Shepard’s high heels
Sometimes I think about how outspoken Garrus is with his superiors at C-Sec and how he normally isn't afraid to say what's on his mind or be insubordinate, and yet with Shepard he chooses his words with caution because he actually cares about what Shepard thinks of him. It's why he doesn't outright ask Shepard to help him take down Dr. Saleon and hopes that Shepard will volunteer to help, instead.
He does end up asking for help with Sidonis later on, but at this point he seems to feel that he and Shepard are close enough where he doesn't have to worry about impressing Shepard anymore.
But then when it comes to Femshep and his feelings for her, he keeps his mouth shut about them. He doesn't make the first move until he thinks that Shepard is showing enough interest in him to possibly have feelings for him, too. If she doesn't proposition him, he never tells her how he feels because he's too scared of ruining their friendship, not necessarily because he's moved on or whatever. He only agrees to sleep with her because he actually loves her; he's not looking for an interspecies fling (which is something he hadn't ever even considered up until he had such strong feelings for Shepard, an alien).
I just really love how these details come together. Garrus being all "I went up to my boss and told him that he's a bitch ass motherfucker and I hate him and his policies" to "Shepard I trust you and respect you wholeheartedly and I want to listen to your advice, I want to be the Robin to your Batman" is interesting.
Garrus: So Joker said you're something called "ticklish"? Is that a disease?
Femshep: ... Yes
Garrus: Well, he also said the cure was wriggling my fingers on your sides, so...
Femshep, swatting his hands away: Begone, demon! You touch me and you lose the hand
Garrus: But what about this ticklish thing?
Femshep: It is my solemn curse to bear
Femshep: Now I have a pilot to kill for his attempted crimes

I honestly think that like all of my issues with the plot structure of Inquisition can be summed up by this sign. It’s right next to a path up a hill at the Storm Coast, one surrounded by little boulders and rocks that have fallen. But at no point during gameplay does a rock fall.
Why bother putting this sign and the fallen rocks there if you’re not going to have a rock fall on the player?
Why include blatant character flaws in the companions that don’t serve much purpose beyond “rounding them out” by existing? Why have Dorian be focused on reforming all of Tevinter’s issues except slavery if it only comes up exactly one time in non-essential dialogue? That is a HUGE-ASS FLAW. Why give Sera such vitriolic self-hatred and internalized racism when oppressed elves are precisely the sort of ‘little people’ that she fights for? Why can the Inquisitor not talk about these things with them and help them realize that they need to change their thinking?? Can you IMAGINE the character arc Sera could have had???
Why can Clan Lavellan be killed if no one in Skyhold ever acknowledges it? The only possible purpose it could serve would be to provide emotional stakes for the odds the player is up against, but nothing emotional actually comes of it.
Why can you customize Skyhold if none of those changes make a difference? Why can you build up over 300 power at the War Table if it’s completely useless outside of main quests, of which there are ridiculously few?
Why have a storyline about Lyrium addiction among Templars if it’s never acknowledged that said addiction is entirely the Chantry’s fault? Why include Fiona in the game if all she ever does is stand in a hallway? For that matter, why make an entire game leading up to the mage rebellion if the ACTUAL BEGINNING of it is shunted off into a book that a lot of players won’t know exists and the rebellion itself is just going to be background noise in the next game?
Why are Alistair/Stroud/Loghain and Hawke in the game for literally about 1 hour (out of a solid 90, generally) if one of them has to die? The Inquisitor doesn’t know them. New players don’t know them. To have an actual emotional impact in-universe, they should be legitimately introduced into the story in a significant way. Instead they appear, die/leave for Weisshaupt, and disappear again. They do nothing; things happen to them.
There are so many signs for falling rocks, but no rocks actually fall.
During Citadel Wards: Ambush, Shepard gets comm banter with their love interest and their “best friend” (who is the unromanced squadmate that’s been taken on the most missions) while they’re fighting through the mercs by themselves. You can find the different love interests’ romanced comm banter easily, but the best friend banter is harder to come by. Once I had them all, I thought it’d be fun to compare how the characters’ reactions differ depending on their romanced status. (Not so surprising) spoiler: they’re a lot more frantic when romanced.
First up is Garrus! Best friend dialogue first, then romanced.

Garrus: So... does this mean we're dating?
Shepard: Yes, Garrus, it does :)
Garrus: Okay good because *takes out a super long list* I've been compiling all of the names for our children that I really like and I've also been jotting down good potential places for us to settle down in - warm places with lots of sun - and for our wedding I was thinking we could have it at the Citadel Tower where we met and
But imagine Cullen Rutherford finding out he’s going to be a father.
Cullen, who, if you had asked him a year ago, would have said he didn’t want children. Not because he doesn’t–Maker, does he–but because he can’t imagine any woman would want his children. Doesn’t think he deserves that happiness.
Cullen, who would be so afraid of hurting them or breaking them, because that’s what he’s been trained to do his entire life–to bash, and crush, and kill.
Cullen, who thinks himself too broken and filled with horrors to be around something so innocent. How could he comfort his child when they have nightmares, when he still wakes screaming?
But then the woman he loves tells him, cheeks flushed and eyes bright, that she’s with child, his child. And she’s so happy and excited that he feels himself become excited, and finds himself smiling at the prospect of teaching them–boy or girl–how to fight with sword and shield.
And a few months after that, when his love suddenly takes his hand during a war council meeting and puts it over her belly, so he can feel their baby kicking. He almost starts crying right then at the feeling. How could he have ever been afraid of hurting them? He realizes he would give his life for his child and their mother, who, he thinks, has never been so beautiful as now, when she’s full and ripe with life.
And then a few more months after that, she’s screaming and cursing like a sailor while old women try to keep him from their chambers. But who would dare stop the Commander of the Inquisition? He takes the steps three at a time and suddenly he’s there–holding her hand and kissing her brow. She’s still swearing, but the fear has gone out of her eyes.
Imagine Cullen holding his child for the first time while his love sleeps. Holding them and talking to them–not nonsense, but introducing himself and promising to keep them safe, no matter what.
I’m your father, Cullen. I’ll always be here to take care of you, my little one.

really love the relationship you write about Hawke and Leandra, makes that whole incident way more complex and interesting to think about if they didn't get along that well.
Thank you so much anon!
I have to admit, from the very first time I played the game and the words “this is your fault” came from Leandra towards her eldest child, she was soured to me. Every other interaction with her didn’t improve my opinion of her. To me, she reads like so many abusive parents: smiling and sweet on the outside, towards other people - but sour and cruel to their family. She’s probably the only character I’ll ever outright state I do not like.

in Scandinavia Elves (or Alver) are seen as a personification of natural essence. They can be found throughout the high mythology (Norse myths) and low mythology (folklore) of Scandinavia. In the Prose Edda, there are mentions of ljósálfar (light elves) who live in the sky and are fairer than the sun and døkkálfar (dark elves) who live beneath ground and are dark as night. There is also reference to svartálfar (black elves) in such a way that it is likely Snorri Sturluson uses this as a synonym for, as they are known elsewhere in the lore, dvergar (dwarfs) :>
