Hello welcome this is another this is gimmick kind of blog.

This blog is primarily handled by Mod Kirby, a plural with borderline intellectual disability. Whenever referring to Kirby, please use it/its and masculine terms.

This blog focuses on experiences of those with IDDs aka intellectual disabilities / intellectual development disorders.

Anti-IDD is a form of ableism & bigotry against those with IDDs.

In our inbox, you can send in experiences of experiencing or encountering Anti-IDD Ableism or maybe, on more positive notes, solidarity with IDDs.

You can as well tag/@ us whenever there are posts actively being Anti-IDD or discusses Anti-IDD things.

This blog is inspired by @this-is-ableism, @this-is-pluralphobia, & @thisis-intersexism! thank you for inspiring Mod Kirby to leading to the creation of this blog.

There was an older blog for this, which was @this-is-anti-idd-archieved, but Tumblr was causing multiple issues for it alongside the other IDD blogs handled by Kirby. So thank you for the understanding of why had to start anew.

Hi, I was the anon talking about the lady where no one told her periods were a thing. I read your reply and I think you might like to know this

The DSP company I work for has extremely strict rules about talking about our clients outside of work. We're never supposed to discuss them in a public place or text about them to someone who isn't a coworker. For anything social media, I have to get permission from the client, any applicable guardians, and three of my higher-ups. Even stuff that isn't identifying. And then the actual post needs to be read and approved by HR and the public relations team. Some clients we aren't even allowed to photograph at all, and there's a photo consent form in every individual service plan. If I post stuff about them without jumping through the hoops and I get caught, I'd get in massive trouble or possibly even fired depending on circumstances. As I should. This is taken extremely seriously because someone posted about a client who was hiding from an abusive family and that post nearly got the guy kidnapped

For both the safety and the human dignity of my clients, I am required to get permission and jump through hoops to post about them. As I should

(This is being shared with permission.) Anti IDD is no one ever bothering to tell a girl I work with about periods because they decided she didn't need sex education due to her IDD. So the first time she got one, she was very understandably freaked out and thought she was dying. Which is a very reasonable reaction that could have been avoided by just telling her about the menstrual cycle.

This is anti-idd! Education like this is important for everyone. I hate that they thought she didn't need it. Alongside thank you for getting permission to share this anon. That shows a lot of care and respect.

Hey! We're working on things slowly on our main blog we want to share more of since this blog (anti-idd + our other idd themed blogs) is very draining.

We're very passionate about art, especially about video games and would love to as a person with borderline intellectual disability to receive support to continue this passion of ours.

Asks are welcome for our main, but sometime during this upcoming week we'll be sharing more about what we're working on. A lot of this blog only mentions the bigotry people like me face, but recognizing the good of our lives is just as important too.

So tumblr had a moment due to us using a vpn (Tumblr shadowbans from a glicth due to VPNs) and that affected this blog and our IDD blogs too. So we have to wait until tumblr fixes that, until then, our certain blog is now the one shared below

so if possible, go support us there. I hope tumblr can fix the problem quick, but sometimes it takes months to resolve accidental shadowbans.

i really hope this doesn’t come off rude, but im genuinely very curious.

was reading the posts you have about common sense and yeah i get it, social cues are dumb and it can be confusing but i think common sense in general is logical? Like, what… did you… expect to happen in a situation that has incredibly predictable outcomes? do people not see that?

So, I'll like to say that common sense is typically something people learn and then have that information stored somewhere in the mind. Intellectual Disablity affects that (same with other disorders and disabilities). Sure it's logical, but not everyone has or understand that logic the same way as everyone else. Some people won't even have the examples of common sense you listed. Not everyone even expects a result either, or have the incorrect idea of what'll happen. Intellectual disability affects that.

You gave a really good example! A lot of fictional media teaches 'common sense', but not everyone would always see it and understand it! You also gave me a big laugh and smile with these tags so thanks for that.

Someone at work took my half done drink (that I sitting next to) and threw away before giving me time to use AAC to say "that's mine". Apparently "thought was trash" (even though I right next to it)

This isn't anti-IDD, but I was wondering how non-IDD people can be good allies for IDD folks.

One way to be good allies is to listen to us. Either it be through our voice, body language, or a help of a caregiver communicating for us. A big thing that people do that isn't very ally of them is not listening to us.

Another way is to acknowledge that not all of us are the same and have different needs and wants. Though this probably also stems from listening to us.

Correct people about things! Like the usage of the r slur for example! How we're affected and etc. Correcting misinformation is a great way to help us.

Another way is to alsp spread awareness about us. For example the intellectual disability/general IDD and Borderline Intellectual Disability flags are fairly new, so having more people know about those flags would be a nice way to spread awareness and a way to recognize us!

There's more ways, but brain is fuzzy. So others can add in the comments or reblogs on how to be a good ally.

Attempting to ask a group I'm in if there's a chance I have some sort of learning disability and they basically got told "well obviously your teachers/parents failed to teach you or you didn't try to understand that subject better"

I'm just trying to understand if I need to research how punctuation other than full stops like periods, exclamation points, and question marks work outside of copying what I think other people do because I've never understood it when it was taught to me multiple times ;-;
