She has a point and it causes him to chuckle, but he says nothing after the fact. Just gives his head a nod with his lips pursed down to silence himself. But he can tell this woman isn’t angry just to be angry - that’d be old woman Smith down the way. No, something made this woman this way and he decided if he was going to turn some trust here it was best he not pry or say anything more. Just simply smile and hope that the kindness of a stranger was enough. Even if it wasn’t that’s her right. But he had to confess he’s certainly intrigued by her.

After all she is one hell of a lovely woman.

It did not matter that he kept his mouth shut for now. The stranger could be kind as much as he wanted, keep up the charming smile as he was doing. She's had it up to here with men. Even though she wasn‘t hiding her anger, it didn‘t mean she wanted to share it with him or even talk about it. What did he even think? But it didn‘t seem like he wanted to give up on accompanying her. Men. Gah. A barely overhearable pant escaped the woman as she then stopped abruptly, turning to face him with furrowed brows.      “Seriously? Dinnae ye hae anythin' better tae dae? If ye'r sae desperate tae git th' attention o' a woman, go tae th' brothel in toun, ah hear th' women there ur th' best.” she snarled with a barely visible smile. A smile that indicated anything but amusement.

She’s cautious - he doesn’t blame her. But he isn’t one to give up so easily. She says she doesn’t feel like talking and he nods. “That’s fine, I’ve not truly been blessed with the gift of gab.” He tells her, though as she goes to leave he steps one step toward her. “ At least let me keep you company, even if it’s quiet. You never know what you’ll find out here.” He then takes a step back. “I’ll even keep my distance from you and your horse.” He looks to it and smiles. “ I’m sure your fine creature will make sure I don’t try anything funny.”

No doubt her horse would not hesitate and it wouldn‘t be the first time. He could consider himself lucky, for the moment, that she was standing in between in order to prevent  Mary-Lou from kicking. Well, she couldn‘t care less, yet if he got knocked to ground it would be against her nature to leave him like that.                    “Fur a man wha claims nae tae be much o' talker, ye blether a lot ,” she counters, glancing at him only briefly before continuing on her way.

He stares at her as she’s looking at him. He can’t blame her for being a bit on edge by him finding her here - but at least in this moment his words were true , unlike most other times. “You’re out here alone looking like you may just faint-” he says sweetly, as charming as he can be. “ - Now one of a few things could happen if that’s the case. One, you eventually wake up with no harm havin’ come to you. The others, well, truth be told I’d rather not think about.” his hands were still up to show he means her no harm. 

But he does wonder what brought her all the way out here.

With good reason, she keeps her distance from him, despite his upturned hands. Even his friendly demeanor would not cause her to build trust. There is a reason why she was here, away from civilization, and why she seemed so pale. For a complete stranger, however, she certainly wouldn't pour out her heart. If she felt like talking, she wouldn't have come here. Alone she wants to be, alone with her tears like she‘s been the night before. Harm was already done, though not physically.      “Ah dinnae wantae be rude bit ah absolutely dinnae feel lik' talking,” she tells him as she grabbed the reins of her horse, swinging it over its head to lead it away from the water.

He had a habit of startling people -women especially. He was considering it a talent at this point. A smile came across his lips as she looked to him and kept close to her horse. 

“I’m not here to cause you any trouble, ma’am.” He lifts his hands to show he’s no threat to her at all, a smile to reinforce that. “ I just came out in these parts to clear my head - hadn’t thought I’d run into someone out here.” As this area and some others are good for getting out of sight and out of mind. But now it seems that she - like him - knew this and came out here for the same.

“ I’m just passin’ through and I saw you - “ he pointed over yonder. “ Couldn’t help but notice you looked a little pale…”

Strands of blonde hair fell to the side as she cocked her head, leaning even closer to her horse, brushing its mane, but her gaze remained fixed on the stranger. With the dangers lurking in the forest, no one really came here, but it seemed there were those who took advantage of this place. It was just perfect to escape from everything and anything. And for this very reason, she trusted this encounter rather less. Her expression was underlined with a certain harshness.       “Ah dinnae see why it wid be yer business, sir.” she spoke after a short silence.

