What’s SUP beautiful people😎(see what I did there)
I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas filled with loads of love and laughter with family and friends🌲 2020 is around the corner and goals and resolutions for the upcoming year are buzzing around! When you decide on your goals for the upcoming year make sure that it’s for you, make sure that your goal is not some trend because trends come and go. Having small achievable goals is good to get you started and to help achieve the bigger goals!
Just remember that if you start today, you’re one step closer to achieving your goal. So stop waiting for the next day, the next week, the next month or even next year... start now🤩

Hello beautiful people🌻
I think it’s safe to say that my inconsistent blog and somewhat active social media accounts are slowly turning into more of a restaurant/food review account...
My sister and I aren’t the greatest combo... whenever we travel together we find ourselves in a restaurant of some sort 🙈(or a restaurant finds us)
I found myself munching away to the best breakfast I’ve had so far this holiday @briochefoodandcoffee ... I’m not a breakfast person and I wouldn’t choose to go out for breakfast BUT my oh my, Brioche blew me away!
The holiday breakfast is a real bang for your buck! I ordered the small and I thought I’d have space for their pancakes which looked SO GOOD but I struggled to finish the small🤭
From the hot chocolate to the ciabatta I was amazed🤤and whilst waiting for your meal, the restaurant doubles as a little shop with very interesting foods, drinks and cute items for your home🤩
The service is AMAZING and the waiters are SUPER friendly and give really good advice when you can’t figure out what meal you really want!
Brioche, you were a treat and I’ll be back again!

Summer lovin’ happen sooo fast!
Felt SO good to finally have some sunshine in this very confusing summer season🙃
We found ourselves in Mossel Bay for a day and I couldn’t help think of London as soon as I saw this food truck! It’s SO CUTE, the food is SO GOOD and the views from the top are AMAZING!
We enjoyed some calamari, fries and good company from the top of the ‘London Bus’ with an amazing view of the beach in Mossel Bay!

How to Handle Having TOO MUCH To Do
So let’s say you’re in the same boat I am (this is a running theme, have you noticed?) and you’ve just got, like, SO MUCH STUFF that HAS to get done YESTERDAY or you will DIE (or fail/get fired/mope). Everything needs to be done yesterday, you’re sick, and for whatever reason you are focusing on the least important stuff first. What to do!
Take a deep breath, because this is a boot camp in prioritization.
Make a 3 by 4 grid. Make it pretty big. The line above your top row goes like this: Due YESTERDAY - due TOMORROW - due LATER. Along the side, write: Takes 5 min - Takes 30 min - Takes hours - Takes DAYS.
Divide ALL your tasks into one of these squares, based on how much work you still have to do. A thank you note for a present you received two weeks ago? That takes 5 minutes and was due YESTERDAY. Put it in that square. A five page paper that’s due tomorrow? That takes an hour/hours, place it appropriately. Tomorrow’s speech you just need to rehearse? Half an hour, due TOMORROW. Do the same for ALL of your tasks
Your priority goes like this:
5 minutes due YESTERDAY
5 minutes due TOMORROW
Half-hour due YESTERDAY
Half-hour due TOMORROW
Hours due YESTERDAY
Hours due TOMORROW
5 minutes due LATER
Half-hour due LATER
Hours due LATER
DAYS due YESTERDAY
DAYS due TOMORROW
DAYS due LATER
At this point you just go down the list in each section. If something feels especially urgent, for whatever reason - a certain professor is hounding you, you’re especially worried about that speech, whatever - you can bump that up to the top of the entire list. However, going through the list like this is what I find most efficient.
Some people do like to save the 5 minute tasks for kind of a break between longer-running tasks. If that’s what you want to try, go for it! You’re the one studying here.
So that’s how to prioritize. Now, how to actually do shit? That’s where the 20/10 method comes in. It’s simple: do stuff like a stuff-doing FIEND for 20 minutes, then take a ten minute break and do whatever you want. Repeat ad infinitum. It’s how I’ve gotten through my to do list, concussed and everything.
You’ve got this. Get a drink and start - we can do our stuff together!
WOAH THIS SOUNDS HELPFUL. I’M GOING TO TRY THIS IMMEDIATELY. Also, I made a chart for myself, but if anyone else wants it for reference (or if this is wrong and I misread you can tell me) here it is:
Going to try this.
