He wanted to power on, but the mix of head trauma, days of unconsciousness, and medication took a step ahead of him. The hand on his chest dragged his eyes to look down, but the words hit in the head brought his eyes darting back up to meet hers. His fears were confirmed and he wasn’t sure how to confront them. All that carried from him was a few soft, breathless no’s and rocked between his feet trying to figure out what to do. Even though Jamies’ demand would be the only logical one. Weak knees were his downfall in this and he manages to shuffle back enough to take a seat on the edge of the bed. His hands came up to rest on her arms if not for assisted mobility then the reassurance that she is actually there, that he wasn’t alone.
It nearly hurt her more to hear him in such a state than it did to see him. She’d seen him hurt before, plenty of times if not as severely....But this? It was so rare to hear him speak, and for it to be this.... The only sign of her discomfort was the slight frown tugging at her lips. She was not one to show her distress, and now would be no different.
“Edgar,” she repeated his name, voice firm and even, the opposite of his own, “You’re going to be okay. It’s okay now.” Her own hands moved along him with ease, one settling on his shoulder while the other cupped his cheek with rare gentleness, “You’re going to be okay. I’m going to take care of you. Now calm yourself.”
