8/19 Coming soon: (I'm too tired to write it out tonight..) The mental shift that occurred whilst walking on a treadmill at the gym... More to come, when I wake up and have got some spare time.

There’s going to be a time where you are lost as to what God is doing. It doesn’t make any sense, you’re not going to be able to see it well, and it’s going to hurt.

WHEN SOMEONE ASKS 'SO WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU EAT GLUTEN?'.... AT THE DINNER TABLE
Someone once asked, “If you could take it all back, would you?” At the time I didn’t know. Now I do. I wouldn’t take that terrible experience back for anything in the world. Too much light has come out of my darkness.

Rock of Ages, cleft for me; Let me hide myself in Thee.
8/16 Sabbath. Pulled over to watch the thunderstorm roll in. Reclined in the driver's seat playing worship music as loud as can be. "Your love never fails, it never gives up, it never runs out on me." One of the authors of these lyrics, Christa Black Gifford, also said, "If you are not anchored in the goodness of God, you will lower your theology to match your pain." I'm begging God to be my anchor, not just on the brightest days, for that isn't all too hard. We may not even need to be anchored then. But in the darkest night, in the middle of the swirling storm, in the hopeless situations, that's when we need to be anchored in the goodness of God. Then we must know that it is from His divine mercy and love that the storm rages on. The pain and despair comes not from His hand, but He knows His hand will provide the healing and life in the wake of the pain and despair. He will not allow destruction without creating something new. And that is what it is to be anchored in the goodness of God. In the words of A. W. Tozer... "When I understand that everything happening to me is to make me more Christlike, it resolves a great deal of anxiety." So I make my anchor in the goodness of God. Then I will understand that all of the above is not from His hand, but in all of the above, His hand will make me more like Christ. Knowing this, my anxiety will disappear, and I will know that my Abba is for me and not against me. How I long for the day when I realize this in full, not just as a faded reflection in the mirror. Abba, anchor me in Your goodness.
Everybody prays whether he thinks of it as praying or not. The odd silence you fall into when something very beautiful is happening or something very good or very bad. The ah-h -h-h! that sometimes floats up out of you as out of a Fourth of July crowd when the sky-rocket bursts over the water. The stammer of pain at somebody else’s pain. The stammer of joy at somebody else’s joy . Whatever words or sounds you use for sighing with over your own life. These are all prayers in their way. These are all spoken not just to yourself but to something even more familiar than yourself and even more strange than the world.
According to Jesus, by far the most important thing about praying is to keep at it. The images he uses to explain this are all rather comic, as though he thought it was rather comic to have to explain it at all. He says God is like a friend you go to borrow bread from at midnight. The friend tells you in effect to drop dead, but you go on knocking anyway until finally he gives you what you want so he can go back to bed again (Luke 11: 5– 8). Or God is like a crooked judge who refuses to hear the case of a certain poor widow, presumably because he knows there’s nothing much in it for him. But she keeps on hounding him until finally he hears her case just to get her out of his hair (Luke 18: 1– 8). Even a stinker, Jesus says, won’t give his own child a black eye when he asks for peanut butter and jelly, so how all the more will God when his children…( Matthew 7: 9– 11).
Be importunate, Jesus says— not, one assumes, because you have to beat a path to God’s door before he’ll open it, but because until you beat the path maybe there’s no way of getting to your door . “Ravish my heart,” John Donne wrote. But God will not usually ravish. He will only court.
Frederick Buechner, Listening to Your Life
I was always attracted not by some quantifiable, external beauty, but by something deep down, something absolute. Just as some people have a secret love for rainstorms, earthquakes, or blackouts, I liked that certain undefinable something.

Saiga is a type of antelope. They are known for their huge, inflatable, and humped nose which help them to filter out airborne dust during the dry summer migrations, and filter out cold air before it reaches their lungs during winter. They are a migratory species, migrating in the summer and winter and can run up to 80 miles per hour in a short time.
Local people kill saiga because of its meat and horns. Horns are used in traditional Chinese medicine. Saiga is listed as critically endangered species and were once in the millions but today only less than 50,000 left in the wild.
“and can run up to 80 miles per hour in a short time.”
What? I don’t think so. WTF does that even mean?
One site says >70mph (113kph) while another says 80kph (50mph) for the saiga’s speed capabilities. The latter also mentions the animal being second fastest land animal to the cheetah 70-75mph (112-120kph), so either could feasibly be true. But maybe the more conservative should win: 80kph…?
Repentance is not just a one-time turn around, but a thousand small daily deaths to yourself. It’s living for the one whom you were saved by to do what you were made for. It’s not merely saying no to something, but saying yes to the best thing.
J.S. (via jspark3000)
Jesus was more brokenhearted, scarred and betrayed than anyone in history. Yet, He did not shut Himself off from us; Instead, He calls us unto Him. If you cannot trust anyone, right now, please trust Him. His scars are proof that you are loved more than you know. He will guide you through this pain, He will sit with you when you are weak, and He will carry you until you can walk again. Christ wants to see you run again, He wants to see you live in His glory. You just have to take His hand and walk; it will take all of you, but you will get all of Him. He is worth it.

When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret. Now that I am 50 I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness.
C.S. Lewis (via nonelikejesus)
He must have a purpose NOW, in this, through this, for His glory. And He's not obligated to reveal that purpose to me. And as Job said at the end of His suffering - "My ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you." For me, I'm tired of hearing ABOUT God. I just want to see and know (intimately) the God who created me, who loves me, and who isn't finished with me yet. And this suffering is stripping me of any unbelief left in the secret recesses of my heart.