Can confirm that the “work for 20 minutes then break for 10” bit works super well, especially if the tasks you have to finish are boring as hell or particularly stressful. You can adjust how long you’re working for and how long your breaks are, but I’ve found that being able to tell myself “just get through 25 more minutes of this and then you can watch/read a few minutes of x thing you’re really excited over” gives me real incentive to work, even if working seems stressful.

2 Free Language Study Printable Packs
I’ve been meaning to make this pack for ages but as someone who hasn’t learnt a language in years I was unsure on what would be best - but thanks to your suggestions I’ve made this 16-page pack with lots of things that you can use (as featured in the image) and an additional 8-page pack with blank headers for your customisation.
Some pages are similar but hopefully will cater to most languages and study methods :-) You can delete and duplicate the files once downloaded if there are some you don’t need! All 16 pages come in the single file, and the 8 pages in another - it may take a moment to load the preview of all pages, but once downloaded they will all appear. You can download it from the link below:
Download link here (to both packs)
You can see other free printables here :-)
I hope you enjoy using and customising these printables! If you upload a photo featuring it, I’d love to see. Please tag me on Tumblr with #emmastudies or on Instagram with @emmastudiess. You can see other people using my printables by visiting the #esprintables tag on my blog! Please remember, these printables are for personal use only and should not be redistributed as your own.
If you want to find more organisational printable and support me, please check out my Etsy shop with lots of downloads dedicated to students. You can use ‘student10′ to get 10% off any purchase! :-)

Emma, I love you, you wonderful person!
this sounds like a Leslie Knope compliment heheh thank you!😆❤️ xxxx
After a few years of trial and error, I think I’ve finally found the perfect organization method.
In the early years of high school, I had a bullet journal. I was an artsy kid who found a way to combine art with organization in a way that benefited other parts of my life.
However, as I approached the end of high school, my schedule got busier, and I was involved in a lot more things, so owning a bullet journal was less practical. Because of that, I switched to an app called Edo Agenda.
I continued with digital planning in college since I knew I wasn’t going to have as much time. But all the apps I tried out—Taskade, Actions by Moleskine, Any.do, Todoist, Wunderlist—weren’t suited to my planning and organizational needs. They didn’t have the specific functions I required and didn’t incorporate an organization system I liked to use. The predefined apps were too restraining, but the more customizable apps weren’t customizable enough.
So then I switched to a bare bones, uber minimalist bullet journal method. That worked pretty well my second semester. It was simple, portable, and most importantly, flexible—all the things one could wish for in a planning system. However, it wasn’t always the most convenient to use since I couldn’t effectively integrate all the different aspects of my life, which, to no surprise, is mostly recorded digitally.
There was just one huge problem with my digital organization system that made me hesitant to switch back in the first place: everything was fragmented. Notes were in Google Docs. Financial records were in Google Sheets. To-Do Lists were in my bullet journal. Team projects were in Trello. My poetry was on Bear. Things I wanted to try are carelessly pinned to random pinterest boards or added to my YouTube “watch later” playlist. It was a mess.
Over the summer, I found out about Notion from a friend, and I thought, this has so much potential, it could even be exactly what I need. It’s essentially like an empty notebook on your computer with functions that make it 10x more powerful. Notion allows you to integrate all aspects of your life and work into one app. Some of the advantages that have made me partial to Notion are:
Even greater customization level. Notion is a blank canvas with tons of predefined blocks and different file types. You can make databases, spreadsheets, Kanban boards, to do lists, etc. Also, you can remain connected to other digital services. You can link websites, collaborate with other users, use different structures (e.g. documents, databases, tasks), embed images and videos, etc. There are also tons of formatting options, e.g. text color, highlight, heading v. body text.
Better organization. Notion allows you to have pages within pages within pages within pages—an infinite hierarchy that you can organize with tables of contents. These pages are made of blocks, e.g. tables, checklists, boards, databases. Both pages and blocks can be rearranged by simply dragging and dropping them to where you want them to be. In other words, I guess it’s kind of like building a website to organize your life. Plus, their database feature is especially powerful as it allows you to connect all your data and get into as much detail as you wish (each entry in a database is its own page).
Templates. There are tons of templates created by both Notion and the community that you can use. These are especially helpful in the beginning since Notion does have a rather steep learning curve. There aretemplate for almost every category: personal, planning, finance, job applications, design roadmap, etc. Check out their template gallery, this medium article called “10 Notion templates to inspire your use”, or read on for my own examples!
