kuroo tetsuro, the perfect and persuasive businessman. kuroo tetsuro, jva’s golden boy. but you don’t know that guy, you rather be with tetsu.
he’s objectively perfect, indeed. the pipe under the sink is leaking? don’t worry, don’t call anyone. he will fix it in ten minutes — looking extremely hot, by the way. you’re late to a place? it’s okay, he’s always ready to take you anywhere.
but when his friends from high school come over to your house, most of them volleyball players, he’ll show off about how he kept his form despite not becoming professional and being in his early thirties. smirk on, eyebrow arched and an smug bickering with bokuto that makes iwaizumi huff and want to throw someone through the window.
“don’t know how you put up with him. you’re quite normal” he would say while glaring at the pair — who right now are showing off their biceps and daring each other to play in your backyard. you chuckle and take a sip of your beer, “love makes you do unnormal things, i guess”
“babe, that was so cheesy” kuroo snorts smugly, and you smirk back, holding back a laugh. “you married me anyway” you shrug, and atsumu miya cheers your beer with his protein shake. bokuto gasps and tetsuro clicks his tongue, walking towards you, “and i’ll let you know that i’d do it again. mouthy woman” he huffs and shakes his head, amused. wraps an arm around your waist and pulls you close before whispering loudly enough for everyone to hear, “you’re feeling my arm now, say i’m stronger than bo’, c’mon”
“that’s not fair! call a referee” kotaro points at him, and kuroo just stretches you against him, playfully. his biceps defines at his grip and you sigh, yet lean against his broad chest.
oh, he’s not some higher up in the jva, not some scary man in a suit. he’s just a dork, and yours, truly.

Kuroo comes home later than usual, gym bag slung over his shoulder, tie loosened, hair messier than normal. He doesn’t even do his usual teasing greeting. He just… exhales.
You look up from the couch.
“Bad match?”
He clicks his tongue. “We lost. Don’t wanna talk about it.”
He drops his bag by the door and freezes when he notices the lights are dimmer than usual. Dinner’s untouched. You’re sitting way too straight.
“…Why do you look like you’re about to fire me from my own marriage?”
You swallow. “Kuroo, can I ask you something?”
He squints. “That tone is illegal.”
You take a breath. “We’ve been married for three years, right?”
He blinks. Once. Twice.
“…Yeah?”
Then his shoulders tense. Just slightly.
“And you trust me?” you add.
Silence.
Kuroo’s mind immediately spirals—timing? questions? why is she nervous? did I forget an anniversary? His match loss is already messing with his head, so before his brain can filter—
“…Did you cheat on me?”
The room goes dead quiet.
“…What?” you say flatly.
The SECOND the words leave his mouth, his eyes widen.
“WAIT—NO—THAT’S NOT—”
He runs both hands through his hair aggressively. “I didn’t mean it like that, I just—why are you asking about years and trust and—”
You stare at him. “Kuroo.”
“I’M SORRY,” he blurts out. “I’m projecting! We lost! My brain is fried!”
You sigh, stand up, and walk over. “Sit down.”
“Yes ma’am,” he mutters, already ashamed.
You place something in his hand.
He looks down.
A pregnancy test.
Positive.
Kuroo’s brain fully shuts off.
“…This,” he says slowly, holding it like it might explode, “is a joke.”
You shake your head. “No.”
He looks up at you. Then back at it. Then back at you.
“…We’ve been married for three years,” he repeats dumbly.
“Yes.”
“And I did not, in fact, get cheated on.”
“No.”
“…I’m going to be a dad?”
Your eyes soften. “Yeah.”
For a full five seconds, Kuroo says nothing.
Then his voice cracks.
“…Holy shit.”
He laughs once—short, breathless—then his eyes start to water and he hates that you can see it.
“I accused you of cheating,” he says hoarsely, “and you’re telling me I’m gonna have a kid.”
You smile. “You’re not off to a great start.”
