I don't know if anyone here is still curious about my collection, but I have been taking more pictures since I opened an Insta account!

I started with some Beanie Babies. I had always been OBSESSED with the story of the Beanie Baby bubble, but then I found out they were:

actually very cute, in a nostalgic, retro way

cheap and abundant (see 'Beanie Baby bubble')

and well, now there is an undetermined amount of them at home.

Intention doesn't always matter in the face of reception! Even if Frankie's SS hat is supposed to be retro goth/biker or whatever, within actual goth communities I have shown the pics and gotten a resounding oh no thats nazi shit from *actual* goths where we gotta be on guard and actually keep an eye out for dogwhistles and symbol usage to keep that shit outta our communities. Regardless of the mattel designers intent its super poor taste and Frankie would get side eyed at minimum if they walked into a goth space wearing that. Like yeah I go to industrial goth shows and you do see hats like that because a big part of the industrial subculture is reclamation of military aesthetics but the community is also anti fascist and has to be on guard against infiltration from fascists so yeah you'd see a hat like that at a show, but the second its paired with lightning bolts you're gonna get thrown out or decked. Its yet another example of mattel not knowing anything about the communities they're appropriating from for designs

Translation for people new to the issue: Frankie’s hat on her Innovation Series doll is reminiscent of Nazi imagery (because of shape + lightning bolts).

I suggest NOT buying unless Mattel wises up an changes it before production/release.

With fascism going on the rise everywhere, we need to hold all the lines.

Dog whistles are not to be ignored if this was intentional.

Ignorance is not an excuse to hand-wave the problem away if this was an accident.

Mattel needs to chill with the cool Draculauras. I want each and every Drac doll announced so far, staaaaahp.

In my first run with Monster High (G1), I bought most of them either second hand (most of them loose and in random clothes in those second hand street markets... what is the English word for that) or extremely discounted in shops years after release.

This time (G3) I get to experience the anticipation of release anouncements, but on the other hand, ouch those prices. I am on a budget now like a responsible adult, Mattel take it easy!