Shortcuts. This makes typing and documenting so much faster. Notion uses Markdown, which is a text-to-HTML conversion tool, e.g. # = Heading 1, *, - = bullet point, etc.
Notion has some pretty awesome features, but how does one actually use it? Personally, I have four top-level pages: my planner, my personal journal, songwriting, and blogging.
Planner
I’ve been using my planner to, well, plan and track my day to day activities as well as my week and month. The way I’ve structured it is a calendar or monthly overview with links to pages of weekly overviews, and if needed, daily overviews within the weekly overview. This links things up so nicely, i.e. I don’t have to be constantly flipping pages in my physical bullet journal or planner to find what I need.
I also have entertainment lists, which is mainly a table with all the shows I want to watch, the books I want to read, etc. I keep track of whether or not I’ve watched them, as well as my personal ratings. What I love most about this is that each entry is its own page, so I can type my notes for each book, show, or film and easily find them in the future. (Also the reason why I have plural “lists” instead of just one entertainment list is because you can filter entries by type of entertainment, e.g. movies, tv shows, books, articles.)
Personal
For personal notes, goals, journal entries, etc. This is kind of like an extension of my daily journal and just where I dump all my thoughts and keep track of the different aspects of my life: mental, emotional, spiritual, social, physical, and travel.
Another page I have is called “Stray Thoughts” and, well, it’s pretty self explanatory. It’s a lot easier to dump all my thoughts as they come and reorganize them later. Of course, this requires sacrificing the rawness of journaling, i.e. when the thoughts come and how you process them, which is why I still keep a regular journal that I write in daily.
Songwriting
I’ve been writing a lot of music over the summer and it’s often hard to keep track of all of my songs and how far I’ve gotten in the songwriting process. So I created a table of songs - each entry of a song is a page with its lyrics. These are then tagged with the status of the lyrics (i.e. completed, in progress) and the status of the music itself (i.e. melody only, instrumental, mixing, mastering, revised). Eventually, I’ll include demos in the database by embedding audio files in the document.
I have a separate section for inspiration and ideas, which is a kind of brain dump, e.g. words I think would make a good song, a certain theme for a song, a melody that’s been stuck in my head, a vibe I’d like to try out, etc.
I’ve also been watching a lot of tutorials for music production and there’s a section where I write my notes for that.
Eintsein
The last section of my Notion app is for this blog. Which has pages for
New posts. These are ideas for future posts, asks that I think would need longer answers, as well as posts that are currently in the draft stage (like this one was before I posted it)
Design assets. This is where I put all the visual branding material for Eintsein.com to be used in posts and any visual material on the blog.
FAQ. Having an FAQ document just makes it so much easier to make changes to your existing FAQ. Plus, if you ever change your FAQ theme, you just have to copy and paste what you already have.
Post directory. I keep track of all my previous masterposts, infographics, and generally longer and more comprehensive posts. It’s the exact same as what you see on my Navigation page. And yes, the document contains direct links to the post.
New theme. A project I’ve been working on the past couple days is trying to create my own theme for my blog. This is where I put all my outlines, brainstorming notes, design inspiration, code snippets, etc. There are some pretty awesome features I’ve made use of in this page:
As you can probably tell, I’m absolutely obsessed with Notion since it has such awesome features and endless possibilities for customization. So far I’ve been using Notion for personal projects, which, since they are quite big in scale and have no set deadline, are important to organize well. My summer courses were only 6 weeks and weren’t difficult to organize.
The formats above are just how I personally use notion. You could make some of your own, or if you don’t think you want to build your pages from scratch, there are tons of templates to choose from. Here are some I think I’ll be using in the near future and may be helpful for others as well, especially students like myself:
One drawback, however, is that Notion has a rather steep learning curve, but there are tons of tutorials online (especially YouTube) and I guarantee you it’s all worth it.
Notion is not just a productivity app. It’s a way to concretize your entire life.
Notion is free to use, but there are higher tiers that allow for more blocks, greater file size, etc. I use a personal account, which is $4 per month with unlimited block storage and no file upload limit (although I got it for $33/year). Personally I think the free plan would suit most people’s needs, especially if you’re not uploading large files.
update: it’s free for students!

Brutally Honest Rules for Language Learners
If you can`t make your own examples to a grammar rule, you don`t know this grammar rule.
