Love Letters to the Wind!
“I misplaced my heart, and tossed out my senses,
I threw out my fears: I didn’t want to end this.
I hurt my own friends, I screamed at my family.
I did all this for you, because of the way that you hurt me.”
He taught me distrust, lie and deceit
How to turn my own back: to find poison laced blades,
Tucked away by those I respect, those I loved.
Exposing me to my allies worst, and more importantly
the worst of my mind, or what I thought first.
He took my dreams, and swapped them for tears,
All out of his own uncertainty, his own cowardice.
He taught me instinct, he taught me anxiety.
I took my instinct and surprised it for a while,
I was bitter and angry, a pure carnivore.
He came along and I was tired of fighting.
I was a predator for too long, now I was prey,
For a boy who laughed as I bled, with a smirk on his face.
He played with my heart, he tore it to shreds,
Piecing it together again just to tear apart,
I wasn’t a human being to him, I was a plaything,
He played until I went back to the wilds.
A pretty face came, and I fell in a trance,
My ferocity calmed, letting envy creep in.
She weaved her way into my veins and she screamed
awful thoughts into my ears as he watched her not me.
She agreed when his friends asked “Why me?”.
He was unaware of the warfare he had caused,
Oh modern day Helen of Troy…for I had found my fight.
I tossed envy aside and moved onto spite.
Raging and thrashing, shrieking and wailing.
I lost to her face, but I was the one left standing.
Standing atop a bloodied field, a sunflower grew out,
In all the red bloodshed, yellow and green caught my eye.
He felt my heartbeat and promised me the world,
I thought I had won, finally I had won.
But that was it, promises meant nothing to this flower.
They still don’t, he tried to come back.
And faded away into the pile of corpses around me,
hiding me and taunting me with my broken dreams.
Now I can’t enjoy sunsets the same anymore,
They look like sunflower meadows.
They look like my delusional fantasies.
The next was an Adonis, he stood high as a mountain,
He snatched my heart with a swoop
and returned it with a crash.
With his back turned, his shadow set;
Frigid and unsettling-bathed in shade.
I drowned in the darkness, I couldn’t wade through.
I didn’t have the hope to tear myself away.
How could I leave such an irresistible beauty?
I would have given him the world,
but then I realised I would have lost mine in the process.
He would have gladly taken it with a handsome smile.
Two came along and ensnared my whole being,
They wrapped me up in their aura
and pretended to worship me at my feet.
That’s where they wanted to be, they tricked
me into thinking I had any semblance of power.
My terms never surfaced, only theirs.
I got warped by two lovers, hoping
I’d be able to feel the same. I tore myself away
when I realised how they really felt,
The hypocrites called me disgusting,
When they were ready to lick
the bottom of my heels. Stupid pig people.
One taught me a lesson quick and simple.
He promised me something more,
and quit before he had a chance.
He sold passion and pleasure,
Whilst focusing on stealing his own.
A quick trade of skin was all he wanted,
And sometimes it’s okay to give in.
I knew I was being used, I had no energy to fight.
So, plain and easy. I tossed away into him.
I played his twisted game,
and didn’t come out worse for wear.
He was somewhat honest with his scam at least.
He made no attempts at my wallet or heart.
The longest was this boy, he waded in smoke.
He taught me the most pain, and just how to hide it.
I learnt how to laugh, just to cover my tears.
I wanted his warmth, I’m not sure why.
But I got enraptured in his scent,
I think my dad being an alcoholic is why.
The craving for poison is in my blood,
And he was seeped in toxicity.
Even now I keep coming back.
I can’t list a good point about him,
Except I’m a sucker for vice.
And this not so pure boy has me tight,
Not letting go, just to abuse me.
And with this, I’ve been left broken.
I didn’t realise it was so apparent.
Until he took me in his arms, his hands, his mouth.
And showed me my light.
My hands were tightly pressed to his lips,
And he kissed me like everyone was his last.
He cherrypicked his words to please me,
And reminded me I wasn’t to serve him.
He called me beautiful, he wished me the world.
Yet, miles keep our distance and it’s hard to feel his warmth.
With every kiss he gave me, I felt myself unfurl.
I was scared to let him in, in case I broke.
But I think I regret letting go so early,
Lest the chance might not come around again.
For these boys I have set fire to my heart.
I’ve made myself so damaged.
But, I’ve learnt so many things, I think I can have this.
It’s been a whole lot, I still feel it in my bones.
The pain doesn’t ease, but at least now I know.
I do know pain, I do know heartache,
I do know fondness, I do know ecstasy.
I may not have any one of them now,
But I have me. I’m the one who’s learnt them.
“I’ve reclaimed my heart, and got back my senses,
I threw out my fears: I didn’t have to end this.
I’ve healed my own friends, I’ve loved my whole family.
I did all this for you, because of the way that you hurt me.”
