Ludwig/Germany

All right, so you all know how Germany is the only one of the main characters in Hetalia to receive only a first name and not a last name? Himaruya stated that this was on purpose and that fans would eventually figure it out.

Maybe someone has already figured it out and said something, idk, but I realized this connection might not be easy to make for English or Latin-language speakers.

I’m pretty convinced that Himaruya named Germany “Ludwig” as a reference to the king, “Ludwig the German”. That was seriously his name. So, Germany doesn’t need a last name, ‘cause he’s already Ludwig - Germany, or the German. And I realized that the historical figure Ludwig the German isn’t called that in English. English-speakers call him by the name “Louis the German”, so it might not be obvious.

SO. Now you might be wondering who this Ludwig the German was. WELL, the whole reason he got his name was because he was the first king of Magna Germania - Great Germany. OR (as we might know it) The Holy Roman Empire.
