Part One
"Oh, your way with words." She teasingly swooned with a sigh before giving a small snort of laughter. "Listen, Master, I'm not the child here." She said, clearly amused. "Would a child think as I do?" She raised an eyebrow as she glanced to him. "Sneak into the prime minister's office, bring a gun out, ditch school? No, didn't think so, thank you." She kicked her legs forwards then so she was up onto her feet once more, letting out a tired sigh. "Must you address me as 'child' to make yourself feel so much better? Geez, might as well change your name to the Joker, seems like you're just full of those now hm?" A smile was visible easily then as she came over to his desk, putting a hand on the end of his desk at where she stood, leaning against it. "Sweetheart," She started, as if talking to a misbehaving child, which at this point was how she saw him now. "I can kill him instantly. That's no fun, like you said, of course. One thing you're right about, I'll let ya have that point. I'm here to help you as well, satisfy your needs," she mocked his tone of voice from before playfully, "We share this interest. This interest can help the both of us in everything if you think 'bout it, hm? You're pretending to be some silly human, living a boring life here, yada yada, and I'm getting really tired of school. Not only can we accomplish taking the Doctor's life, but we can both take over together. Anything. Get whatever we want. Do whatever we want. I believe it's more than killing him--but that's the main thing, of course, without a doubt." She thought it over in her head as she spoke and she could see it. With their minds together, they could do much more than what they were doing now really. "How's that for putting it into words?" She repeated his question, tilting her head slightly as she watched him from where she leaned against the desk.
"Fine," He broke off her words right as she ended, not even taking the time to think about what he needed to say so that his next words were genuine, "You be the child, I'll be the Master." He spoke without pause, taking a seat at his desk as he found formidable to most though not at this point, he had hoped to have a bit more of a formal engagement about the matter at hand, especially when it concerned the Doctor, however, he has realized that would not be possible with a girl such as this. "You've got one immutable mind my dear, one you shouldn't take for granted for it may drive another to the end of their patience." He advised on a side note, though he was rather fond of this attribute of hers, "Such spirit." He shook his head lightly, now staring idly at the corner of his desk as he spoke, "Though I must counterâ Yes, indeed, I have tried many a time before, back when we were young and foolish. Those were the days," He spoke at an eased tone, reminiscing on his past for this short moment before moving on, "Now, it's better to take on a perspective viewpointâ you see, I once had your eager ambition to accomplish anything and everything I set my mind to andâshow off." He shrugged gently bringing his gaze back to the girl in question, "Now," He repeated, "I've grown fond of elaborate schemes, adds a bit more flavor to the twist of things, yes, I left the Doctor at Utopia, should you know about thatâ I could have killed him right there, but it would have been too easy, no fun. And here I am." He opened the palm of his hands to the ceiling as he rested his elbows on his desk, "The fun is in the journey, not the accomplishment child, though you may not be able to see it now I intend to guide you and your ambition so that you may satisfy your needs and wants and we'll both have what we aim for, the Doctor's life. How's that for putting it into words?"
Melody watched him for a moment, letting out a dramatic sigh. "Yes, yes, his image, sure, just.. him." She said the word coldly, turning from the Master to let on her own small stroll. The one thing she always figured when speaking to someone like him, was to not meet his eyes. He was far too formal, unlike herself, and knew it'd frustrate at least someone who acted like him. She swung one foot in front of the other slowly. "Silence isn't really my thing, as you see. Hearing the words spoken are more like it, if you ask me." She scoffed lightly at the thought of just leaving it there, by silence. Course not, that was daft. It was more official when spoken really, and gave her the pleasure of actually hearing it. She glanced down at herself for a moment, sneering at the uniform she had to wear but averted her gaze to the walls as she crept along. The more she thought, the more she realized she'd actually enjoy the Master. Already she was having fun with him, amused even. She came around to the seat she'd sat at before, lingering behind it as her eyes moved up from the tea that was never touched back up to the Master, her expression bored almost. A small smirk played upon her lips still as before, watching him as she let herself fall back into the chair quite lazily, as if there was nothing better to do and swung her legs over one of the arm rest. "You want the Doctor 'dead', if you can do that." She used her fingers to do air quotes, leaning back against the other arm rest. "And I want the Doctor dead. Guaranteed to achieve that, mind you." She stretched back once more, letting her hands fall back but came to the back of her head, her fingers lacing together firmly as if just casually relaxing at home. "You've tried, obviously already, and need a bit of help, don'tcha think? I believe we can both do something to help each other." She turned her head towards him. "You know what they say, apparently: Help me, help you." She raised her eyebrows at him.
