“I would be happy to.” Tabitha smiled widely, quite content that the man has allowed her to help. “How many should a bouquet have? 5 flowers?”
Thierry smiled back again. “I am very happy to hear that.” Help was always welcome and the company wasn’t ever too bad either. He nodded. “Five should be fine. Thank you for your help once again. What brings you to these parts of the city?”
“Oh! I just-I just wanted to bring some flowers for their graves…” Elizabeth held up a large bouquet of wildflowers that she’d picked that afternoon. “I just thought that, well, some of them wouldn’t have anyone left to do it, and that they ought to have flowers on their graves. I didn’t mean to bother or distract you. I can just leave them here if you like.”
Thierry nodded. He was always very happy when someone brought flowers to commemorate their loved ones. “Do you know where their graves are, or did you bring them for no one in particular?” He asked, kindly. If he could ever be of any service, he’d gladly help. “No, please! It is very kind and thoughtful of you. Shall I help you?”

Elysa had to go somewhere. Anywhere to pass the time, and not to be surrounded by the solitude of her cottage, without Noah there, and the sudden emptiness of the Inn. Ever since the slaughter of the innocent; both pirates and ‘‘traitors’‘, Elysa couldn’t find respite. So many children who perished; horrible, gruesome deaths. Fire. Drowning. One more worse than the other, but both resulting in untimely death, unjust death.
The ghosts weren’t abusive or aggressive. They felt pretty much the same way she did, helpless and scared. Alone. Without guidance, without anyone telling them what to do. She was supposed to be strong, supposed to be their guidance, but she couldn’t just talk to them. Too many things were at stake. One wrong move and she’d be declared a witch, and meet execution. She had to be careful. She had to go somewhere where people always talked to the dead, without the consequences.
The Cemetery.
The trek to the place where Thierry worked was pretty short, and she was shielded by the night and the pale moonlight. However, now that she stood among the grave stones, unseeing and unhearing to anything but the dead, Elysa reconsidered whether it was really a good idea. As children rushed to her, begging for her help, she felt her nails dig into her skin seeking relaxation, seeking something to clear her mind, but as abruptly as the ghosts came they vanished. Elysa lifted her gaze up and froze, as her eyes met another, living ones. Thierry’s.
It was very late at night but Thierry swore that he heard something move or someone walk in. Just to make sure that everything was safe, he changed into some clothes and grabbed a candle. He left the house as he made sure that Clara was still sound asleep and there was nothing wrong inside. As he made his way through the familiar paths that led through the gravestones, he soon saw someone. She was stood still and with her eyes closed. She seemed incredibly tense and suddenly all of that disappeared as she looked up. “Elysa? What are you doing here?” He asked, kindly.

Esmé nodded and hurried off to get the supplies. She wanted to take all the antibiotics in the cabinet, anything to save this man that she didn’t know but she knew the rules, that was allotted to each patient on a given day. This was war after all.
She returned in stages, setting everything down and sitting down on the edge of the bed to unwrap the bandages on the patient’s foot, muttering to him in French and smiling warmly. “The doctor will take care of you, he’s very good at his job,” she added in English, a promise she knew she couldn’t make but something that seemed to calm the patient none the less. She stood to let Hugh look at the foot and busied herself with the pills and adding the information to his paperwork.
The patient seemed to be handling it rather well, you could tell he was not the brightest man, but kind and hardworking. The sort of middle of the road person that Esmé found charming in the sort of way you find an elderly couple charming who are still very much in love after fifty years of marriage. She spoke to the man, in French as she as most comfortable with it than English, and asked about this home and his wife, all while keeping an eye on the doctor’s work.
Hugh focused on the man while Esmé went to get what he told her to get. He checked the man’s vitals and anything he could to see the signs that this man was healthy. He seemed to respond well to everything which made him feel better. They were all men he didn’t know personally but every life is a life worth saving.
He moved over to where Esmé put down the equipment. Hugh disinfected his hands and put his gloves on. He looked at her as smiled a tiny smile before turning to the patient and getting to work. He moved closer and did the most horrible part first, getting rid of the infection. Then he moved on to clean the wound and make sure that it wouldn’t infect again hopefully. It was useful to have Esmé do the paperwork and take care of everything else. He wrapped it all up and checked the patient once again. “Sir. I took care of the wound and I will have some check on it every hour. I wish you a speedy recover and if you need anything, I and Nurse Esmé will be here.” He said with a kind smile, offering his hand to shake.

Aurora had needed some time away from the chaos of the city, and was in need of a friend. Of course one man in particular came to mind, it had been far too long since she had seen him. She was also sure with all that had happened in Valencia that he was dealing with a lot and would be in need of some company as well. So when she had finished her work for the day she found herself in search of her friend, knowing she could surely find him at his work. “I only came to see a friend.” She said softly, offering him a warm smile.