He stands abruptly and pulls you into his arms, holding you tight like he’s afraid this is a dream.
“I’m sorry,” he murmurs into your hair. “About the match. About the question. About everything.”
You feel his hands tremble slightly on your back.
“…I’m gonna be such a good dad,” he says, half convincing himself.
Then, quieter: “I swear.”
After a beat, he adds:
“…But if this kid inherits my hair, we’re doomed.”
it's christmas morning, and you and kuroo are opening the gifts you bought each other underneath the ornament adorned tree. on the coffee table sits two glasses of warm milk and a shared plate of freshly baked cookies to snack on, keeping the frigid air at bay.
"no way," kuroo remarks after he opens one of the presents you got him. inside is a pair of fuzzy red socks patterned with small black cats wearing christmas lights.
"to keep your feet warm," you quip. "since you always seem to enjoy putting your cold toes on mine."
kuroo chuckles at your comment and hands you a small box. "open this first. i think you'll like it."
curiosity piqued by his statement, you unwrap the gift only to find a pair of socks, the exact same as what you gifted kuroo.
"we're just the perfect match," kuroo declares. "like a pair of socks."
smiling at how you and kuroo know each other so well, you slip on the new fuzzy socks. "i love them," you say and kiss his cheek.
kuroo is quick to put on his own pair. "me too," he replies and pecks your lips sweetly.
with the socks and each other's company to keep warm, the two of you continue to unwrap your presents and spend the rest of christmas together.
“ma’am, we should head in now, it’s far too cold to be out here-” kuroo follows after you, the clanking of metal ringing out into the field as he movies.
stopping in your tracks, you turn around to look at him, eyebrow raised. “you’re such a stickler, kuroo, no wonder you work so well with my father.. now, you’re free to head inside, but i will be building this snowman with or without you,” kneeling down onto the snow, your gloved hands emerge from your cloak, scooping up bits of snow into a malformed ball.
you can hear a defeated sigh, followed by his figure kneeling beside you in the snow, the white light reflecting off his armor. looking over at him, you nod your head towards the snow, ushering him to join you in your winter escapades. “oh how much i missed the snow.. my father and i used to do this together, you know? he actually had time outside of the kingdom,” you watch as he hesitantly pushes snow towards you, a frown crossing your lips upon his weak movements.
“oh? i’m sorry, your majesty,” kuroo looks back up at you, unprepared for your hands to grab his as you stuff snow into his fist, helping him form a ball of his own.
“it’s fine, kuroo. and i’ve told you before, call me y/n, you won’t sound as stiff. now, you need to really pack this tight. you’re working on the mid-section and i can’t have him slumping over because you’re too worried about me,” pressing up against his side, you pile more snow into his hands, scooting away as he finally starts to form a proper ball, “there you go, see i knew you had it.”
kuroo glances up at you, smiling to himself as you’re working on the bottom third of the snowman, earmuffs and scarf keeping you as warm as possible. there’s a giddiness to your actions that has always kept kuroo warm, even if he doesn’t feel comfortable expressing those feelings. turning back to his own snow pile, he slowly rolls it around into a medium sized ball, nearly ready to add onto the snowman’s base.
“have you ever made a snowman before?” you look up from the snow, hands resting on your lap.
“i’ve never really had the chance to.”
your eyebrows furrow, hands grabbing the fabric of your cloak. “even as a child, you never got the joy of just playing in the snow? building something with your own two hands?” you shift towards him, hand itching to reach out and grab his own, to extend a comforting touch.
