FF7C Annual Exchange

Meteorites, it’s time again for the Annual Fanworks Exchange! Sign ups are now open and will close at 11:59 pm EST on June 21st. Sign ups and assignments will be via AO3 (Archive of Our Own). If you don’t have an account, some of the mods do have invitations available. You can message with your email address OFF Anon on Tumblr or Twitter to request an invitation but they are first come, first serve.

Please read through the instructions carefully, and make sure to give us contact information in case we need to follow up on any details! We want to make sure we make the best matches we can.

Once sign ups close, the mods will begin the match up process to find you a match! Assignments should be out by end of day July 1st, but if there are any delays, we will let you know.

You will have until 11:59 pm EST July 31st to complete your gift. If you need to drop out for any reason, please let the mods know as soon as you can so we can find a pinch hitter. Don’t worry, we all know that life is a box of uncertainty right now, and there is no shame in needing to step away. Gifts will be revealed August 7th, so we have a bit of time to look after any late pinch hits.

As with last year we do have a section in the FF7Central Discord server for participants to hang out. Be careful not to spoil your gift for your giftee, but you’re welcome to join in for word sprints, collective screaming at characters for not doing what they’re told, and general shouting of encouragement.

FFVII Turk Week 2026

Thanks to @interfaceleader for submitting some prompts this year and asking if we’d be running the event.

Turks. The Investigation Sector of the General Affairs Department. The Department of Administrative Research. Whatever you call them, they know who you are, and what you’re doing there. You don’t want to be on their bad side, and unless they’re working for you, you don’t want them following you, not that you’d notice them unless they wanted you to. They’re an interesting bunch, full of secrets, their own and others.

Below we have the list of prompts. Feel free to be as creative with those as you want to, and take your time working on your entries, but please don’t forget to post them on the right date if you can. (But remember, late is better than never!) Don’t like the prompts, or need MOAR PROMPTS? Make up your own! Or pull from a previous year!

Pick one of James Baldwin's works and read it!!! The Fire Next Time is an excellent essay, most of us are familiar with the quote on gay white people from The Last Interview but not the rest of it. If Beale Street Could Talk even has a movie!

i just saw a post on reddit titled "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" and it was about OP clicking off a fic because they don't like the direction it's going in. slightly different context but can we all be more like this reddit OP. i think "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" should be the new "don't like don't read." dead doves may give you diarrhea but don't make that everyone else's problem.

Yeah, yeah, Cassandra Clare got her start writing fanfic, old news.

Rebecca Thorne wrote She-Ra fanfic before writing Tomes & Tea.

Matt Dinniman wrote GI Joe and Transformers crossover fanfic before writing Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Pierce Brown wrote Greek Mythology fanfic before writing Red Rising.

Andy Weir wrote Ready Player One fanfic that later got canonized by Ernest Cline before writing The Martian.

Fanfic has never been, and will never be inferior to published works, and writing one does not discredit or devalue the quality of your work when writing another.

Finally accepting this reality is what helped me to actually start writing again, and what helped me to complete the first pieces I had finished in more than a decade. Fanfiction is not some "inferior" form of writing.

If you're writing 18th century dialogue, this website lets you search words and phrases to double-check whether they were in use & meant what you intend. It doesn't include every period-accurate use of a word/phrase, but it certainly helped me separate genuine 18th century grammar from the vague tangle of 💬old-fashioned fancy-speak💬 I've internalized from TV and video games.
