“You’re drunk so I’m going to let that go” Martin said as he tried to move out of the embrace, but found it more difficult then expected “You know your priests could help you exorcise some of these demons with words or his dick or whatever”

“Your new boyfriend, if he’s to be trusted,” and Dominic really wanted to think the bets of Pascal, but Martin wasn’t a reliable, unbiased judge of that man’s character. “No, no, you’re not a band-aid,” he says worriedly, so saddened by the idea of what Martin thinks their relationship is. “I don’t mean be there for her as a father, but as her godfather, you know? I don’t mean that we should be together. Do you think our relationship is what’s been stopping you from having a serious relationship?”

“Well that depends on the day” he half-joked “but I get what you’re saying and no, I don’t think our relationship has stopped me from getting someone serious. I think I stop myself from getting someone serious. Of course, Pascal was the first guy I even tried with. Maybe that’s why I need it to work so badly”

“Taylor will come and go,” Dominic sight, playing with the sleeve on Martin’s shirt. “But you and I will be constant in her life. We’ll be the men who raise her and the people she’ll come to when she needs help. I don’t want to live a world away from you. Stay with me in New York, fuck LA. It’s so Hollywood-y anyway.”

“You ain’t getting rid of me,” Martin said “who else is going to put up with me?” He looked at Dominic “You know I’m always going to be there for the two of you, but I don’t wanna be your band-aid, Priestly. They guy you have just to avoid finding someone you could actually be in love with someday. Whether it’s Taylor, Priest guy, or somebody else”

“I can’t move to LA,” Dominic frowns, sliding down in a more horizontal state of the body. “It’s too bright and perky, I’ll hate it.” Not to mention how horrible all that heat will be. “I have a great winter wardrobe,” he reasons as if that should tell Martin everything. “Taylor wants me to stay in New York and I want to move to Paris. I don’t know anymore.”

“You know LA is more than just what they show on television, right?” he teased “but I know you and sunshine anything are always at odds” It was clear something was going on to have Dominic show up at his place like this “What do you think is best for Akemi? Do you want Taylor in her life regularly?”

“No, no, no,” Dominic wipes his mouth with the back of his hand, holding tightly onto Martin’s bicep. “I have to go back home to sleep, the babysitter is going to look after Akemi only until 7am. I just want to talk to you. We never talk anymore.” He tries to focus his eyes on Martin. “How are you? What will you do without me as your neighbor anymore? I’m scared for you, Martin. You’ll miss me too much.”

Martin sat down “Okay” he laughed softly “I have to say this emotional side of you is kinda endearing” He rolled his eyes “I’ve been living in LA for two years and still see you more than I see my family. I think we’ll be okay, but if you and Akemi want to move there the real estate is really good”

“Just enjoy the affection. You probably don’t get it much, since you’re helplessly in love with a jerk. Do you know who you should fall in love with? The priest. He’s very nice, he’ll love you right. You need so much sweet love, baby,” Dominic explains and talking so much is visibly an effort, because he slurs and repeats some words here and there.

“He’s not a jorek, I mean, not most of the time” he said and after he got Dominic is water he handed it over “Me and priest just sound like a bad idea, besides, I’m not about to wander into your territory”  Waiting until Dominic drank some water he laid him down on the couch “Alright, I think it’s time for someone to sleep this alcohol off” Taking off Dominic’s shoes he sat them next to the couch “I don’t need to get a bucket for you to throw up in, do I?”

“If I was drunk enough I’d be passed out, or bend over a toilet,” Dominic says, dropping like dead weight on the couch, dragging Martin down with him. “Come here. You need so much love. I’ll hug you, it’s okay.” He coos, stroking up and down Martin’s back, like he does for an upset Akemi. “I love you so much, Wallace.”

“The night is still young so you may be seeing that toilet seat yet” he joked as tried to leave to get Dominic a bottle of water, but was stopped by a hug “Okay, I can accept angry drunk Priestley, but softy drunk Preiestly?” he sat up “Don’t tell me someone slipped something into your drink”

The babysitter was there till 7am, so it made no sense for Dominic to go straight to bed after the magazine’s new years party. Instead he stumbled further down the 11th floor hallway and knocked furiously on Martin’s door. “Happy new year!” he called, then repeated the greeting when the door opened and Dominic could wrap his arms around his friend’s neck. “You beautiful idiot. We made it another year. Why do you look sober?”

Martin was going to lose it iof he heard one more thing that even resembled a firework. Two roomates and still spending New Years alone was bullshit. He had a right to be drunk right now, so why wasn’t he? A knock on the door and he thought maybe Pascal had changed his mind and come back from his folks, but instead he was greeted with a drunk Dominic. Sighing he stumbled back and closed the door “Yeah Yeah Happy New Year” he lead him over to the couch “Because somebody had to be the buzzkill for this night” He sat Dominic down “Besides, you’re drunk enough for the both of us”

Martin: I know and you're probably right, but I don't know how many more vapid conversations I can have with 22 year olds.