Learning words without context is almost useless. You may repeat something like “road” or “deeply” millions of times and still forgetting them in the most important situations. Memorize phrases instead. e. g. “I crossed the road” and “to be deeply ashamed”.
Prioritize. There are almost 500 000 words in the English language and even more in some non-European languages. If you decide to learn 5 words a day, you`ll need a shitload of time to cover at least the third of the whole vocabulary. So, know precisely what words are the most frequent and the most important for you personally.
No, you won`t learn a language by listening to songs ONLY.
If your level of knowledge is Intermediate or higher, you don`t need the fucking subtitles. Well, in the beginning, you will have a terrible headache and doubts about the whole thing, but every video will be making you a little better. You`ll slowly get used to the accents and intonation. It`ll stop to sound like the endless phrase without any pauses. Just give yourself some time.
Translation from the native language to the target language is useless (if you`re not going to become an interpreter). Write the short texts in your target language instead.
Forget about boring topics from the textbooks. Argue with somebody in the comment section under your fav YouTube videos. Try to persuade me that the Earth is flat (I know it`s insane, but you`ll remember it much better than writing the essay “The current problems of ecology”). Rewrite your own posts. Write down 15 phrases do describe Donald Trump. I mean… Everything is better than a standard way of learning that doesn`t express your inner self.
Check the pronunciation of ALL the words. ALL the time. Your intuition is a great tool. However, it doesn`t cure all the irregular cases. Just look at English words “daughter” and “laughter”, “head” and “heat”, “though” and “thought”. They look almost similar but they sound in ABSOLUTELY different ways. There`s a possibility that your target language also has a lot of such cases. Just spend few seconds on looking at the transcriptions. It doesn`t hurt, I promise.
The post/challenge for those who want to find a language partner.
Redefining My Bullet Journal System
The bullet journal is probably something you’re no stranger to. It’s been circulating around the internet for a while, and it’s one of the main subjects of studyblr posts. However, when I started college last semester, I found that I no longer relied on my bullet journal to organize my tasks and structure my responsibilities anymore. Instead, I tried out a bunch of productivity/task-organization apps: Taskade, Actions by Moleskine, Any.do, Todoist, Wunderlist. None of them seemed to have what I needed, so I decided to give the bullet journal method another try.
The first thing I reflected on was why I stopped in the first place. At first I thought it was because the method itself allowed for a lot of freedom and I’d get confused as to what things to include and how to structure everything. But then I realized that it was in fact because I had previously been bullet journaling for other people instead of myself. Since I had what one could call an ‘artsy bullet journal’, I tended to focus more on the artistic aspect so that it would get more likes and reblogs after I posted it, when I should have been focusing on how it can organize my life. I realized that the bullet journal is a tool; the focus should be on life itself, not the bullet journal, but you can use the bullet journal to add value to your life.
At the beginning of the year, I deconstructed my organizational needs and attempted to apply that to my bullet journal method. I stopped looking at other people’s bullet journals and started thinking about my own needs and preferences. I thought about how I would best organize my time so that I could accomplish all of the things I want to accomplish in the different aspects of my life.
Supplies
The fact that I only have 2 main supplies allows me to bullet journal anywhere, anytime.
The Structure
The Practice
Simply having the tool to organize your life isn’t enough - you should also have a practice, a habit, for using it.
Going Forward
One thing I’d like to work on is future logging. As of now, I think in terms of months, since the my main commitment at the moment is my education, and monthly planning has worked out for me. But I think if I’d like to tackle on larger projects - e.g. my YouTube channel that I just started - I’d need to do a lot more future logging.
Another useful thing I want to try out is to summarize my journal entries in the form of notes. Recently I’ve been audio journaling (15-20 minutes of me talking to myself), and it’s been pretty effective. However, I have no way of ‘skimming’ the entries like I would a written journal entry. Summarizing them would help me retain main ideas of each entry and remember the things I said that are or could potentially be important and useful.
Final Thoughts
If you don’t think your bullet journal is adding value to or improving productivity and organization in your life, I think you should reconsider the way you’re approaching the system. I found a method that works for me; yours might be different. While it can be beneficial to draw inspiration from other people, do whatever helps you the most, not what other people tell you you should be doing. After coming up with an appropriate structure, make sure you maintain the practice.
Could I just say something real quick?
