Break
“What do you mean…an eviction notice?”
“You haven’t paid rent in two months.”
“But I can pay it, I swear!”
“I’m sorry…but you’re going to need to leave by the stated date, ma’am. We’ve let it go before. You don’t get any more chances.”
The thought of the conversation made Lyla sick to her stomach, which she held as she sat down at the table outside her shop. She was going to lose her apartment. Not only was she going to lose her apartment, but she hadn’t had money to pay the rent on the space she’d been using for her small shop…despite how little it was. She couldn’t stand the thought of it. Nearly everything she had in Cicero was being taken from her. What would she do now? With no place to live and no way to make money…she’d end up being like a normal jobless 17-year-old.
She might even have to move.
Leave Cicero?
The thought of it made her sick. What would she tell her friends, the few that she had made? What would she do now? There wasn’t anything to do. She was on her own…absolutely alone.
Despite the fact that she had someone she knew would care for her, she had never felt more alone. Not since her parents died.
"Hey" he saw the look on her face and came up to her, closing the distance in a few short steps "What happened?"Â