He let his head sink down till the tip of his chin laid over his chest as he looked past the floor in a callous gaze, he could almost hear himself in this child, her motives and cue for passion nearly matching his own, a factor he found incredible. Once he noted that she was back into an orderly position and had recovered from the minor shock of the shot he lifted his head to face her, his chin now slightly raised with an air of authority that he knew he had, complete confidence. "So young, yet you claim again and again to know him." He mused, sauntering through his office toward the window as if it were a stroll in the park, the easiest thing in the world, "You are a killjoy as these apes would say, kill the Doctor?" He frowned as if it were the most ridiculous notion in the entire cosmos, "No no no," he began as a teacher would, "You don't need to kill the Doctor, just his image and heart. He's became an icon in the universe, a beacon of hope, and you want to kill him? That would only dub him a martyr on their list. Died for the good of the universeâ" By this point, the Master had reached his desk again, back from his little stroll to the window, "No, people have to know the truth," He emphasized his words by pressing his finger on the desk while looking at this girl, trying to read her all the while, evident by the look in his eyes, though got on with point, "Though I do appreciate someone such as yourself, capable of thinking in the least compared to theâ others." He smiled pleasantly, wrinkles at the corner of his narrowed eyes, always calculating eyes. "Do I have to voice the thoughts correlating between us or shall I allow the silence to consume our mutual agreement?"
She let out a yell of shock as she felt the sting, dropping the gun onto his desk. Her eyes widened for a moment and took a breath, letting her hand drop down and hold it with her other hand. âI only assumed, as you would have.â She spoke, her voice tight. She stopped talking though, straightening herself up and letting her arms fold across her chest once more, maintaining a posture that wouldnât show weakness. She wanted to stay cool now. Her face changed, going back to it was before heâd shot her hand with the laser screwdriver. Such a childâs toy it looked like, certainly didnât act as one, she figure out only moments ago. âOf course, I know all about how to get the Doctor. Course, I see him quite often now.â She sighed, as if bored. She tilted her head up slightly, peering at him. âYouâre still so curious about me, now, arenât you? Obviously, you might not be getting any information on myself anytime soon.â She brought her hand out, as if admiring her nails then, like a stereotypical girl, the sort of image she wanted to give him now. âOh, Iâm very capable of killing the Doctor all on my own, quite simple, now that I think about it.â She smirked lightly, growing to actually like this guy. The Master, oh how the name itself just catches her attention so easily. They had the same goal, and they both had the same attitude, though she felt like she was the only life in this office at the moment, only one trying to get fun out of this.
He sighed, enough with this smart talk, what a girl. He shot the hand holding the gun without as much as a secondâs warning, the laser only producing a solid zoom. âLaser screwdriver, it is of my own invention, I highly doubt youâve seen it before now. â He had made sure the laser was on mild mode before shooting, in attempts to simply drop the gun as was a reflex to such a sting, âNow,â he mimicked her using her own word expression as he adjusted his blazer jacket, cleverly handling his screwdriver as he put it back in its place in his inner jacket pocket, âAs you were. You may address me as Master if we proceed to converse, back to the topic on you,â he laughed shortly in an amused manner, âYou continue to put words in my mouth, I never said or âaccusedâ you of being a Time Lord, no, I have yet to figure out what you are,â he sneered delighted with the turn of events, âI suppose youâre all about fun, arenât you? With that attitude we wonât get anywhere, though, going on about the Doctor, I must question, how is it that you have seen him quite often and claim to know him more than I when it is I that practically grew up with him, that is what dawns me,â he rounded his desk, coming to the edge where the desk no longer stood between them, hands clasped behind his back, head up, âSo yes, I claim to know all about how to get the Doctor, do you?â
She only raised an eyebrow, her arm stretched out still with the gun and kept aim at him, right at his chest so she could see him clearly. âOh, I shoot, you regenerate, boo hoo, your energy will be used and thatâs less time for you.â She looked at the screwdriver, smiling. âOh, I recognize that one easily.â She spoke in the same mocking tone as if it was common sense. âNow, if you were to use that on me, and kill me, wouldnât look too good to you, now would it?â She nearly cooed to him at the question. âThe Master, hm? A bit too high of a name for yourself, Iâd say.â Her eyes swept over him like they had when she first came into the office. âYou claim you know all about how to get to the Doctor, when you havenât seen him nearly as much as I already have. Isnât that just adorable? Iâm younger too, which only adds the amusement.â She dramatically yawned, covering her mouth with her free hand. âOh, look at you, accusing a poor, little, meddling girl of being a Time Lord.â She sighed, letting her head back to look at the ceiling and close her eyes for a moment, as if a child about to whine about their parents not getting them what they want. âPlease. Thereâs more to than just that. Now, why would I admit anything, or even tell you about myself? That just ruins all the fun here, doesnât it?â Melody looked back to him then, tilting her head to the side as she watched him again.
