So Fennell whitewashed the most important character in the story AND changes an abusive relationship into "she was asking for it! because she was into it!!!" How is this defensible? wuthering heights came out in the 1840s, was a groundbreaking novel on abuse and oppression, and the only thing a hundred plus years has made us think to add is "the rape/abuse victim was actually INTO being abused" great. well done. fantastic.

books used to start from the perspective of just some guy. frankenstein, wuthering heights, ethan frome.

some outsider tells the story. or, more accurately and more often, the story is told to some outsider, by the insiders. and that outsider then relays it to us, in some form or another.

what i find funny is that these stories survive in pop culture and are relatively familiar even to those who haven’t read the originals. but the introductory character is very nearly forgotten unless you read source material.

what are other classics that do this? and can anyone think of modern novels that do the same?

i thought he would be more of a rochester type, kinda evil but also has some seriously redemptive qualities. but so far from what i can tell he’s just awful in general.

and honestly catherine is only marginally better. like is there a single decent person in this book? idk man

apparently it’s house md positivity week? i drew this without even knowing! recently finished this show for the first time. anyway chase and park are one of my favorite relationship dynamics. park is such an intense weirdo and i think she gets under chase’s skin in a good way. chases fondness of her brings up her self-esteem. i’m not sure if i think they should be a couple or have a really awesome platonic relationship but whatever. i honestly have a few headcannons about that. another time tho lol.
