Getting excited, feeling hopeful

After a year of pulling together to get Tony through cancer treatment and helping our brave little daughter to learn to live with Ehlers-Danlos, we are starting to get ready to open our tearoom again.

It will just be for a couple of days a week so that Jade can still get the care that she needs.

We are busy creating menus and trying out recipes so that our food will be delicious and beautiful.

We are taking our time though, and hope to open 5th September.

Christmas at Wabi-Sabi seems such a long time ago - and yet because of the weather, it feels like the year hasn't quite started yet. This week; it's time to crank things up! 2013, here we come...

Kick-a-thon

Wow! We were blown away by the students, friends and family that took part in the Kick-a-thon to Dare to Stand Up to Cancer. Some AMAZING efforts. From the 3 year olds right through to the oldest....tremendous. Thank you to all who took part, including the lovely qigong students who held kick pads and counted kicks for us. It was a really wonderful Wabi-Sabi Community effort. Lets hope that we made a difference no matter how small. Will update you all when we have the final mounts in this week. x

Here's our inspiration for the event - Karen and family. Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer and has undergone treatment. She and all her family, including husband David (not on photo) now are an essential part of Wabi-Sabi life, training in qigong, taekwondo and being a major part of the self defence programme helping to save lives!

Objective: find the best possible supplier of luxury ice-cream

...... Here we are at the start feeling pretty chirpy with the first 5 pots!

The Wabi-Sabi Academy will be doing a demonstration on Saturday at Coxhoe Primary School's Strawberry Fayre. Exciting!

Demo At Darlington

We will be putting on a demo of Taekwondo and Qigong at 1:30 pm Cockerton Green in Darlington on Saturday!

Come and say hello and sample our Chinese tea too!

Part of Team Wabi- Sabi at The Big Jubilee Lunch at Newton Hall. It was cold but we enjoyed it. Lots of chinese tea was consumed and qigong kept us warm!

We really enjoyed the evening of the Tea Presentation. Great company and scrumptious tea! Thank you to everyone who donated to the Butterwick Hospice!

Just a reminder about the FREE event on this Saturday. A respected tea expert will be coming to Wabi-Sabi to give a presentation on Chinese Teas and conduct a formal tea presentation. Donations will be invited to go to Butterwick Hospice.

Tea Presentation

On the evening of the 26th May, we will be hosting a "Tea Presentation" where a tea expert will talk through Chinese teas and conduct a full tea ceremony. This event will be free and donations invited will go to Butterwick Hospice.

Real Self-Defence / Personal Safety Seminar

We are running a full day self defence / personal safety seminar on the Sunday, 13th May, 10 am start.

As you may already be aware, much of what is taught in “self defence” classes and in many martial arts classes is pretty useless in real life. Many of the techniques that are taught are difficult for most people to produce even in a training environment. Locks and pressure points require years of training and even then, they may not work for a variety of reasons. The truth is when an attack comes, we will feel fear and a natural result of that fear, that we can not control, is the "adrenaline dump". This can be devastating, especially if you are not prepared for it.

The good news is, a high percentage of attacks can be avoided all together if you know how to and develop good spacial awareness skills. That being said, sometimes a physical confrontation is unavoidable.

We recommend that you get some training - from great instructors BEFORE you need it! We have to talk about it BEFORE an incident occurs (and of course, we all hope an “incident” never arrives). BEFORE is 1000-times better than anything we can talk about AFTER something happens. Prevention is far, far better than therapy-after-the-fact.

We want you to live without fear, without paranoia, without feeling constantly at risk, but we also want you to KNOW YOUR OPTIONS. We want you to be able to fight for your life should you need to.

We will be teaching self defence that is proven to work, based on sound research. The price will be £15 for non-members and £10 for members. Families will be charged £30 for non-members and £20 for members. (lower age limit is 12 years old).

At Last - Opening !

After a great deal of hard work from lots of people, " phase 1" of The Wabi-Sabi Academy is opening on Saturday at 2pm. Please come along, if you can, to support us - and sample lovely Chinese tea and eat cake - then watch a demonstration of martial arts etc. Tea, cake and martial arts - got to be good !
