Final Graphic Design Presentation
Collateral:
My original idea totally backfired on me. I wanted to see if I could actually use my bird house and see if birds will come near it. Not one did. So I got to thinking that my piece is just more sculptural than functional. I thought I would make this as more of a bold piece. I wanted it to be more abstract.Â
From Clock to Birdhouse
For my representation, I was trying to find a way to turn my clock into something else but still have it be connected to the original object. I thought of a coo coo clock, which made me think bird and low and behold the birdhouse idea was created. When I was taking apart the clock I ran into an issue where there were not many parts that could be disconnected. I had use a box cutter to cut the unnecessarilyďżź bulky plastic away. As far as colors go, I wanted to stick to my Alice in Wonderland theme. Overall this project was a lot harder to put together than I initially ďżźanticipated. However, I had fun doing it. It lowkey does look like it was made by a childđ
This week we had to create 3 collages that were inspired by 3 of our questions that my object would ask Kyaâs object. Here is what I came up with. The first one I tried to take inspiration from Lynda Barry. However, I wasnât too happy with it so I walked away and came back to it. The other two were from a different mind set. I guess I was really inspired by color blocking this day. When you see these pieces they donât scream collage, however, my style is more simplistic so Iâm arguing that it is lol. Let me know what you think @kyamurray
For my questions, I took on my clockâs personality that I think it would have. To me clocks are annoying. They stress you out with time. Therefore, I made my clock very annoying, aggressive, and invasive. @kyamurray
For this weeks project I was partnered up with @kyamurray from the other Graphic Design 1 class. Looking through her work gave me some ideas for what I wanted to do for my systems. Her most recent post with the icons is mostly what inspired my work today. Something about the simplicity of icons visually stimulates me and I really enjoyed our asssignment when we had to do icons. The icons are simple images of important stages/milestones in life. The other one is numbers turned into little images. Since my object is a clock I thought it made sense. My systems will live on my tumblr for consistency. I think I want to continue to develop the icons through time one. I think I want to try to make GIFs of these icons moving (just a little bit) Kind of like the ones you would send to your friend over text. Thatâs my overall goal.
How This Week Went:
While doing this icon assignment, I wished that I had the iPad and the pen to help have a hand-drawn look. But this is what I came up with using Illustrator. I had more fun designing this simple icons than I had originally thought I would have.

In the first piece I tried to include one of my favorite pieces I had previously done. However, after doing the other two the first one is now my least favorite one I did. In the second one, I was trying to see if there was a way I could make the first one better (which I think worked). The last one I wanted to make it look like a page from a book.
While doing these additional 10 experiments, I hit a block. I was only able to conjure up three that I didnât hate. While doing art work of any kind, you normally always want to be proud of it. Hence the struggle.
Response to my work
While doing these particular pieces, I was having some pretty intense artist block. I could not create something I was happy with at all. You can see that there is a small theme with some of the them. I had watched the movie Alice in Wonderland and couldnât get it out of my head, therefore I decided to put it into my work. I was definitely happy that I could use Illustrator with these assignments. I felt that it made me less afraid to play around with words and typefaces. Â
Response to my follow up work:
I struggled more with coming up with more analog experiments. I wanted to do something different than the last time. I decided to do more sketch like experiments instead. I wanted to illustrate all the different forms of clocks there are. However after doing that I wasnât loving the idea as much as I originally did. So then I decided to make the flower piece. Which turned out to be one of my favorites. I also wanted to experiment with a short video. In the last class, it was mentioned how time flies so I wanted to demonstrate that but making it actually fly.
