I Don’t Want to Wish My Days Away
05/20/22
While listening to a graduation speech, the one I couldn’t attend because I am drowning in homework, I realize my hypocrisy.
The advice I’ve given, I haven’t followed.
I remember when I was younger, I couldn’t wait to be an adult. Couldn’t wait to be my own master, to buy the cool stuff I saw on tv (must be 18 or older to call), to be free.
But adults aren’t free. Adults pay bills. Adults need money. Adults need to work. Humans are always slaves to something.
Still, there is beauty in every phase of life, freedom to choose what we want to do and when we want to do it. We can choose stress or joy. We can choose work or fun. We choose.
And today I choose to enjoy my present. I’ve wasted too many years of my life wishing and waiting for “what’s next” and completely overlooking the blessing of where I am right now.
I won’t do it anymore.
Yes, I am drowning in homework. But there is still joy in this moment and I have so many blessings. I am able to study at home. I have enough time to dedicate to my studies. I have a home. I have wi-fi and a laptop. I have electricity and running water and food in the fridge. I lack nothing.
I am going to live in the moment and come what may, I will be alright.
“Don’t wish your days away.”
