"Dracula and Other Horror Classics" is a collection of Bram Stoker's writing that I've been reading intermittently all year. It contains three of his novels and several of his short stories. The novels are "Dracula"; "The Jewel of Seven Stars", which is a fascinating tale about the reincarnation of an ancient Egyptian queen, and "The Lair of the White Worm", which is a terrible book based on the British Legend of the Lambton Worm. There are so many film and television adaptations of "Dracula" that I loved being able to read the original story and discover who the famous characters were intended to be. The short stories include "Dracula's Guest", "The Shadow Builder", "Under the Sunset" and "The Squaw". I enjoyed most of Stoker's stories, but his characters seemed a bit one-dimensional - the heroes were completely good and honourable, while the villains were entirely evil. The heroes also exchanged lengthy, polite monologues extolling each other's virtues. Perhaps that's a Victorian thing. #reading #literature #books #novel #LiteraryFiction #Dracula #HorrorBooks #BramStoker #bookworm #BookReview #52BookChallenge #Book52of52 #ReadingChallenge #BookChallenge #52BookChallenge2021 #BookChallenge2021 #ReadingChallenge2021 #bookstagram #BookLover #ClassicFiction https://www.instagram.com/p/CX87L9JI1Hm/?utm_medium=tumblr
