What the hell is wrong with America?

In Aotearoa New Zealand, we had one domestic terror attack by a white supremacist (2019 Christchurch), and Jacinda took action and got rid of semi-autos with high-capacity mags.

In Australia, they got it right even earlier, and got rid of the semi-autos after the Port Arthur massacre. (1996)

In the USA? Democrats, Republicans, any government, do fuck-all. At this point, it’s a regular occurrence on NZ news to hear about another massacre in ‘Murica, and everyone just expects that no change will happen.

It’s hard to give a shit about shootings in the USA when it seems like Americans don’t give a shit either, which sucks, because I know that a lot of Americans do care. But if a democracy’s government is representative of the people, and it takes no action, it looks really bad to other countries.

Knowing this, it follows that the USA isn’t a well-functioning democracy. And if the USA isn’t a well-functioning democracy, it can’t be the international leader of democracies.

So who should be? Who should be the new leader of the democracies?

I don’t know. Probably the EU or something.

But the point is, if the USA can’t take action on domestic affairs when it is wanted by the populace, it weakens democracy worldwide. And that’s the last thing we want in Oceania and East Asia, with the growing influence and military presence of China.