He chuckled lightly at her words, finding amusement within her nature. He stayed in his chair even as she stood from hers, walking around his office in such a fashion to make herself acquainted with it. The name, she kept using the name of which held no meaning to him, it was growing pathetic even know since she knew who he was, âMy name, is the Master.â He said briefly, taking this chance to stand from his chair approaching his own desk to face her, only to stop a couple yards away, âNow, where youâve gone wrong. I have made no judgement on you, but you have peeked my curiosity.â He smiled plainly, ignoring the gun, âAnd yes, to confirm you words from before, I am sure of myself, why wouldnât I be?â It was at these words he pulled out his laser screwdriver, it was heard by the sheathing sound it made when he activated it, âIâve got a screwdriver, now, do you want to test which one is faster?â He taunted, âYouâre curious, despite the urge to shoot, just as I am, but to test my patience is an entirely different matter.â His confidence was overwhelming, he knew his strengths in this situation, âYou shoot me, I regenerate as you know, but not without taking one shot at you with this,â he waved his laser, âWithout giving you a second chance to end me, and you, well, die.â He frowned, something wasnât right, he knew that confidence that surged through her, of course she wouldnât put forth her life in such a stupid manner without knowing something else, âOrâ you regenerate.â He said simply, testing the idea, he could sense it briefly, just a bit though it was still a thought, why else would she mention that he knew nothing about her? He was willing to take this chance.
She merely watched him, listening as she leaned back once more in the chair. She smirked still, not taking any offense to his words or action. "My, you seem so sure of yourself. Out to get the Doctor, oh, look at me, I'm the Prime Minister, I have power and can get what I want." She chuckled, pulling herself up onto her feet. She started to roam around his office slowly, folding her arms across her chest. "Harold, you're going to need to realize a few things." She said, as if scolding a child. "You have only just made a judgement on me.. incorrectly, let's say. You don't know where I come from, who my parents are, nothing." She spat the last word, keeping a light tone, once more, as if mocking. "I, Harold, will not be in your way. You won't be in my way for long either, to get to the Doctor." She came around to the back of his desk then, looking around for a long moment, letting her eyes take in everything on the desk. A smile appeared then, looking up to him and held a finger up to him. "Oh! One second!" She pulled a gun out of her boot then easily, aiming towards him. "Down to business. I've got a gun. You're Prime Minister. You're in my way. What the hell, why not now?" She only stared at him now over the gun she held up, her lips pulling up into the small smile that was now unreadable.
He lifted his head slowly in a knowingly motion, keeping his eyes on her, now sitting back comfortably in his chair, hands rested at the edge of the arms of the chair, "So you know about the Time Lords, how quaint," was his first response despite all she had said, as he shut his eyes in thought, "Words are merely words, you shouldn't always take them for what they are, you know I am no friend of the Doctor, though I have no intention of explaining our connection but enemy does nicely. You're also an adversary toward him, oh, this is splendid." He grinned, finally looking back at her, "You see, I've been waiting quite a while to meet him, soon he will arrive from beyond and I shall have him." He pressed on, "I don't need a meddling girl in my way." He brushed invisible dust off shoulder simply to carry on conversation, "As for people finding out my true identity, I have it all under control, as you may assume should you be wise enough to. There is of course, the Arch Angel Network, surly you've heard of that? You might even have it on your phone, everyone does." He let out a tired sigh to indicate his boredom, finding her of no use.
Surprisingly, Melody only laughed quietly, shaking her head. "You? A time lord? You're the Prime Minister for God's sake, how did that one work out?" She shook her head, despite the expression of awe towards him. "If he's your friend," She used air quotes with her fingers, still looking amused, "Then what was that look I saw before? Wasn't a very friendly look when I mentioned his name, no?" She leaned back still in the seat, watching him. The Prime Minister was a Time Lord. Wow, she thought, let that one sink in. No one knew? "Pity if your identity would be let out.. what you really are." She raised her eyebrows at him still, the amusement in her eyes never leaving. "Oh, how do I know of the Doctor?" She smirked, straightening up in her seat. She daringly leaned forwards to him, her eyes staring into his. "I'm the one who's to kill the Doctor." She said quietly.