Thierry had been working very hard the whole day. The whole week in fact. Ever since the victims had fallen, people had come to the cemetery in numbers that he had never seen before. Trying to find people, looking for answers or remembering loved ones. As he looked up, a beautiful woman and very familiar sweet smile suddenly caught his eye. “Aurora.” He replied as he faced her completely. “I am very happy that you did. Please, I have all the time for a friend like you. How have you been?” He asked with a smile.
The idea of trouble being rampant in the city sent sparks of fear through Colette. She thought only of her siblings and what was happening to them. Even those who had forgotten her. It seemed the streets calmed only a bit by the rain that was starting to downpour. Rain wasn’t going to stop Colette from the mission in her head. Turning the corner into the building she spotted Thierry with his back to her. Her wet hair clung to her face and her clothes dripped water onto the ground, but she was happy to see he was okay. “Thierry…” she said breathlessly. “You’re alright?”
Immediately after it had happened, Thierry turned to walk back to the cemetery. He decided to make sure that everything was sorted because he was certain that families wanted to bury or remember their loved ones or just the people who passed in general. He was walking outside in the rain as he decided to just nip into one of the shops when he heard someone call out his name behind him. “Colette?” His eyes widened. “You are completely drenched! Come into the warmth.” He said as he pulled her under the shelter. “Yes, I am fine. How are you?” He asked, looking her over.
Tabitha didn’t feel like sewing or selling antiquities at this moment. Too many things were on her mind and she’s decided that taking a stroll around the graveyard (which was quite ironic given the situation) could calm her down. However, when she heard a voice quite close to her left, she turned towards the dark haired man and offered him a kind smile. “No, not really. I was just walking around, but now that you have mentioned help, perhaps I could be of service?” The heiress asked, quite eager to help, even if it was only a small favor.
Thierry nodded in response. “Walking around mostly offers us a lot of peace.” He was rather surprised to hear her offering her help in return. He looked at her and smiled a small smile. “That is very kind of you.” He said, not used to such kindness from a stranger. “You could help me arrange flowers for the graves if you like.” He replied, motioning to the flowers behind him. “I need to make a small bouquet for each grave.”
Elysa chuckled nervously, exhaling in relief. “No, no need to apologize, really. I am just really jumpy lately.” She replied with an apology of her own, before a gentle smile washed over her features at a sight of her dear friend. Or, well, her brother’s dear friend, but that by default pretty much made him her friend as well, right? Anyone Noah trusts is worth trusting. “How have you been, Thierry? I haven’t seen you in a while.”
Thierry smiled, kindly at her. “I understand. These are strange times. You don’t know who might be coming up behind you.” He replied. It was nice to see her smile at be at ease again. He didn’t mean to scare her but a lot of people just wanted peace and quiet lately so they visited the cemetery. He really just wanted a break from that for now. He had never officially been friends with Elysa, but her being the younger sister of one of his closest friend made him think that they were kind of as well. “I have been very well, thank you. Times are incredibly busy right now. Everyone is looking for... peace.” He replied. “It has been some time. I apologize for that. How are you?”
Unlikely Meetings ~ Emilie & Thierry
Emilie ran. As soon as the ship went up in flames she had turned, throwing a hood over her head, and ran as fast and as far as she could. The Navy, that she had once been so proud to be a part of was now a disgrace, and she, part of it, had become an outcast. She had tried going back to the Inn, but had only been there for a moment before she heard the anger from people below. Now she didn’t know where she was going, but she knew that she needed to get away. She found herself at the cemetery, not remembering quite how she had gotten there. Hearing a voice, she jumped, turning to see a familiar face. “Thierry… I am sorry… You didn’t see me.”
Thierry was very surprised to see Emilie here. He normally ran into her when he was close to the sea and this wasn’t close to those waters at all. Her eyes were wide as she looked wildly around her. He wasn’t afraid or anything like that, if anything he wanted to know why she was here and what had happened. She looked close to petrified. “Emilie. Please.” He held up his hands to show her that he meant no harm. “Please. Can you tell me what happened?” He asked her, slowly.

Thierry was walking his final rounds through the cemetery. He mainly did it to make sure that no one had forgotten anything and that it wouldn’t get damaged then. A lot of people had been coming recently. It was incredibly busy right now since all the victims who had fallen during the ship attack. He mourned them like he did all others. For Thierry it didn’t really matter how a person died, death was death. Sooner or later he would come for us all. Just as he walked back, he suddenly remembered that he forgot something. With a sigh, Thierry walked back. When he neared the edge of the cemetery, he suddenly heard a bush rustle. He looked closer and asked, confused. “Emilie? Is that you?”

Esmé did have to admit that Doctor Redmond was rather attractive, many of the younger nurses agreed, fluttering around and whispering about him in the dinning hall. Esmé preferred her men bolder, rougher. Like Marcus, Marcus was nice.
