Star Force: A Guide to Rumplurians (Part one of... Um... Dunno...)

What are Rumplurians, I hear you ask?

Well, my uninitiated friend, this is a Rumplurian: ^

[NB: Yes, this is actually Rumpelstiltskin, I have not gone mad.]

Rumplurians are a fictional race of aliens found in a fictional TV show, Star Force, as mentioned in my rumbelle fic Friendships and Fandoms, an AU in which the various Once Upon A Time characters were the cast and crew of this fictional TV show. Gold played the Rumplurian chief medical officer, Dr Stiltskin, and Belle was his make-up artist (and also stood in as Stiltskin’s wife when the actress due to play her had to pull out).

Since some people have shown an interest in me doing a little more world-building for the Star Force universe (it’s become a fandom within a fandom, it’s kind of like Inception…), I decided that some world-building was indeed in order! 

Anyone is free to add to this post, and no doubt I will make some more posts when I think up more things in the Star Force universe. Star Force was a thing created by fans, for fans, and I like to think of it as an interactive experience, so any thoughts and headcanons are welcome. They don’t just have to be about Rumplurians! It’s just that Stiltskin and Lacey (basically the rumbelle of Star Force) captured everyone’s attention and I get the most asks about them.

Without further ado, let’s explore the Rumplurians’ religion.

Stiltskin sat bolt upright in bed, panting, and he looked around frantically before reassuring himself that his nightmare had been just that and that he was safe in his own home at Force Base, in his own bed, with Lacey sleeping soundly beside him, undisturbed for his own broken night. He sighed and rubbed his temples, almost as if he was trying to bore the horrible images out. He’d been dreaming about the wormhole again. He’d been doing that a lot ever since he had returned to solid ground since his stranding on the Aurora, and he could tell that it was beginning to take its toll on him. Sometimes he woke Lacey with his tossing and turning and shouting, and he was thankful that tonight was not one of those nights. He didn’t even know why he was still having bad dreams about it all. He hadn’t had any whilst he was actually out in space; mind you, the number of times he’d had to resort to depleting his stock of sedatives to actually get to sleep in the first place didn’t bear thinking about. He’d been officially grounded and there was no chance of him actually being flung into the next universe ever again. He had Lacey and Bae, and everything in his world should have been idyllic. Everything in his world was idyllic, apart from the constant nightmares.

Um, what's A Charm of Magpies about? (mod - I kind of want to write fic about this setting, so any rough grounding, even a season outline if you can swing it would be great)

(mod: wow, was not expecting that. I’m sort of embarrassed about the whole thing really - it started as a response to a conversation with @worryinglyinnocent that got out of hand, and I’m pretty sure I have now become the resident fandom weirdo.)

Glad you asked! A Charm of Magpies aired for seven series on the BBC, and it was fucking gold. Seriously, I loved every second of it. Also, you will find a few Star Force alumni in its background - I think Graham Hunter was the murder victim in one episode in series 3, and Fae Blue made an appearance as the Queen of the Fairies at one point too.

Ah, another fan of A Charm of Magpies! I don’t see a lot of those in my area, nice to see they still have such support. I have the utmost respect for Dame Minerva McGonagall and this series was a fascinating exploration of a magic-filled world.

What season was your favorite, Miss Raven?

I’m a season 2 girl at heart, Mr Disco Lizard. I loved the whole element of Richard getting to grips with this whole new world of possibilities, and the development of an almost parental bond with Cecilia. The fairy court plotline was also very engaging, and I liked how Richard dealt with the sudden change in his social position and the cruelty he faced because of his origins. And the reunion between him and Lizzie and the realisation that they are now, irrevocably, on opposite sides was heartbreaking.

Oh I very much agree. There’s nothing quiet like discovering a new world with a child’s eyes in regards to storytelling. Especially at the age Richard was at; that cusp between childlike wonder and the harsh reality threatening to overtake him. 

The Fairy Court was engaging, though I personally don’t have an affinity for fae. Perhaps I read too much about being abducted to serve Oberon if I misbehaved as a child.

At times I lament I don’t have a larger family, for that seems to be a theme in some of the better productions. The most compelling relationships to view on screen are of a familial relation, whether forged like with Richard and Cecilia, or blood like Lizzie and Dick. I admit, it was the reason I watched this show in the first place.

Watching the evolution of the twins was indeed heartbreaking, especially since Lizzie was the more ambitious of the two, and spent so long believing magic was the reason her brother was dead. It’s saddening to see family on opposite sides, especially to this extreme.

Yeah. You’ve got to wonder how that whole reunion scene must have looked from her perspective…ooh! I do believe I feel a fic coming on! But, yeah, that scene was perfection - both Potter and Granger just acted their hearts out through that whole sequence.

For me, the sort of eerie alien horror was half the fun of the Fairy Court - that sense that if you made the least slip you’d be bound to servitude for three hundred years or something, and the sheer tension of a scene which essentially consists of Richard and Miss Featherstone having a nice cup of tea with a being that could kill them both with a thought.

It’s sort of interesting that Lizzie didn’t start really getting into the anti-magic stuff until season 3, when she already knew Richard was alive and well. I’d really like to know what was going on in her head leading into all that.

It’s a wonder the two managed to survive. Then again, fae have rules and abide by they strictly. It’s one of their redeeming qualities in stories. You have to be clever enough to outwit them, and that’s something I always enjoy seeing. Intellectual prowess should be explored more in media.

I concur on being curious why it took so long, what was the tipping point if not her brother’s supposed death by magic? Choices and how they are made are very relevant to what makes up a character, so if you do indeed explore it in a fic, please do notify me. I’d very much like to read it.