He grinned lightly as he narrowed his eyes, folding his hands together as he paused briefly to contemplate how to answer to this insolent yet brilliant girl, taking under consideration how she behaves, "He's a friend.." he began slowly, still forming his words and thoughts as he kept his sight on her, never taking his eyes off, "We schooled together," which wasn't entirely a lie, they did attend the Academy back at Gallifrey together, though how would this human know that. At that moment she could determine if he was a fraud or of a different nature, considering that he was able to school with the Doctor, the Time Lord, it is this sentence that will ascertain how much she knows of the Doctor herself. He sat up straight in his seat, leaning forward so that his elbows rested on his knees, hands remaining together. "Though, perhaps, it be wise to tell me now, how do you know of the Doctor, girl?" He bargained for answers, surly she would comply, after all, he held the dominating power.
Melody kept a normal face as she watched him. No way was she going to give her cover up now. "Sorry, did you just call me 'Mels'?" She held back the offensive tone, though there was a hint of it in her voice still, almost covered up, but not entirely. She waved it off lazily with her free hand though, guessing perhaps every teacher in the country probably knew to take precaution while having her in a class room. She was amused at the thought, but continued to watch him carefully. "Oh, well, seems that there'd be too much talking at this point for tea." She shrugged dramatically and made a face. "Dear Harold, I believe you should really listen to your guest here, hm? Yes, I think so. Tell me, Harold--I can call you that right? Well, I came here to talk to you. I'll ask the question. How do you know of the Doctor?" She raised a daring eyebrow at him, not moving where she was at all. With her hand that wasn't holding her head up, she stretched out to the other arm of the chair, showing a fake sign of boredom--it was her curiosity, coming out slowly but held it in. She tilted her head ever so slightly as her eyes remained focus on him, squinting a little.
The Master gave a pressed smile, keeping up his own act in contrast to this child in his eyes, what she had planned he was unsure of, time to delve into her mindset. Once she took her given seat, he followed in suit, leaning back against the comfort of the chair as he normally would, resting his elbows up along the arms of the chair, and touching the tips of fingers together. "Do make yourself comfortable," he added once she'd settled down, with a touch of tease in his voice, "Down to business, dear Mels, tell me," he paused briefly as he addressed her, eyes glinting, allowing his words to sink in, reminding her who was at the top of the game, "How do you know of the Doctor?" He asked her, keeping himself in very much the same position, "And if you really do care about the tea, there are some sugar jars near the cupboard, though I highly doubt it applies to you." He doubted the young woman knew much on the matter, for he could tell at a glance, this one acted with fire, such a life this human had within herself, and confidence, he reminded himself to be wary.
Melody couldn't help looking satisfied now. Oh, she was very satisfied with the reaction she got. Just the one she wanted. She stayed where she was, but stepped to the side, watching him close the door smugly for a moment. Good, she could stop this good girl act.. mostly. "Oh, tea sounds just about as good as anything at this point." She knew her act would end soon. She was now interested in what he knew of the Doctor. She was just going to play with him for a bit before going in for the real reason why she was here. A cat with a ball of yarn. Almost too easy. He was prime minister, for god's sake, he seemed just as vulnerable as she thought, maybe a bit more than she had in mind at first. The sudden reaction kept her satisfied though and gave a small smile, though mixed with a smirk as she took a breath, walking over to the seat he'd gestured too. She let herself get comfortable right away though, leaning back as if she was back at home in her room, propping her arm up and holding the back of her head in her hand, crossing her legs comfortably.
Upon entry he offered a closed smile, closing the current folder and casting his attention her way. He quickly observed the girl, dubbing her somewhat normal and mentally prepared himself for a typical student conversation. From what the secretary told him, a school paper, that's all she needed. He played his part, keeping up the smile, though not forced, for he was amused with her behavior. He caught her eye movement, various times, once at him the other around the room, not that she would get much out of looks. He nodded in correspondence to her praise, unfolding his hands that once rested on the desk and leaned back into his chair, propping his right hand up on the side of his head as he continued to listen. Her next words hit him, he showed signs of recognition toward the term used, Doctor, his eyes brightened up at the name as he sat up straighter in his chair, "You have my gratitude," he acknowledged her previous compliment before continuing, "Ah, yes. Good man, though I hardly have time to see him given my work schedule," he waved his hand at the security, gesturing for them to make leave, despite given the doubtful looks from the men, "Oh go on, she's just a girl." He confirmed their departure, rising from his chair to close the door behind them, "We won't be long," he nodded to the guard who would wait by the door. Once the sound-proof door was shut and locked, he waited a moment before lifting his hand off the knob, "Would you care for some tea?" He asked upon the turn, motioning over to his miniature lounge area that consisted of two armchairs and a coffee table, beverages already served. He stood there waiting for her to take a seat, preferably to his standards, as he watched her with his full attention.
