The one and only Bill Evans, regarded as one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time and one of the most influential in 1958 Bill Evans joined Miles Davis’s sextet and recorded along with him Kind of Blue, the best selling jazz album of all time. 

Evans will go on to form his own band and continue creating music up until his death on September 15, 1980.

Bill Evans passed away on Monday September 15th, 1980 at the age of 51.

"...the only thing I'm afraid of is death. When I was eighteen or nineteen I could have died. I was ready for death. Today, I'm not ready anymore. I've lost too much time as it is." (x)

He's almost like a folk poet, but he reaches heights of art because of his simplicity. The simple things, the essences, are the great things, but our way of expressing them can be incredibly complex. It's the same thing with technique in music. You try to express a simple emotion--love, excitement, sadness--and often your technique gets in the way. It becomes an end in itself when it should really be only the funnel through which your feelings and ideas are communicated. The great artist always gets right to the heart of the matter. His technique is so natural it's invisible or unhearable. I've always had a good facility, and that worries me. I hope it doesn't get in the way.
