Myth: People experiencing homelessness just need to get a job.
Fact: While employment helps people stay housed, it does not guarantee housing. As many as 40%-60% of people experiencing homelessness have a job, but housing is unaffordable because wages have not kept up with rising rents. There is no county or state where a full-time minimum-wage worker can afford a modest apartment. At minimum wage, people have to work 86 hours a week to afford a one-bedroom. Even when people can afford a home, one is not always available. In 1970, the United States had a surplus of 300,000 affordable homes. Today, only 37 affordable homes are available for every 100 extremely low-income renters. As a result, 70% of the lowest-wage households spend more than half their income on rent, placing them at high risk of homelessness when unexpected expenses (such as car repairs and medical bills) arise.
USICH is the only federal agency with the sole mission of preventing and ending homelessness in America. We coordinate with our 19 federal m
Please watch and share this. People need to see the cruelty of the current administration . This is beyond comprehension.
The world needs better humans.
Be one.
It’s looks likely the ACA subsidies are going to expire. This is going to have catastrophic effects on over 20 million people. There is going to be millions of people having to decide between their healthcare or food and housing. People in our already volatile economy are struggling just to make ends meet. This is the time when we all have to come together to ease the burden of our neighbors. I understand that many people have their own struggles but I believe if we all give what we can, we can make a huge difference. Every can of soup, box of cereal, or an unused coat could be the difference between life and death for a person who is hungry or cold.
Please take the opportunity to make a difference . Get in touch with your local food, pantries or local organizations who help distribute food and much needed supplies.

Heather Cox Richardson authors a daily newsletter that is required reading. How she does it, I don't quite know. She does on a daily basis what would take mortals about a month -- researching, writing, editing and publishing a comprehensive essay covering current and historical events.
It's news you can use.
One of the reasons we have rampant homelessness, people going bankrupt over a hospital stay, people’s inability to afford their medication, and peoples and inability to feed their family is because we have allowed corporations, lobbyists and billionaires to buy our politicians. Our elected officials, democrats, and republicans alike don’t answer to the constituents, but to the corporations and billionaires who donated the most money. This is why our federal minimum wage is only $7.25. This is why health insurance companies dictate whether or not someone lives or dies. This is why the pharmaceutical companies can charge whatever they want. This is the reason why the middle class pays for everything and corporations and billionaires pay little or no taxes. This is why we have 42 million Americans receiving SNAP benefits. This is the reason why our Medicare and Social Security is going broke. The American people forgot that we hold all the power when we fight together. We must hold our politicians accountable for their actions and inactions. People who don’t uphold and respect our constitution have no business in the politics. People who put corporations and billionaires best interest over the working class has no business in politics. They are not working for the majority they’re working for the few. Part of what makes the American experiment work is when all Americans rich, middle class and low income work together. It’s when all Americans pay their fair share. It’s when we respect the separation of power. It’s when we uphold and defend our constitution.
