There's something really wrong in this country if you're going to convict a black, gay person of color for bringing to light the racial injustices that are being perpetrated every day.
It saddens me immensely that white supremacy wins yet again! So what if he staged it? He was bringing to the nation's attention the fact that this actually does happen every single day to BIPOC!
Instead of treating him as an individual forced to take "personal accountability", realize that he is an idea - a representation of the hatred people like Jussie have to face day in and day out. His actions were noble. He was playing 4d chess to shed light on it and now he's the sacrificial lamb being sent to slaughter by our corrupt "Justice" system. It doesn't help that the judge hated Jussie for who he is so much that he violently lunged at him in a bid to attack him in white supremacist anger because Jussie dared to bravely stand up to the man.
I believe BLM summarized it the best. Here is their opinion on the verdict:
"It's not about a trial or a verdict decided in a white supremacist charade, it's about how we treat our community when corrupt systems are working to devalue their lives. I'm an abolitionist society, this trial would not be taking place, and our communities would not have to fight and suffer to prove our worth. Instead, we find ourselves once again being forced to put our lives and our value in the hands of judges and juries operating in a system that is designed to oppress us, while continuing to face a corrupt and violent police department who has proven time and again to have no respect for our lives."
Well said! We don't need a "Justice System," we need a "Jussie System!" 👏