“to be truthful, your majesty, my mother got ill when i was younger, so i spent most winters assisting her with meals and keeping the house up. i did always enjoy the few chances i got to spend in the snow,” kuroo manages a short smile at the end, no matter how forced it may actually look.
finally reaching out, your hand wraps around his. as your expression softens, you rub your gloved thumb across the back of his hand. “i’m really sorry kuroo, every kid deserves some joy like that. at least now you’ll get to say you have, and if you ever want to again, let me know. you deserve some time off,” returning back to your own snow ball, you speak with a joking tone, “and it’s y/n. i might have to put you on horse duty if you keep it up with the ‘your majesty’ stuff.”
kuroo shifts in the snow, moving to sit back, metal clinging with every movement, “horse duty? you wouldn’t dare.”
his expression lacks any motion besides a raised eyebrow and tilted head. watching, you let out a short laugh, tossing a handful of snow at his chest plate. “no, i like you too much to send you away. it was dangerous for my father to assign you to my post,” you turn back to the snow, forming another smaller ball for the head of the snowman.
you can’t see it, but kuroo is again smiling widely to himself. he sets the mid-section onto the large ball you created, enjoying the time the two of you have spent together. standing up, he walks towards a nearby tree, grabbing a couple of sticks that had fallen to the ground. “you’ll like me even more now that i have arms for our snowman,” he stares as you look up at him, the wonder in your eyes only getting brighter.
“oh yes kuroo, this will work wonderfully,” grabbing the sticks from him, you shove them into the sides, following with a couple buttons you had stored in your pockets as the eyes and buttons.
standing back, kuroo rests his hands on his hips. biting the inside of his cheek, his eyebrows furrow. “something’s missing.”
“you’re right… wait, this is what he needs,” you begin to pull your scarf off, unwrapping it to wrap around the small snowman’s figure.
“your ma- y/n, you should keep your scarf on, it’s far too cold for you to be walking around without your scarf on,” kuroo shakes his head, the knight within him taking over as he looks over at you.
looking back at him, you stop before it’s finally unwrapped, looking up at the sky as you tap your chin. “fine, but only because you finally called me by my actual name. so keep it up and i might actually listen to you more,” you rest your hands on your hips, taking in a deep breath.
“and it should be rewrapped before you get ill..” kuroo steps towards you, taking both ends of the scarf before wrapping them around you, not breaking the intense eye contact that you’ve made more than once.
thinking about going to a holiday work party with kuroo for the first time. you almost bailed on it completely, but as soon as your favorite coworker heard the news, he was knocking down your office door and demanding you accompany him.
unable to refuse, you go. despite the nerves that chip away at you throughout the event, you manage to have a really good time thanks to the man beside you. he keeps you steady with his palm pressed against your lower back only to dizzy your head when he dips down to whisper more breathy praise in your ear.
you let him be your guide and start the conversations that you happily join in on, none the wiser to his truest antics — the mistletoe.
as soon as you’re both standing under the greenery, his smirk softens into a smile that you can’t help but melt at. he gently takes your cheek in the palm of his hand, brings you closer, and presses his lips against yours.
it’s a sweet kiss, one that doesn’t draw too much attention from any onlookers but there’s a heat behind it that makes your heart race. it’s over far too soon and when he pulls away, mischief swims in his hazel eyes.
“see why you had to come now?” kuroo’s thumb drags along your glossy bottom lip before he brings it to his own for a taste. “i would’ve looked like an idiot begging HR to let me hang this up. so, thanks for saving me.”
“you’re ridiculous.” you can’t help but grin, which he happily returns with a wink.
“and you’re beautiful.” he pulls you back in before you have time to call out his cheesy line, your mind taken over by the steamy kiss that melts you to your core.
maybe the holiday work party wasn’t so bad this year.

kuroo is a professional volleyball player in MSBY. one day he's hired to model for a sports campaign with victoria secret angel, y/n. a fault in the camera equipment buys kuroo and y/n some time to get to know each other.
#1 rain check
overstimulating lights flash and flicker, the camera men circle around you and your co-model, kuroo. you knew who he is, one of the MSBY volleyball players. so it was no surprise to you that your sports campaign photoshoot with Nike would be with him. you were, however, pleasantly surprised by how natural he was at modelling.
you're bombarded by instructions from the crew, lean into kuroo more, turn around, smile, laugh, squint your eyes. this was all part and parcel of your job. kuroo was much taller than you, but the height difference was perfect. he would sling his arm over your shoulders, a volleyball on his other arm and a tennis racket on yours.
natural. the camera man repeated, "so natural, practically intimate, give me more." vague comments like that would be repeated and you knew what they meant: look sexy.
