After Shane takes a paycut to join the centaurs Ilya continues the joke that as his "very wealthy husband" it is his responsibility to provide for Shane now. This is completely ridiculous because thanks to his endorsements Shane still makes more money than Ilya and even his lower salary is still an obscene amount of money. Plus they share a bank account. Unfortunately, despite all of those things, the joke still flips a switch in Ilya's brain.

I know people like to make fun of Shane for being like "yes, I have also not slept with anyone since last time" "I have also only been in love with one person" and fair enough, but I also think it's so important that he states that out loud to Ilya.

Ilya is a deeply insecure person when it comes to feeling unworthy of love, and a lot of their problems in tlg stem from not communicating, so I think that Shane saying plainly and without hesitation: "I love sex with you specifically. I love you. I love only you." probably means more to Ilya than people realize.