She glanced at the doctor because she hardly needed to be told what to do. “Yes, doctor.” she said politely, checking bandages and smiling sweetly at the patient, she liked making people feel good and usually a smile was all it took. Esmé worked slow when she had the time because this place was usually so fast-paced, it was nice to take a moment. She opened the bandage on the man’s foot only to close it again quickly.
“Doctor,” she said quietly, looking up at Hugh and with a rather concerned look on her face, “can you look at this please?” She held open the bandage again so the patient couldn’t see but the doctor could. The infection that had started in the man’s toe and that they though they had handled had spread throughout his foot. “How would you like to proceed?” Esmé asked after assuring the patient that everything was fine. She knew the answer, it was usually surgery but she didn’t like it.
Hugh had noticed some of the nurses glance his way but wasn’t very familiar with the opposite gender. He found most women to be a little too superficial. He wanted a woman of strength and who knew her value and opinion. Besides, he was sure that they were only attracted to him mainly because of his outer appearance. Not because of his opinions or ideas. The nurse he was working with now however both infuriated and intrigued him. Hugh found it very irritating that she just let herself flaunt over every soldier who came in here with a big smile and sweet words for her. Very occasionally he caught a glimpse of something inside of her, which was what fascinated him so. Not that he’d ever tell her that.
Nurse Esmé immediately went to work. Even though he might not like her ‘frolicking around’, she definitely knew how to take care of someone. She followed the correct procedures without him even having to check on her. He was very impressed by her nursing skills and knowledge. Hugh sat next to the patient and asked him some simple questions to test his basic knowledge, making sure there was no brain damage. The man seemed to respond perfectly which was a good sign. Before she even spoke, he could feel that something was wrong.
He turned to her immediately to look into her blue eyes full of something. Hugh moved closer to where she was stood and looked at the wound as she held the bandage. He felt his heart grow heavy. This man was already battling for his life, and like most, couldn’t afford extra strikes. He pushed her hands away so he was holding the bandages now and she could grab the equipment he needed. “Get me a bowl with luke warm water and soap, make sure it’s completely clean and unused by anyone. Also, grab some painkillers if you can. Something strong and some antibiotics, if you can.” He murmured to her. He turned to the patient and sat down next to him. “Sir, we are regretful to inform you that your infection has returned. We will try our best to make sure that no surgery shall be needed because if it came to that, your chance of survival would be very low.” Hugh told him very directly, the soldier seemed to take it rather well. Sometimes the truth hurt, he had angry patients before now because he was too blunt. “I will ask you some questions to make sure that the infection hasn’t spread to the point that it would need surgery to save you.” He continued, looking at the patient as he kept an eye on his reactions.
Elysa spent the rest of the night observing the people getting in and out of the inn, her gaze attentive and watchful, more than usually. At the first sign of any quarrel, she would calmly ask everyone to either tone it down or leave, but fortunately, it seems that the rioting and the horrors avoided the little inn. Very possibly because she has had the horrors of her own evading her personal space and thoughts. The ghosts, rapidly multiplying in numbers.
It was around half an hour past the closing hours of the small tavern, and Elysa was cleaning the tables, trying her best to ignore the distorted and tortured souls beside her, wailing and demanding her presence. Just when she thought she would either snap or break something, a hand on her shoulder grounded her and she turned around with a surprised yelp, her heart drumming violently in her chest.
“You scared me for a moment there.”
Thierry was feeling quite restless himself. All this work had him sleepless and adding that the voices were only getting worse. It was safe to say that he hardly slept at all. He went to the Inn, hopefully to a place where he knew others and that they could offer a distraction from everything else. When he walked in, he immediately saw Elysa. He made his way over to her but she seemed very lost in thought. He just brushed her shoulder to get her attention and it seemed to be very unexpected as she yelped. “Oh!” He backed away from her. “I am so sorry!” He looked at her. “Yes, I could tell. I am awfully sorry, Elysa.”
“I am incredibly sorry, I am very busy right now.” Since the King had ordered for the attack on the ship, a lot of people had come either to find peace or to have someone buried or remembered. Some of the bodies were never found. Thierry felt numb thinking about what happened. At the end of the day, it was his job to take care of the bodies of people when they died, no matter how they died or when they died. But it didn’t feel right to have all of these people die like this. “Is there something I can help you with?” He asked, finally glancing up.
A World War I AU
Hugh Laurence Redmond was born December 20, 1892 in Newbridge, Oxford. His parents were incredibly wealthy, allowing him to have a good eduction. He has a younger sister that he loves very dearly. As soon as the war started, he was called in for duty. A few months beforehand, he finished his degree in Medicine. So he went to war but instead of soldier as a field doctor. This was his own choice, Hugh wanted to spend his life healing others and allowing them peace in their transition into the after life. He was placed in a mansion which was left by its owners, which the French had been using as a war hospital since. The hospital is very close to the front lines, so they get to see the soldiers who are on the brink of death and need their help. Being so close to the front line also brings its own dangers...

