Outside the Window

The Order was strict on how they were allowed to dress when they were out. It was annoying because the long coat didn’t always agree with the weather. Today was especially humid and that wouldn’t even be a problem if his twin, Matteo, wasn’t having one of his tantrums. Matteo wasn’t one to think before doing anything.
Marcelo had tried the usual places. The goth bar at the end of the street. The underground stripclub. Or the sorority house at the university. His search had amount to nothing. So he took a break, parking in front of the coffee house and letting the warmth touch his face. Trying to make the vision come wasn’t exactly fruitful, it was like a stubborn cat who would only come at its own will.
The question startled him. He wasn’t usually startled. Having heightened senses and all, he could usually at least guess if someone had approached him. His eyes opened and he frowned. Where did she come from?
“You are in New York City. Former Manhattan, specifically.”
“Well, of course we are.” Dian smiled. “Could you tell me the name of this...” she gestured around them. “... place? I’m afraid I’m a bit lost.” It wasn’t hard to act like a tourist. She’d only been to America once, when she was still a kid. New York would’ve changed a lot over the years, even if she remembered her way around.
Dian eyed this stranger a little strangely, taking into account the long coat. “It’s quite humid today, isn’t it?” She said casually, trying to make small talk. It admittedly was a question aimed more to his outfit than the weather itself.
