also i have pinpointed the exact moment when kubo settled on the final design for the shinigami's sandals: chapter 85, which is when ikkaku is introduced, and i like to imagine drawing his bare feet in sandals is what prompted kubo to go "wait, i have to actually come up with a consistend design for this shit, i can't just wing it everytime"