Esmé was cold, it was December and a house this large had drafts. She reminded herself to search for more blankets for the patients, not that there would be any. Is only she had some yarn or more wood or there wasn’t a war going on. A war that took from everyone it involved.
She trotted up the marble steps of the chateau, heading into the first wing full of men in non-critical condition. She enjoyed the attention from the soldiers, who watched her past with charming smiles, though some griped and asked where their food was. Esmé just smiled politely and assured them it would be there soon. She was more concerned about the men in the next room. Or just one man.
Marcus, a handsome Scottish captain, had declared that he loved Emsé only two days ago, a week after arriving with a bullet wound to the left leg and she was eating it up. He beamed at her from his bed at the end of the long room and she went to him, sitting on the edge of his bed under the pretext of checking his bandages. He would be released soon but he was going to write every day and when this war was over they were going to get married.
She looked up as the head nurse, a ghastly woman who thought she owned the place, cleared her though. “The doctor is doing his morning rounds in the second wing. Go help him.”
Esmé nodded, extracting herself from Marcus’ side and bowed her head as she scurried away, less the woman find more reasons to torture her. “Good morning, doctor.” She said as she came to stand beside the doctor in the second wing, a wing for people in or out of surgery, people who’s life expectancy they were not confident in. Emsé was not a fan of this man, he was too detached, regardless of how good of a doctor he was.
“Doctor Redmond!” A nurse called out his name again. He cast a glance that way and felt his heart sink. It was a soldier who had been brought in severely injured to a bomb being thrown into their cover. His face was damaged beyond repair and they only managed to find out his name from the letters that he carried with him, from his ‘darling Mabel’. Hugh made his way over immediately, apologizing to the other patient. He inspected the patient and he could deduce what was wrong fairly quickly. “He is getting a high fever which means that something might be making him sick. In the fragile state he is in, he can not afford any kind of illness. We’ll have to treat him here because there is no space anywhere else but please get something to divide him from the others.” He spoke to the nurse calmly. Once she left, he removed his bandages to look at the wounds. They looked still very fresh but he could see the skin starting to heal itself and no sign of infection. By this time two nurses had surrounded them with canvas dividers which would have to do for now. “Your health is slowly but surely increasing, Mr Fields.” He spoke to the soldier with a calm, some would call detached, voice. “I will come by later tonight again.” He left the soldier in the care of the two nurses as he walked out to continue his morning rounds.
Hugh Redmond walked through a corridor and into the second wing. When he entered the wing, he saw Nurse Esmé in front of him. That French woman was quite something to behold, as if she was a nymph casting a spell on all soldiers. She was an incredibly attractive woman, he wouldn’t deny that but they were in a place of war and no one had any time for such business. Especially not them. The main fact that he found rather annoying is that she seemed to be open to all soldiers as long as they smiled at her and promised her beautiful things. In his mind a woman should be treated better than that. As she probably heard him near, he still always wore his expensive wooden-heeled shoes, she turned to look at him. His heart lurched in his chest but he did not let it show. “Ms. Abraham, please follow me to our first patient.” He spoke up, clear and calm. Their first patient was a middle-aged man who had been shot multiple times by a machine gun. Due to his age, the healing process was slower and they had to keep a close eye on his wounds. “Nurse, can you please check the patient’s wounds while I do a mental examination.” He made it sounds like a question but it was more of an order.
[Greek Week]
Makaria sighed, shaking her head. “You know, you can stop for a minute. Smell the flowers. Or decaying corpses. Whichever scent allures you more. I’d go with the flowers, rather, but considering how you’re death-death, I really think you’d go for corpses.” Makaria chatted. “You’re rarely at Elysium anymore. Only the bad ones are dying lately, aren’t they?” She mused, puckering her lips in thought.
“Macaria, even though I am Death, I do not like the smell of decaying corpses.” Thanatos replied dryly, after her long chat. Though he was surrounded by it all, of course there were other things that he preferred to see or to smell but it didn’t matter. He had grown completely used to it and his heart nor mind cared any more. “What are you doing here, Macaria?” He asked as he watched her carefully. Sometimes her happy and chatty nature took him by surprise which is why he tended to always keep an eye on her. “At the Elysium, most inhabitants are happy and do not experience any pain which means it’s a lot quieter and peaceful. Here is a lot more pain and anger which is why they need me here. Nothing instils fear in the heart of mortals than seeing Death.” He replied, his black cloak moving around him as if he was darkness itself as well. “Shall we go for a walk?” He asked, he could use a break and it was always a good thing to keep her distracted.
