You don’t see these two together a lot in Book 1, but when they are it’s usually because Tsuii is invading Halo’s personal space. Halo doesn’t usually mind. Unless Tsuii tries to cuddle with him. Then he gets uncomfortable...
This doodle is based on a scene (which will probably be deleted in the comic version) when Tsuii is showing Halo a bizarre type of flower (commonly known as Wisptongue). Tsuii is really annoyed by how people avoid Halo just because he looks funny, and so when Tsuii found these flowers he wanted to show Halo that there are other things in the world that look like him and that it isn’t a bad thing to look a little strange!
Only downside to this little excursion is the fact that these flowers that look like Halo? THEY ARE ACTUALLY POISONOUS. But Healer Ruka grows them on the castle grounds because the petals have handy medical properties when prepared correctly.

A scene from early on in Book 2. Tsuii has just “acquired” Szen, and they’ve been traveling in the mountains. They come across a tiny village called Crina, and in Crina is a certain Phoenix who isn’t too happy when he sees the thing Tsuii has strapped to his back…

I like to think of these three as the First Family of the Lion Tribe. Aierun and Tori with their kiddo Tsuii. Rare moment of Aierun smiling too~

More Book 2 sketches featuring Asa Sonya and her sisters Marin, Lova, and Riki. These four are well known dancers in their village and the surrounding area, and they support their family by performing for various (typically rich) merchants. They earned the nickname “Phoenix Dancers” because of their outfits and Asa’s weapon, which she uses while they perform.
As for why Asa - a Phoenix - calls three human girls her sisters, she was adopted. The Sonyas, a young farming couple, came across an abandoned baby Asa and decided to raise her as their own alongside their young son Siri. The Sonyas eventually ended up with four daughters and two sons: Siri, Asa, Marin, Lova, Riki, and Kahl.
Asa was ostracized as a kid, being the only Phoenix in a village full of humans, but she always had her family and that was enough. She was a little curious about her heritage as a Phoenix, but not to the point where she wanted to go to the southern lands to find out more. She was content to stay in her familiar area, providing for her brothers and sisters and parents.
And then Tsuii, Kyuu, Szen, and Halo showed up

Aierun and his baby sister Yumeii from Book II: Death & Rebirth. And by baby I mean an age gap of 70 some odd years. Yumeii is 4 years younger than her nephew Tsuii (so about 16 here), and she’s very independent and headstrong. And though she loves her big brother Aierun to pieces, HE DRIVES HER CRAZY. Aierun attempts to restrict a lot of Yumeii’s movements/outside activities because Yumeii is very frail as a result of how she was born. She can break limbs and get hurt a lot easier than any other Lion Tribesman. But she’s also very quick on her feet. Probably because she’s been running away from her overprotective brother since she learned to walk...