It’s all coming. Whatever you’re starving for, whatever that ache is that stings your bones, it’s coming. The love, the happiness, the adventures, and the creativity that you are seeking, it is all coming for you. Here’s the thing, don’t let your right now get away. The things you find mundane, keep them. Store them in the pocket of your favorite coat like found pennies. They aren’t futile. Do not let them cause you to feel empty and hollow. They are going to be worthwhile. Keep the hunger for what is coming, but please, keep a tight grip on these little ordinary moments that are happening right now, because they – these tiny pieces of this ordinary affair you find yourself in – are the foundation to your extraordinary. And I promise you, if you begin to recognize your right now, you’ll see your extraordinary coming.
things you will experience if you keep doing your best
actually looking forward to things and having enough energy to do everything you want to do
the fresh feeling after cleaning everything and throwing away things that were piling up since forever, including mentally
realising that you haven’t thought about someone for three days straight when you’ve been sad about them for a long time
making a new friend who genuinely likes talking to you after feeling like you don’t belong anywhere or you’re better off alone
making more time for people that really matter to you and actually love you unconditionally instead of endlessly wondering why some people left you or didn’t reciprocate
not placing your entire sense of worth on someone else because you feel happy and whole by yourself
an outward change in appearance, almost a kind of glow because you’re radiating warmth and strength from inside
good grades, making huge improvements and achieving whatever goals you have in mind
feeling calmer and not relying on external validation because you see your own worth, trust yourself fully and can accept imperfection, laugh at your own embarrassing moments, encourage yourself when you’re down and quickly forgive your own mistakes
gaining enough respect for yourself to treat yourself gently and not tolerating anyone who treats you badly
realising that you feel lighter inside and nothing is as much as a chore as it used to be
feeling yourself become less unaffected by small things that used to ruin your day
realising that you can make any changes in your life if you stopped discouraging yourself so much
realising you don’t need many superficial distractions anymore because you actually feel okay
the new school year is just around the corner, and as a newly graduated student i am here to offer you my tips and advice based on my experience last year.
1. start your college applications as soon as you can. the earlier you get them done, the less you have to worry about them. if possible, have a teacher look over your essays and help you edit them.
2. senioritis is a very real thing, so try not to slack off. treat this year like any other school year. do your homework and study. remember that colleges can withdraw an offer of admission.
3. cherish your close friends and those around you. these are some of the last times that you will all be together in one place.
4. (this is kind of a continuation of number three) participate in school events. go watch school sports and go to homecoming and prom. i know some people think these kind of events are lame, but when you’re with the right people they are so much fun!
5. if you end up going to prom and/or homecoming bring a pair of fuzzy socks, especially if you decide to wear heels (trust me this will save your life). if you’re anything like me, your feet will start aching 30 minutes after you put on heels and you’ll want to take them off asap. thankfully, fuzzy socks are the epitome of comfortable. change into them once you get to the dance.
6. don’t be scared to talk to your teachers. they know you’re busy with college applications, so they’re usually very understanding. don’t hesitate to ask for extensions on assignments
7. visit as many colleges as you can. there’s no point in applying to a college you don’t “vibe with.” the atmosphere will help you decide whether or not you can see yourself there for the next four years. i visited many colleges, yet when i first visited the university i’m attending this fall i immediately knew i belonged there.
8. have at least one safety school and one reach school. each year colleges are looking for different things, you never know what might happen.
9. when applying for colleges remember that your SAT score does not define you. it’s easy to put yourself down if you didn’t get the score you wanted, but trust me it’s going to be okay :)
10. enjoy quality time with your family (especially the summer before college). i haven’t even left for college and i already miss my family. spend as much time with them as you can, you probably won’t be seeing them often in college.
11. EAT BREAKFAST. i had to drive 35 minutes everyday to get to my magnet school and i would usually wake up 50 minutes before school started. my biggest regret is not eating a proper breakfast everyday. a good breakfast gives you energy so you won’t be as tired during the school day.
12. get enough sleep and stay hydrated! please, please, please! this is the best thing you can do for yourself.
13. be nice to the underclassmen and offer them advice.
14. it’s okay to cry. during the year, at graduation, after graduation, it’s okay.
15. have fun! it’s your last year of high school, enjoy it!
if anyone has questions about senior year and/or the college application process or needs any sort of advice, remember that my inbox is always open and i will always give advice.
