Hi all, sorry I've not posted in a while, there's a lot I've been focused on and working through in my life - I realise due to being inactive for a while, I've lost quite a few of you lovely followers, and whilst I don't blog for numbers, I worry that I've let people down - Regardless, I'm going to aim to log in more often, and will be creating a new blog with link to the changes in my life, if you'd be interested in the URL please let me know - peace all
Aukland Zoo Welcomes Red Panda Twins
Auckland Zoo in New Zealand is celebrating the birth of healthy Nepalese Red Panda twins, two very valuable additions to the international breeding program for this threatened species.
Learn about the twins at Zooborns.
Meet Lincoln, the Red Panda Cub
A rare Red Panda cub was born in July at Lincoln Childrenâs Zoo in Nebraska. Baby Lincoln, as zookeepers are calling him, is currently being hand-raised because his mother is unable to care for him. He is one of only four Red Panda cubs in the country being hand-raised. Like his older brothers, Rusty and Wayne, he will eventually move to another zoo, where he will be a valuable addition to coordinated breeding efforts to save the species.
Learn more about Lincoln on Zooborns.
Thereâs no such thing as having too many books.
The only challenge is having to find a place for all of them.

and then i work with the other kid who doesn't talk much and we get to know each other and find out we have similar interests and vow to talk more and then we start texting each other and it becomes the highlight of our days and every friday we go to see that genre of movie we both love and then one day after said movie we get caught in the rain and we can't catch a taxi so we end up having to run to a bus stop but it's raining really hard so they take a newspaper from the side of the street and drape it over our heads and it's shitty and not even working but we're laughing so hard we don't even care and when we finally get to the bus stop we are panting and laughing and wet and then they turn to me and smile and i smile and they take me by the cheeks and murmur some inside joke and we laugh and then we kiss and then eighty years later we're happily married with 2.8 children and all our dreams came true but oh fuck we forgot to hand in our group Science project didn't we
On a learning term, and I hope this is okay to ask aloud, why do people self harm? What are the causes of it? I wouldn't self harm myself, but I did play with a [sewing] needle the other day, where needles aren't my forte, and it did get me curious.
Hi love,
No problem! Well, thatâs the thing, there isnât any one reason why people self harm.
One big causes of self harm is addiction to self harm - someone starts for a particular reason or as a particular way of coping, and they get stuck with it. Itâs generally just a really, really bad and dysfunctional coping mechanism that can become addictive.
Some people self harm when theyâre angry. Others when theyâre sad. Or, dissociative, or self hating, or dysphoric, or stressed, or anxious, or having a panic attack. Some people self harm when theyâre in a psychotic or depressive or manic episode. Weâve even had asks from people who self harm whenever theyâre happy, which Iâd imagine is sometimes a form of self sabotage.Â
I think knowing what your self harm is triggered by is really big in helping to identify useful alternative coping mechanisms. Self harm is, generally speaking, a way of reducing another feeling. When dissociative it re-establishes your connection to your body. When dysphoric itâs a form of revenge, body hatred, anger and/or an expression of disgust. When angry, itâs way of channeling that anger into something else - generally yourself, so often goes along with self hatred. When sad, itâs a way of letting that sadness out. Self harm can alleviate and override some of the symtpoms of anxiety or panic. Some people self harm in order to âpunishâ themselves for mistakes theyâve made. Thereâs a lot of different reasons.
Iâd like to stress though, itâs never a good coping mechanism. There are always alternative outlets for emotions and feelings that are healthy and functional, of which self harm is neither.
Love and hope,Emily