He could be a comfort to her though to what end remained a mystery. With some things he couldn’t stand the idea of the unknown. In this situation he’d allow it. If she needed a friend, a shoulder, a drinking partner he could offer such a thing. The other types hadn’t crossed his mind in the moment. 

When she shifted he’d release his hold thinking she just had enough of him. The thought brought a flicker of a smile but it was quickly diminished in the moment. When she’s up on her tip toes and a kiss place on his lips. 

Eyes did not widen in surprise, but stayed neutral in the moment There was something about it that had his mind in conflict. One part said ‘stop her’, as she’s not in the right mind space for such affection. But the other part suggested that maybe this was the first step in her forgetting her troubles. 

Demir shifted on his feet, moving his arms around her in a tighter embrace and fell into the kiss

His calloused fingers would find her face , thumbs stroking away tear drops as he holds her into the kiss she’s allowing. He doesn’t push further - this is her move to make. What she wants he can give, he thinks. This was a bridge he hadn’t thought he’d find himself crossing, but now he stood at the first plank wondering if he should take any step further.

What she seemed to need at that very moment was nothing but closeness. The closeness to another man. A man who listened, even understood her. Without a doubt the scotch clouded her judgment, for such an approach was unlike her. A woman with temper she could be, even spontaneous, as some people would describe her. However, such an approach had little to do with spontaneity. She needed this, needed him. Now.        The positive reaction, that he didn't turn away, but gave himself into the kiss, caused her take the step further and there he needn‘t to wonder whether he should or not. 

Tears dry while his fingers caressed her cheeks, hers eventually wandered to his to pull him even closer. The tingling sensation seemed to relieve her of the suffering, of her thoughts of him. Oh no, she didn't want to wander back there. Rage turned to deep passion as lips parted to get more. More and more of the man she wanted to be close with.

Emotions were … complicated. It’s why Demir chose to keep them a little further than arm’s length. But seeing the pain that was inflicted on her caused some stirring within him. Reaching out he would take her shoulder and pull her in close to him. If she allows it, he’ll lay her head against his shoulder and she can let out all the tears and pain she wanted too. It’s the he can do, as the least the drink could do was shatter in the expression of her anger. 

“You can.” he reassures her. “and you will.” 

But his next words were a surprise, even to himself. “I’ll help you.”

Him bringing her closer, him holding her close, gave her a sense of security. All her tears flowed, soaking his jacket into which she pressed her face, pulling her arms up between them. In nothing could she find comfort before. Loneliness her only company worsened the whole condition. The despair of not knowing how to proceed when plans had suddenly changed and one was left heartbroken.            Her sobs came to an end. Eyes opened, tears still falling, as she leaned back to look at him. In those dark eyes of his, she seemed to find the comfort she craved, strangely enough it gave her as much reassurance he wasn't lying. That she could trust him. Perhaps it was that, or the surprise of his offer to help her rid herself of the pain. Or the alcohol had simply its part in this.           Yet, within a heartbeat she rose to her tiptoes and her lips then found his, delicately touching as her hands moved up his chest.

The shattering of glass had Demir jumping slightly but he seemed otherwise unmoved by her display of anger. He’d let her have it - it’s deserved, but in his mind not worth the energy. After all it’s not his heart that’s shattered by this situation. But a man - any man - who does a woman in the fashion her former companion did … there is a place in hell for them and if there isn’t he’d certain one could be made.

He gets to his feet an walks over, his hands gentle against her shoulder. “Carolyn, look at me.” He slowly turns her to face him. “ While he does not deserve a second thought from you, take this anger and waste it not. No throwing glass, no more tears.” His hands then move gentle to her cheeks. 

“Take this anger and use it, let it fuel you to make your dreams come true without him.” 

The shattered glass on the floor resembled her heart. It had something symbolic. Like being crushed on the ground. What had the relationship with this man done to her, these feelings? The plan, her dream, when she came from oversea, had been to find something she could call her own. To create something on her own. But then unexpectedly she lost her heart to a man so charming, so helpful, someone who could make her laugh. How naive must a woman be to rely on that?    Tear-filled eyes looked up at Demir, sobbing as her hands fell to her sides. Dejected. How right he was, she shouldn't waste her energy on this scum, yet... .         “That's whit ah want...but it still hurts 'n' it feels lik' ah cannae git awa' fae it.” her voice cracked. Not even the scotch could help her escape the pain.

