I was talking to her yesterday, and she said this: “You know the time for los jibbities is coming up. You must be so excited!” Oh, is it time for los jibbities already? I must have missed it on my calendar. Are we celebrating something? “Of course! We should all be celebrating, shouldn’t we?” OK, so los jibbities is a happy thing. "It do. It can take days sometimes to head from one place to t'other. Sometimes, weeks if I'm goin' t' somewhere like Alaska. Only been there th' one an' dat was enough for me. I was raised on th' road, tho. Easy when it's all you know, kiddo," he explained. A smooth roll up into standing position and joining Beau. It's easy enough to slice the andouille, working effortlessly with the knife to chop it up for his son.

He still can't get over the fact he's got another kid. Part of him wants to feel guilty for sleeping around so much.l Kids who grew up without a dad, and never knowing about him or, at least, not knowing what he looked like.

"I've never been the type to stay in one place. Even with a space to call my own, I'm still on the road a lot. Sitting still isn't my vibe, an' I think my brother wishes otherwise."

Beau couldn't even imagine it, traveling all the time, never having a place to comfortably call home. His shack wasn't much to look at, didn't have electricity or running water or any of the things that people thought were necessary to survive, but it was his home, where he'd grown up with his mama, where he'd learned to fish and catch gators. He couldn't imagine ever leaving it, this place that had kept him safe his whole life.

"Don' sound like mucha peace in dat kinda life," he muttered, paying more attention to the gumbo than what he was saying. "Don' ya ever wish y' could 'ave a bit o' peace, a bit o' a break? I cain't imagine not 'avin' my bayou. Dis place is de only place I ever belonged."

There were a lot of reasons for that, for Beau not having a place to belong, and he didn't want Dean to feel guilty for any of it. Growing up hadn't been easy on Beau, especially after his mama died, and there had been a lot of times he'd wished for his daddy, for someone to take care of him. But there was no sense in bringing that up now. Dean didn't need that.

"What's yer favorite place t' visit when you out on de road? You go to dose tourist traps I read about?"

Remy knew he wasn't useless being present, offering comfort and backup but damn it, if it didn't still feel like he was just a useless lump at the moment. He allowed Reb to squeeze his hand, leaning back against her slightly to make sure they didn't both fall out of the bed if he got caught slipping.

"How soon is soon? Don' Rebecca need looked at as soon as possible wid de diabetes?" Remy pointed out. His words were quiet casual, and his eyes were still covered but oh how he wished to level a hard stare at the nurse. Not because she wasnt helping, to the best he could see anyways, but because he was very concerned about repercussions of the baby coming sooner than they'd expected, Reb's health being impacted.

"Doctor is on another birth right now, it's rather b—" Remy immediately interrupted.

"Get me a rough estimate at de very least. She already close." It was hard work keeping the contempt out of his voice, the entire hospital staff on his shitlist now until proven otherwise, but he managed to do so with the effort.

"Gon' getchu taken care of, petite."

"She should be ten minutes," the nurse told him, hovering for a moment before turning to prepare the IV fluids and grab the needle so she could put the line in Reb's arm. "I'm going to get the IV going and we'll get Rebecca into a gown. I can check on her then."

Reb's grip on Remy tightened and she turned away from the nurse, knowing that now was no time for her fear of needles. The baby was more important. It didn't stop her from flinching when the nurse cleaned her arm, feeling a rush of fear along with the pain. She wanted to beg not to have the IV but she bit her tongue, hiding her face against Remy's chest instead.

Once the IV port was in, the nurse held out a hospital gown. "I can help you change or he can, but we need to get you out of those clothes so I can check your progress. When was your last contraction?"

"A minute ago," Reb pulled away from Remy reluctantly, already pulling off her shirt and grabbing the gown. She wasn't shy about her body. "I have another minute. Remy, help me stand up so I can get my pants off."
