He was breaking, he could feel himself falling apart and he felt so <em>helpless</em> because he didn't even know where to start looking for Eva and Elizabeth, and their was no way that he could take on the president on his own. He couldn't ask anyone else either, even her ancestor Isleta was busy raising children. He couldn't ask them to leave heir family's behind to help him get his back. He wouldn't be responsible for that.

“Let me sleep…”  why was he making such a fuss about him staying in bed all week?

Kaien understood that sometimes Isaya needed time like this, but with how long he’d been lazing about he was starting to get worried. And so he had decided that today? He was going to get him out of bed. Instead of forcing his overly happy persona on the Pureblood though he sat on the edge of the bed and smiled normally as he reached for the others hand.

“Come on Isaya, its nice and overcast today with no rain so I thought that maybe we could go to the park or one a hike or something. I’ve got all the stuff we need for a picnic! I even already grabbed you some cloths so all you have to do is get up and ready to go.”

“Kaien…” He was getting really nervous about wanting to say no. Isaya could barely keep his eyes open he doubted he could go out in the sun. What if he ended up ruining a perfect day for him by being moody and tired? And he didn’t want Kaien to get mad at him either. 

He stared hard at kaien sadly. He hid his face by covering himself in blankets not saying word…not knowing what to say he didn’t wanna lie. He really wanted to stay in bed. It’s not that he didn’t want to go or thought it was boring, Isaya worried his depressing attitude might clash with his friendliness.

He clenched Kaien’s hand through the blankets. Just to keep him informed he didn’t mean act coldly. But he also felt like he could go if he had more convincing.He couldn’t get out of bed even when the maids encouraged him. Thats why the curtains were open. Kaien’s voice was more encouraging than any servant.

Kaien squeezed Isaya’s hand slightly, also tugging it slightly to try and get him up. He wouldn’t force him to go, but he had a feeling that Isaya would at least half willingly go if he kept trying to persuade him–and he was positive that it would lift his mood at least a bit.

“I’ve got an umbrella and I know a nice shady spot we can go to, I think you’ll feel much better once you get up! Plus, the sun will e going down soon so you won’t have to deal with web what light is managing to filter through the clouds. Come on, it’ll be fun.”

He actually pulled him up now, fully relying on his own strength to lift Isaya and sit him up on the edge of the bed, he at least wanted him to get out of bed for a few minutes and walk around. Even if he couldn’t convince him to go on the picnic, he needed to do something even if it was small.

“At least get up for a few minutes, I know it’ll make you feel a little better.

Kaien didn't want to stay in bed, he had things he needed to do. Student applications to look over, Teacher lesson plans to review, a request to purchase more horses because of the class becoming more popular and the renovations to make the old stable into an art club. But even he could feel how warm his head was and the cold chill's and nausea, he didn't really get sick a lot but every few decades or so he seemed to get hit with being sick and would be laid up for a could of days. And so he nodded his acceptance to the request before giving one of his own.

“Okay, but will you stay with me, Isaya?”

Kaien had heard the door to his office start to open and stood up, nearly greeting whoever it was by opening the door with a very much forced on happy expression. Then he heard Liza speak and his hand stopped just a small space away from the door nob and his hand pulled back to his side as he listened to her, coming up to his face as he listened. He had to force himself not to open the door and just continue to listen to her, of course, he didn’t blame Eva; of course, he didn’t hate her. Even if he didn’t know until much later that it wasn’t her choice to leave he could respect her decision, even if he never really accepted it. Even after he had stopped looking he never really accepted that he wouldn’t see either of them again; he had continued to love Eva and understood why she had left, and he could never really let go of Elizabeth. Not any more than he would now be able to really let go of Yuuki or Zero.

The years without knowing Elizabeth nd not being able to find Eva? They had broken him in ways that he didn’t let people see, in ways he hadn’t even let Elizabeth see now that he had found her again---she didn’t want her to feel guilty about anything that was out of her control, something that he didn’t even blame Eva for with her reason’s for doing it. When she finished and went to walk away he finally opened the door, pulling his daughter into a hug---a normal one rather than his usual over-enthusiastic attempt at giving any of his children attention. There were so many things that she had said, too much for him to answer with this one gesture and so he picked the most important one.

“Of course, I miss her; I still think about her, I still care about her--I still love her even though she’s gone. And I love you too Elizabeth, I didn’t choose to stop looking. how your friendships with the purebloods? juri,isaya,haruka etc

     “My friendship with Juri is long and complicated—and I don’t want to get into it to much at the moment. As for Haruka—well there wasn’t really a friendship between us, more of a mutual respect for the others respective place in Juri’s life.” Kaien explained, before taking a sip of the tea he had before moving on to Isaya.

     “Isaya on the other hand! He has been a good friend for years; longer than I have been pacifistic towards Vampire.” He explained before continuing. “I was still rather young when his Wife turned their children human, being about 50 years old—though I had stopped aging years before. I met him when I noticed that each time I passed the area leading towards his home, there was the presence of both humans and a Pureblood Vampire.”

     “One day I decided to investigate, despite the Association telling me not to. Even when I was loyal to them and wanted nothing but to end vampires existence I wasn’t really loyal to them but more their resources. But I noticed that some middle aged humans seemed to be living with a Pureblood Vampire, and so naturally fearing for their safety I confronted him. After learning of the truth, I realized that as his children were now human—it was very unlikely that he would kill humans.”

     “Don’t get me wrong! We weren’t really friends at first. Originally I had only promised to leave him be until his children were gone—but it wasn’t long after that that I met Juri. After my encounter with her, it wasn’t until both of Isaya’s children had passed that I meet him again. He was glad to see me again actually—he thought that I was there to end his life; to take him away from the pain of losing his children after already having lost his wife…”

     “That was what truly made me see that what Juri said was true—and what started to open my eyes to the fact that Vampires felt emotions just as humans did. That made me see that some of them just weren’t good—but humans were the same way…” Kaien paused for a moment as he remembered the state his friend had been in all those years ago before continuing. “And so—instead of ending his life like he wanted me to I stayed with him for a bit; I helped him get over his pain and moved on as best one would be able to after something like that.”

     “After that; I made sure to visit him every couple of years. Even after he went into his slumber—I wanted him to know that he still had friends and someone who cared, even if his family was gone. I talked to him well he was in his sleep…but it wasn’t until afterwards that I learned he was able to comprehend the things I told him.”

Kaien had indeed heard that there would be another hunter coming to his school, he had not however b- een told the name of said student and at it, he felt li- ke his stomach dropped out onto the floor. He did h- is best after all not to think about his deceased wife and here was a girl who shared a name with her an- d seemed to be adorned with cross related access- ories and  weapons.  He did his best  to put  a smile on though before replying, despite the longer than n- ecessary pause after the girl’s explanation.

                    Though his pushed that happy tone he was so used to                     letting simmer at the surface, there was something a-                     lmost flat to it and his  shoulders seemed to sage like                     the name left a weight on him.