He could feel it coming from her in unforgiving waves much like the oceans on the coast. For a man to take a heart like hers and break it - nay - shatter it into the pieces. She sees them as pieces , fractures that can’t be placed to fit. Maybe  that’s true as he’s had his heart in pieces with no desire to try and put them back right. Demir simply plays the role of a man with no heart. Cast as such by those who know nothing and it’s a part he plays with ease.  But, he is not unfeeling. He is not without some concept and idea of what it’s like to have a heart taken for granted.  “He doesn’t even deserve that from you, love.” he says as he glances to her. “Anything you give hi he’ll feed from. Your pain sates him, no doubt. Otherwise he wouldn’t have hurt you in the fashion he has , let alone at all. “ He deserves to not even be a footnote in your story. You deserve better.”

“Aye, damn right ah dae!” her eyes opened wide at that realization and reached for the Scott bottle. For all she had worked, long days in the mines to somehow earn pennies. Every drop of sweat, however small, she had given for both of them, for a better, more secure life. They had been a team. And what was the thanks in the end? He runs into the arms of the nearest woman. Without a word, without anything. Days of worry passed until she found him with a madam of a bordel.      It then came like a sudden explosion, instead of taking a sip, lips pulled back, showing her teeth as out came a guttural roar. Glass shattered, the contents of the scotch spilling on the floor as the bottle flew straight into a wall.

“ 𝚒𝚝 𝚠𝚊𝚜 𝚌𝚛𝚊𝚣𝚢. 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚋𝚞𝚕𝚕𝚎𝚝𝚜.” - 𝙹.𝙹.

No kidding. Carolyn was still more than alarmed, hands shaking even as they clung tightly to J.J.'s hips as they rode off at a rapid pace. Eyes squeezing shut, exhaling a few breaths in what was an attempt to rid herself of the panic that had spread through her. After everything she had already experienced since her arrival in America, she thought nothing could ruffle her anymore.      A reminder that life here was no walk in the park. Even a seemingly harmless ride to another town to run errands could be dangerous. Not only because of wild bears, wolves or cougars, but also brutal bandit gangs lurking on the routes between the cities. It was nothing new, but for some reason her insides were quivering. A feeling she was not unfamiliar with, however.     “Let me doon,” she said aloud, pulling at the fabric of his shirt to get him to stop, “Now!”

Hate. That was far too weak a word for what she was feeling. She wanted to tear everything apart, break everything around her, everything that reminded her of him. A man she thought loved her, a man she thought she could be together with for the rest of her life. After all they had been through together. It was difficult to build a life from nothing on a continent that was so foreign. She wanted to take the risks, take on the adventure. But now she stood there with nothing and a broken heart. “Hate wid be absolutely tae kind. Na… . Ah loathe him. Dae ye hear me!?” she screamed at him, even though he was not to blame, but it needed to be said. It was just too much. The opened Scott bottle didn't help it much. Even though she fought it so hard tears fell from her eyes, staggering as she stretched out an arm to steady herself at the table, staring at him. “Ah loathe heem as much as woman kin loathe a man lik' heem.”

The blonde woman sat in the grass, her feet dipped in the water of the river while her faithful companion Mary-Lou, a beautiful Buttermilk Buckskin Kentucky, grazed beside her. Here in this place she always found peace, hardly anyone came here, which was probably due to the fact that wolves lived behind her in the woods. She obviously did not care, because nowhere else she could be clear with her thoughts and emotions.          The soothing silence did not seem to last, however, as she suddenly heard a male voice behind her. The woman startled, Mary-Lou did the same. Torn from her thoughts, she turned her head and rose to her feet, almost slipping. She grabbed the reins, one hand touching her horse's head. “Ssshhh, tis a' guid, Mary. Calm doon.” she whispered before her gaze turned to the stranger, visibly unpleased, she told him. “Tis ever a guid idea tae ambush a woman 'n' her horse fae behind. Unless yi'll waant tae git kicked.”
