featuring: @theshiningidols-koukuron ( @mukami-kuron-mrsadisticcat ) about: after reading through kuron's profile i confirmed they do have a few things in common: cats and music ! so i had to use at least part of it ^^

If one asked Ryo, she wouldn’t really call herself shy. An introvert? Maybe. But she wasn’t shy: she simply liked to consciously avoid interactions that wouldn’t lead anywhere, which in a school setting meant most of the small talk students could ever bring themselves to start with her was often met with strong disinterest.

However, there were exactly two exceptions to where she would definitely show interest: either they talked about something she cared about (most of the time, that meant music) or she started the conversation herself.

In the current case, a wonderful combination of both exceptions at the same time, said interest wasn’t necessarily all pure hearted…

It had all started with a stupid proposition from one of her contacts at a certain agency she often did freelance work for. “Make an idol song”, swiftly followed by “you’re good at making music, right? It can’t be too hard but if you can’t do it, we’ll find someone else.” And for some reason, that little jab at her skills as a composer was all it had taken for her to accept jumping head on into a genre she didn’t even have the first clue about. No. Was “idol music” even a genre…?

Prideful as she was, Ryo couldn’t accept the possibility that she had bit off more than she could chew and was dangerously determined to perfectly fulfill that request no matter what. Trying to tackle the situation in the most reasonable way she could come up with, research felt like the natural first step.

And what better way to research than asking someone who worked in that exact same industry? A certain someone with pink hair and an addiction to fashion magazines and social media had been quick to point out to Kou, but Ryo had almost immediately turned down the suggestion. They weren’t even in the same class (not to mention, even the same school year) and she really didn’t want to deal with the swarm of girls that often surrounded him during break.

It was actually a teacher who came to mind after that. Once again, if Mizuki’s suggestions were worth something, Kuron was also an idol. And he looked fairly reasonable and quite capable, from what she could tell from a student’s perspective and a handful of glances in the halls, so he definitely seemed like the best candidate for her little predicament.

She didn’t like asking for help or advice in the slightest, but desperate situations called for desperate measures. Having decided to wait until the very end of the day, a little after the bell rang and most people had already fled their classrooms, Ryo made a beeline to his desk and finally posed the question, extremely mindful of keeping the right level of politeness while making her point as clear as possible.

“Sensei. If you have some free time, may I ask for some advice? It’s about my job. Or rather, about a song I’m currently working on. I could really use a professional’s opinion on it.”

“——Hmm??”

“A song?...”

Lifting his eyes toward the sudden approach of the student, he paused mid-motion—hands in the process of neatly gathering the scattered items across his desk, slipping them into his filing bag with quiet precision. The day had no detentions, no special lessons lined up, leaving him free to retreat to his homeroom for some well-deserved rest.

His features stayed unchanged, composed beneath that usual mask of cold stoicism. A faint chill lingered in his stare as his eyes lingered on the girl's face, scanning her silently for a long moment. Then, without a word, his gaze dropped back to his task. The last of the books slipped into place, and he clicked the file shut with practiced finality.

“...Unfortunately, student. I don’t tend to discuss out-of-school matters within the school grounds—or school hours—regardless of my part-time title.”

He shifted the weight of the file bag beneath his arm, lifting his usual clipboard in the same motion with a casual fluidity, before rising to his feet. Turning on his heel, he made his way toward the classroom door without missing a beat.

“However, if you happen to be that desperate for my advice and guidance——”

His voice trailed off for a second, laced with a hint of amusement beneath the crispness of his tone.

“You can always meet me somewhere beyond this place. Say, the mansion where I reside. This weekend should suffice—if you’re daring enough to come by yourself, that is.”

He glanced back slightly, just enough to flash a ghost of a smile.

“Nevertheless, I half look forward to your approach. Considering I am quite the enthusiast when it comes to song-making and invention——”

“Just not right now.”

And with that, his eyes returned to the path ahead as he exited the classroom, the heels of his footsteps echoing softly down the hallway.