"ah shit," the camera guy mumbled with a strong french accent. "wait, let's take 5."
kuroo let go of his arm around your shoulder and you relaxed your posture. a few crew members rushed to pass both of you a bottle of water.
"y/n, right?" kuroo asked, passing his bottle back to his handler. "it's nice to meet you." kuroo smiled, extending a hand toward you.
you reciprocated a smile and shook his hand, "and you're kuroo. ive heard many things about you."
kuroo raised his eyebrows at your comment, "really? good things, I hope."
"maybe. maybe not." you decidedly left your reply ambiguous, just to lighten the mood.
a smirk making its way onto his face, "should I be concerned that you're not telling me if you've heard bad things about me?"
a small chuckle escapes your lips and you felt your body ease up. the photoshoots were always so rushed, so you had little time to interact with the other models. it was refreshing being able to make light conversation with someone in between your busy schedule.
"hey guys, there's some technical difficulties, uh some of the cameras were damaged in the rain," the camera man walked up towards you two. "it was some intern– but anyway, we'd need to postpone the shoot until we can get the back-ups running. you're free to wait around."
in the background, someone (probably the intern) was being chewed out and berated by the Nike coordinator. you almost felt bad, but at the same time this had bought you some time to take a much needed breather.
"you're a victoria secret model right? angels?" kuroo spoke up and walked you over to near by seats to settle down.
"yeah, how do you know? you watch their shows?" you gave him a teasing look, "so what they say about you is true."
you watched as kuroo's face toggles between looking flabbergasted and flustered, "I don't watch their shows, I just heard- wait, what do people say about me?"
"I'm just messing with you."
the small amount of tension on kuroo seemed to disperse when you said that, "wow, I didn't know you did stand up comedy on the side." he joked.
although you and kuroo had just met, you felt oddly relaxed around him. you didn't think too much about it though, you were just glad you had someone to joke around with for a while.
the both of you sat there for a while, talking about random things. the conversation progressed so naturally.
"yeah, then there's atsumu? you know him? he's my setter." kuroo grinned and a sense of pride filled his chest when mentioning his teammate, "he's really good. but he's scandalous and causes a lot of issues for our management."
you had your elbows propped up on the arm rest of the folding chair, you leaned slightly toward kuroo and listened intently with a small smile. "yeah, I think I know him. there's some rumour that he's currently talking to one of the victoria secret models, alisa, you know her?"
"alisa haiba? yeah, we went to high school together." kuroo looked mildly shocked at the coincidence, "that's crazy. I need to ask him about this later."
"that's a wild coincidence, the world is so small."
kuroo had this wide grin on his face and his eyes glimmered with enthusiasm, he seemed to really enjoy talking about his volleyball team. "hey, if you're interested I have a match coming up soon. would you like to come? no pressure though."
a volleyball match wasn't exactly something you'd see yourself going to, your schedule was busy enough as it is and watching matches was never that high up in your priority list. but something about that sparkle in kuroo's eyes made it hard for you to say no.
"when is it?"
kuroo perked up slightly, "this weekend, Saturday. at the stadium. if you don't mind I could maybe get your number and ill let you know more details?"
you didn't have anything going on Saturday, so you agreed. you typed in your number into kuroo's phone and handed his phone back to him.
"that was an excuse to get your number, by the way."
you lightheartedly rolled your eyes at that.
the lively chatter was eventually broken up by the nike coordinator announcing to both of you that the shoot would be postponed to another date. "the backups equipment was taken by another shoot in the building, sorry guys." that's what she said.
alas, you bid farewell to the volleyballer as you both exited the building. you walked down the street feeling satisfied with yourself. you had made a new impromptu friend and secured your plans for Saturday.
