Lecture on the History of Skywriting: Anne Carson and Faisal Bin Ali Jaber from Whitney Museum of American Art on Vimeo.
April 17, 2016: In this two-part event, poet Anne Carson performs her piece Lecture on the History of Skywriting with her collaborator Robert Currie. Cori Crider, lawyer and director of Reprieve US, then speaks with Faisal bin Ali Jaber, an engineer from Yemen whose brother-in-law and nephew were killed by a U.S. drone strike in 2012. Video evidence of this strike is included in the exhibition Laura Poitras: Astro Noise. Carson’s work is partially translated into Arabic for this event.

About the event: brainpickings.org/the-universe-in-verse/
On April 24, 2017 I joined forces with the Academy of American Poets and astrophysicist Janna Levin to host "The Universe in Verse" at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn — an evening of poetry celebrating science and the scientists who have taken us to where we are today, and a protest against the silencing of science and the defunding of the arts, with all ticketing proceeds donated to the Academy of American Poets and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Readings by: Amanda Palmer, Rosanne Cash, Janna Levin, Elizabeth Alexander, Diane Ackerman, Billy Hayes, Sarah Jones, Tracy K. Smith, Jad Abumrad of Radiolab, Sam Beam of Iron & Wine, Brandon Stanton of Humans of New York, and myself.
Poems about: Marie Curie, Isaac Newton, Caroline Herschel, Charles Darwin, Jane Goodall, Euclid, black holes, the Solar System, the number pi, and more.
Poems by: Adrienne Rich, Wisława Szymborska, John Updike, Elizabeth Alexander, Diane Ackerman, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and more.

The Weight of Mountains from Studiocanoe on Vimeo.
This is a short film about the processes by which mountains are created and eventually destroyed. It is based upon the work of British geographer L. Dudley Stamp, and was shot in Iceland.
Physical geography and geology is an enormous and fascinating subject, and this film only touches upon the surface of the discipline. For those who wish to further advance their knowledge in this field, additional reading and research is recommended.
The film was created as part of The Weight of Mountains filmmaker residency program. For more information please visit twom.is/
The voiceover was largely based on publications from 1951, so please forgive the outmoded use of the term "mankind" and "his" actions.

The Evanesced: Embodied Disappearance 2017 from Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle on Vimeo.
The Evanesced is an exhibition at CAAM featuring a suite of 100 drawings, 7 paintings and a performance by Kenyatta A.C Hinkle was on view from March 2nd-June 25, 2017 curated by Deputy Director, Naima J. Keith. On April 27, 2017 Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle debuted an in gallery performance of The Evanesced: Embodied Disappearance, in which she evoked various types of women navigating historical and contemporary contexts. The piece—which includes a soundtrack of whispers, shuffles, and snippets of popular and underground music—adds another dimension to an emotional examination of erasure and violence, a fraught part of the black female experience.
Desirability is a clever thief. It steals you away from your body.
