Will starts up the basement steps, Mike following behind him. Suddenly, Will turns to face Mike, “I know you let me win,” he states softly.

Mike smiles sheepishly, “I don’t know what you’re talking about”

“I saw the dice, Mike” Will laughs “I rolled a seven”

Mike takes another step up the stairs, one below the one Will’s on and turns his head slightly to the side “You deserved to win, so I’m okay with lying just this once”

Will rolls his eyes fondly and places his had at the back of Mike’s neck. Fingers thread through his hair, Will kisses him. “I’ll see you tomorrow Mike” They exchange a look infused with every other look they’ve shared ever since they made the best decision of their lives in kindergarten. Mike kisses him again, this one lasting a bit longer than the one before. They pull away, grinning, before Will carries on up the stairs. When the door closes behind him, Mike surveys the basement for the final time with a watery smile.

this is entirely too sappy but i just want to say before vol 2 that i have loved being a byler, it’s introduced me to so many passions i wasn’t aware of like writing, analysis and being a nerd online with all of you. I can honestly say that i wouldn’t be who i am today without it and maybe i wouldn’t be here at all as, it offered me escape when i needed it most. the characters are so personal to me, Will’s kindness will always inspire me and i can see so much of myself in Mike. it’s lonely being gay and byler has given me a special kind of hope and enjoyment. these characters will always be apart of who i am. i want the best for them and i trust the evidence but in case things don’t work out, all of that is still there and i think the byler community embodies what’s important no matter what.

We built a fandom that we could feel safe and happy and free in, and it means a lot to me! Maybe I’m just sensitive but I genuinely have cried over it nearing the end these last couple days.
