The Forgotten Flip
This past year, I remained relatively silent as what would have been Nate’s birthday came and went. As the anniversary approaches, of the day that he left this earth, I have had a heightened sense of some things.
All things, people, places, things, objects, pain, pleasure, ups and downs, all things are meant to point us to God or maybe back to God. Every time I think of a tree being planted and growing, I think of the one planted to honor Nate. When I see butterflies and their amazing transformation, I think of the events I have done with other grieving families and the butterfly always comes up. When I enjoy this drink and work on my iPad, I think of the great design behind the technology of my device and the complexity of my drink.
But if my drink just points to a drink, what’s the point, I drink it and die one day. If the memory of a tree in honor of Nate, just points to Nate and trees, then I die one day being engulfed with thoughts of people and trees.
When I see a tree in a certain light, I tear up a little. When I see a butterfly, I think in a grander light. But what is the point. God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him. So that means I am thankful when I see that tree for the time I had with Nate. It also means I am thankful for trees. Not to mention all of the other things that are for our good that trees provide. When I use this iPad that I type on right now, I am thankful for the years of research, people who have lived and died, profound amounts of wisdom to create such devices, all so I can freely send encouraging things to the entire world.
I will wrap it up for now, but know this..... God does have purpose in every single thing. Big and small. Prominent or not. Old or young. Beautiful or ugly. There is no hesitance on God’s part to send our thoughts and souls running right towards Him.
