In my Devotionals and current Church Admin class, leadership is a huge focus. Having just had the privilege to sit in on the Global Leadership Summit, it is all very timely for me. The most impactful take away for me from the Summit was @iammiketodd using the drums as an illustration. As a drummer, my right hand is usually keeping 8th or 16th notes on the hi-hats, quarter notes on the bass and snare, all while staying on click and trying to serve the song rather than drop into a blast beat or 20-minute homage to Peart. Some folks call this âthe pocket...â I always heard it as being âin the groove.â Itâs the same thing and the principles apply to leadership. The body sits at the kit. The head knows whatâs got to be done. The ears are taking in information. The hands and feet all have independent jobs no matter the venue, song or style. If the Drummer is on click, the groove is created and the flow of the song is guaranteed. Each part of the Body has itâs place and purpose and when done right, there is a tasteful class that is achieved that appears seamless, effortless and fluid. Interestingly, from my devotionals, the Servant Leader has been emphasized a lot. Particularly, Jesus washing the disciples feet, God Himself did not just humble Himself to take on flesh, live among all of us who by our very sin nature are diametrically opposed to Him, but He served His disciples, He taught the people, He fed them, He healed them, He corrected them, and ultimately He suffered ridicule, physical anguish and death for them and all of us so that we may be restored to God. God set aside all He had going on, cleared out His Divine Schedule, chose to be born, to exist as a vulnerable baby in His motherâs womb, trusting that she would not attempt to get rid of Him due to the circumstances; being vulnerable as an infant and then grow up to do what He did. Whether we are believers who serve by being stay-at-home parents, by being the low man on the job site, by being a manager, business owner, pastor or what-have-you, Jesusâ model was not: âI do it all and nobody helps...â Or, âYou all canât make it without me...â Or, âIâm God, I donât have to do that...â #jesuschrist #god #jesus https://www.instagram.com/p/CDyqHJGlHjg/?igshid=ipulbmsa81vx
