Last year, I wrote this piece that details 5 reasons why you should support Crossroads Theatre Project (see the website here).
With everything going on this year, and with my own growth as an artist and a human being, here are 5 more reasons to support me and my theatre work, with an emphasis on my newest play, Encanta.
You want to see substantial roles for Black stage actors and other stage actors of color.
You want to see Black stage actors and other actors of color represented in magical, fantastical, and romantic stories.
You want to see LGBTQ characters fully represented within the story.
You want to see a play where trans and genderqueer actors are encouraged to audition for roles of their preferred gender.
You want to see a fantasy story that takes aesthetic and cultural inspiration from Latin America rather than medieval Europe.
BONUS: You want to support creative projects by people you know.
ANOTHER BONUS: You want to find out what happens when a pirate and a sorceress fall in love.
I already have about $4,000. If I could double that, I could do some cool stuff with Encanta.
Stuff like:
Paying cast and crew a bigger stipend (or, if I get enough donations, a substantial fee)
Getting a good date in a nice building at a great location
Doing more with set design so that the world of Encanta really comes to life
