HELLO! I’m back…after a six month absence. I’ve posted a few manicures on instagram but I’ve mostly had a break from designs.
Before it becomes a mammoth task I thought I’d update tumblr, just for completions sake.
A tie dye manicure was suggested to me by a Facebook friend so I thought it was an ideal time to try out the sandwich bag technique for creating marble effect strips of polish.
You simply let them dry, peel them off and you have your own hand made nail wraps to trim off and stick to your base coat using a clear polish.
Add a shiny top coat and they look really effective. I can NEVER get the hang of actual water marbling so I was really pleased with how easy this technique was to pick up.
I can’t seem to go to any event without feeling compelled to create some nail art for it. And this is no exception!
John Robertson has created a brilliant, interactive comedy show based on the text-based adventure games of the 80s. Despite only a few audience taking part and playing along live, the show is engaging, hilarious, baffling and terrifying in equal measure. Once my friend and I seen what the show entailed, and felt a little more confident, we basically wanted to keep going back to take part.
Sadly, since seeing The Dark Room in Edinburgh back in 2012 I’ve not had the opportunity to revisit one of his live shows due to time/money/location issues. But finally on December 3rd he’s doing a Christmas extravaganza in London and I have decided to initiate two friends into the cult. It's the least I can do seeing as they allow me to stay with them. A fair exchange, I feel.
So here we have my small tribute to the show. He promises a free Jesus so I’ve obviously had to include crucifixes. And death. And teeth.

Tunnock’s teacakes!
It’s such an iconic design and when I thought of the potential for half moon manis it went straight on my to-do list. Then of course I had to by a box to pose with ;-)
I’m pretty happy with how this turned out though, as usual, I’m just picking up on the flaws: could really do with a better guide sticker for the circles.
Some people commented that their logo is very Pop Art style but what I think of is some kind of Communist/Russian Constructivism/Japanese design. Whatever it is, I really like it…and like what’s inside the packet even better!
Not quite ready for Christmas yet, but I'm happy with some Winter Wonderland style nails. I did these a while back but I'm getting some inspiration for this winter....any suggestions?
Whenever I'm struggling for inspiration I find it's always good to just look at what I have around me! I have quite a collection of scarves and this is my most recent, plus I've got a love for neon/neutral nails. Scarf was a bargain from a sale in Miss Selfridge and it's packed full of patterns that I can recreate. Next time I'll try to include some neon yellow.
These are the selection of fake nails I designed and painted for fellow fans and the leopard print were for Fania Grigoriou, the original and best P.A. I have to say I even though I do enjoy painting on fakes (because I know I can get the details perfect), I think I enjoy painting on my own nails even more. There is more of a challenge to get both left and right hands with the same level of detail and I am rather competitive against my own standards!
I realise I've posted all of these before, however I thought I'd collect all of my nail art inspired by The Drowned Man into one post. Of course, it's going to be two posts now as I've got too many! In case you can't tell (though I'm certain most fans will be able to) they are as follows: * Harry Greener's tie *The P.A *Miguel/Day of the Dead hoedown *Mr Tuttle *Conrad & Harry's moment in the Studio 3 limelight * Romola Martin * Leland Madison Stanford *Selected male characters-Fool, Dwayne, Stanford, Harry. *Finale night red roses *Selected town characters- Tuttle, Grocer, Badlands Jack...and finally just some sand from the desert!!
Paisley pattern based on a tie I got from The Drowned Man costume and prop sale. The tie belonged to the character of Harry, specifically belonging to James Traherne's version of Harry (it's got his name tag in!) Regardless of the costume significance I think it's a really autumnal design and colour scheme. I could re-do this and make the pattern even more delicate as I feel the dots and lines are a little heavy handed...but then I'm always very critical!

An attempt at a fireworks design for tonight! I'm not convinced I've nailed it, so to speak, as I didn't test it out before doing it on my nails! A learning curve...I think they got better as I went along and my right hand, oddly, ended up better!

It's made me SO happy to have found this. I've wondered for ages about the Twitter alias so this is one little mystery solved.
Last Monday my prize from the summer prize draw by notyouraveragenails arrived. Yes, you read correctly, the summer prize draw! While I was thrilled with my win, I think we were both less thrilled with the speed Canadian postal service! Nevertheless, it arrived in perfect condition and I was very excited to start work on a manicure using the products.
As you can see, I’ve started with a Diet Coke themed manicure to go along with the OPI Coca Cola collaboration. The collection includes 8 mini polishes based on a variety of Coke products including a classic Coke red, a Cherry Coke purple and even a multi-chrome green to represent Sprite!
As I’m slightly addicted to Diet Coke, of course I decided to go for that logo using the ‘My Signature is DC’ chrome/silver as a base with the classic red plus Barry M black + white polishes for details.
For my first attempt at free-hand lettering I’m really pleased with how the logo turned out. For my fingers I chose to do a mani to be viewed from top to bottom as if it was a bottle of Diet Coke with my middle nail as the label. For the ‘liquid’ I used a base of Barry M Dusky Mauve with the OPI ‘Today I Accomplished Zero’ over it.
The Coke Zero polish is a translucent black polish with lots of maroon glitter, it’s not The right colour for Coke, obviously, but on top of a brownish-mauve it’s a very good representation of the fizzy drink! It’s pretty hard to capture in electric light so I’ve taken my main photo outside so you can see the glitter particles more accurately. Finally, I thought I’d add detail with a few silver bubbles rising up…just to tie the design together a bit more.
