Family of Three Stranded in Egypt It was during Christmas break when we decided to take a family trip to Egypt at the beginning of March. We would meet two family members from the U.S. and explore the mysteries of ancient Egypt with our incredible son. Everyone needs to see the pyramids at least once in their lives! As we prepared for our trip, everything seemed slightly off. There was talk of virus in the media, but no real reason to cancel an experience of a lifetime. Everything started as planned, ancient Egypt was in full glory with a surprising and welcomed exception, almost no tourists! The sites were empty, there were a multitude of camels available, there were vacant hotels, plenty of available guides, and no required planning. We felt like we had scored big. Here we were, experiencing the best of Egypt without the crowds, without the hassle, easy taxi rides, no wait for the best restaurants, and an empty resort on the Nile in a delightful (cool and dry) time of the year to visit the desert. The news continued to disseminate alerts, failed governmental opportunities and predict worst case scenarios for local hospitals. Although in Egypt, there was beautiful weather, awe inspiring sites and endless activities. It was on the way to our Nile cruise, when our driver said we will be taking a private boat tour, because all other passengers had canceled their trip. Then moments later, the US Embassy in Morocco tweeted that Morocco closed their borders to any travel in and out of the country. Great! The three of us were trapped in Egypt and we needed to get our family back to the U.S. as soon as possible. My dad is older than 70, he checks the boxes of the diseases that complicate recovery, getting sick in Egypt was not an option. I immediately texted my dad (he doesn’t hear well and in a van with people), “You need to get out of here now, before you are trapped; This is getting serious!” When we arrived at our destination, Gabe, Rafa, and I checked in, but decided to get my dad and sister out of Egypt. They immediately booked a flight back to Cairo and within minutes, they were whisked away to Luxor airport. #travel #misadventures #kidstravel (at Egypt) https://www.instagram.com/p/CE_5kLuB3iC/?igshid=j3xjea4db1kx
