my players cool magic stuff but I want to do it at appropriate levels. I just gave one of my players a magic coin that whispers cryptic warnings to him that give him a +2 on initiative. How do you dish out the goodies without breaking your game? Any good practices?

Monster Hooks #1: Aasimar

I am going to offer some story/battle hooks for monsters. I’ll be using both Pathfinder and 5e. Feel free to share your own ideas or add to mine

Aasimar is not monster but human/angel blend. They lean towards being good, joining good cleric temples etc. I think I might roll ups character and maybe combine it with the Paladin archetype Empyreal Knight.

Hooks

Protect the Baby

In a small town their is prophecy of a Aasimar being born. The adventurers must decipher the prophecy and find the baby before nefarious foes find her first. Angels and devils and imps oh my.

Get The Baby Back

It’s possible that the denizens of darkness and others (criminals, gangs, etc) may have lardy taken the baby and are holding for ransom or may keep the baby because they know a boon maybe be bestowed upon them for having the baby in their possession. Or, they may try to sacrifice the child for their evil boss and take revenge for a past slight.

The Quest

The party must take the child on a quest to find something or fight something to gain a power or to keep some harm from coming to their holy temple. They could have to bring back an important artifact or to prove their worth to join the order.

Made my first character on D and D Beyond. A great time saver, but that does not mean I will quit rolling dice and making characters the old school way. I do liked all the randomizers and the choices you have as well as having everything at your finger tips. Currently, there is no export button but I suspect that will come with the free version of Beyond.

I think I read that you’ll l only be able to make six characters in the free version. You’ll eventually have paid tiers to to where you can store innumerable about of characters so you can play them online, in multiple games. etc. but since I have never played an online game (via Roll 20, etc.) this perk does not interest me. That is not to say I will never try online gaming (feel free to invite me) , it’s just not pertinent to me now.

This is the June box of RPG Crate was Cthulhu themed. Lot of goodies here.

Loved the Mind Flayer from effincool mini’s. Gotta get some in my game soon.

Got a batch of Cthulhu themed coins which would be great to give (or take away) as players grow insane.

More epic adventures from The Bloody Bucket. They have back issues of all the adventures. I’m going to have to pick all of them up.

Next, a cool adventure from Frog God games. I may do a separate review of the adventures themselves.

Lastly, the cool Kraken T-Shirt. Got lots of compliments at the last con Was at so it’s a keeper.

July’s box should be in soon. When I get it, I will post it.

This is the May version of RPG Crate. Lots of neat goodies in here.

In every box you get a sweet t-shirt. The shirts reflect the theme of the box and the theme of this box is Arcana.

Following the shirt is an adventure (lvl 6-8) by Frog God games who will be providing re-purposed and original content.

The three adventures are geared around Chris Hinson and Teresa Hinson’s imaginary world. I think it’s their home brew game. Each adventure is a tasty bite filled with sweet hooks and fun. The setting of the Bloody Bucket is available here.

Next up are some sweet dice. Literally, the look like some weird fruit chews. These dice are as dangerous as those gel wash things.

Finally, I like how the box is used. Instead of a throw away box you have a box that can carry your minis and terrain.

Overall, a very good box and worth the monthly charge of 29.89 a month.

I ordered the Adventure Vault to test drive Dungeon Crate, and I was not disappointed. The sample box included a chest (to put your gem tokens in or to use as a prop in game), the gem tokens, which could be used for treasure found or as tokens for players to use for a free re-roll, two 5e mini dungeons from Adventure a Week (one written by a friend of mine), a full adventure called Greenskin Diplomacy (Nord Games), and some Dungeon Crate stickers.

The two mini Dungeons Carrion Holme (four characters lvl 4-8) and Summoner’s Remorse (4-6 Characters lvl 5-6).

Greenskin Diplomacy is a scaleable adventure for any level and has a link to downloadable characters from Nord Games.

The Adventure Vault cost $20 and was worth the money. The subscription is month to month for $35.95 (recurring). I will be ordering a trial subscription and let you know what I receive.
