Hi, Wireless fans. It's with a heavy heart we bring you the news of the LAST EVER evening at The Wireless. After bringing you the best live music in the wonderful surrounds of Cha Cha Cha cafe for three years we've decided it's time to draw proceedings to a close. Increasing commitments at work and life mean we're no longer able to dedicate the time we'd like to making The Wireless what we want it to be. Over the last three years we've featured bands both local and not so that have gone on to grace stages around the world, gain critical acclaim in the press, perform on the David Letterman show and release albums on the likes of Atlantic records. We'd like to extend our thanks to each and everyone of them. Our thanks also go out to every person who came down for the chilli and music month after month (fortnight after fortnight when we first started). Without all of you we'd never have been able to keep this train rolling as long as we have. We'd like to invite you all to join us for one last hurrah at Cha Cha Cha. We've booked a couple of old favourite to bring the music and we're even doing one of those famous Wireless quizes. Plus our fingers are in some surprise pies. But Mum's the word on all that. So, please join us for our Last Waltz and make it one to remember. It's the Wireless TOMORROW! After a some last minute cancellations, hair being torn out (we're already pretty low on hair) and plenty of emails we now have a second act for TOMORROW night. Recommended to us by The Staves themselves (there's a ringing endorsement if you ever needed one), we're very pleased to announce Christof will be playing tomorrow's Wireless. Hailing from Holland, Christof has recently finished touring with The Staves. He makes the kind of music you're going to go home and tell everyone about. Along with Christof we have The Intermission Project and your usual selection of beers, wines, teas, coffee and fine fine chilli. We look forward to seeing you at Cha Cha Cha.

Efterklang have a new album coming out. Next month! That's something to get excited about. It's called Piramida and you can buy it on September 24th. Above is a rather lovely trailer for the album. Below is the track Hollow Mountain, taken from the album.

Dowling Duncan and redesigning the American Dollar:

Why the size? We have kept the width the same as the existing dollars. However we have changed the size of the note so that the one dollar is shorter and the 100 dollar is the longest. When stacked on top of each other it is easy to see how much money you have. It also makes it easier for the visually impaired to distinguish between notes.

Why a vertical format? When we researched how notes are used we realized people tend to handle and deal with money vertically rather than horizontally. You tend to hold a wallet or purse vertically when searching for notes. The majority of people hand over notes vertically when making purchases. All machines accept notes vertically. Therefore a vertical note makes more sense.

Why different colors? It’s one of the strongest ways graphically to distinguish one note from another.

Why these designs? We wanted a concept behind the imagery so that the image directly relates to the value of each note. We also wanted the notes to be educational, not only for those living in America but visitors as well. Each note uses a black and white image depicting a particular aspect of American history and culture. They are then overprinted with informational graphics or a pattern relating to that particular image.

$1 – The first African American president $5 – The five biggest native American tribes $10 – The bill of rights, the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution $20 – 20th Century America $50 – The 50 States of America $100 – The first 100 days of President Franklin Roosevelt. During this time he led the congress to pass more important legislations than most presidents pass in their entire term. This helped fight the economic crises at the time of the great depression. Ever since, every new president has been judged on how well they have done during the first 100 days of their term.

This is brilliant. The Scientific Power of Music. (ie. coming to The Wireless will make you feel good).

Hello, Friday fans. To see you into the weekend (and perhaps help you procrastinate a little over a coffee at work) here's a website which has to be seen to be believed. The Kitten Covers takes famous album covers... and recreates them with kittens. It takes the internet's staunch approach that adding kittens to anything makes it better, and we're finding it hard to disagree with this one. What's not to love?
