i just wanna talk about the b99 ladies for a sec

amy santiago is so well written. she’s the first female nerdy character ive ever seen that isn’t simultaneously a killjoy, and you’d think that dating a slightly immature, wild & reckless guy would make her like that, but she joins in the fun with him (i.e halloween heist!!!) instead of perpetuating the whole “girls dont know how to have fun” thing and she really does have two sides to her, her whole binder and numbers enthusiast face and then she turns around and takes absolutely NO shit from anyone. and even though i dont have much in common with her she’s easily one of my favorite characters ever

and rosa diaz. it is so hard to find a badass woman that is just badass because she wants to be, not cause she went through some tragedy that made her that way (unlike male characters) and it’s just such a joy to see a woman celebrated as this fearless, leather jacket wearing, motorcycle-riding, mysterious, property-destroying character that is also so protective of their friends and would most likely kill for them. women aren’t often celebrated for their ability to destruct and their recklessness and the fire inside of them, and rosa diaz is a perfect encapsulation of that.

and god, last but not least, gina freakin linetti. i have NEVER seen a female character be allowed to be unapologetically cocky and self absorbed without any sort of demonization or consequence. instead, you LOVE gina linetti. you aspire to BE gina linetti and have her state of mind. and the fact that she’s the only non-cop civilian in the squad, but she’s arguably the bravest and/or smartest out of all of them (i.e “gina are you scared?” “scared that you won’t let me use a flamethrower. and use it to throw flame.”) and while it seems on the surface that she doesn’t care about anyone, her bond with every one of the characters is so strong you know she would do anything for them. let more female characters be snarky assholes.

i used to get self-conscious over the smallest things but friends let me tell you that today i had to smuggle a furious 8ft python onto the bus during the school rush and not a single person noticed. not one. if people don’t care enough to notice a shopping bag writhing and seething with barely-contained reptilian hatred then i promise you that no-one will pay any attention to that blemish you’re fretting about or how you’ve done your hair

Steve, Bucky, and touch

Can you imagine how charged physical contact has to be for Steve and Bucky, after everything?

In one corner, you have Bucky Barnes, who went seventy years without experiencing or getting to express any kind of affection. He’s such a loving person. There’s no way he’s not touch-starved and full of pent-up tenderness. In the other corner, you have Steve Rogers, who lost and grieved and mourned Bucky. Grief is such a visceral, physical thing – the times that I’ve lost loved ones, the knowledge that I’d never hug them again broke me over and over. There’s no way Steve hasn’t thought, “What wouldn’t I do to have him close just one more time?” 

Then, you throw in their massive guilt complexes, and the fact that the first time they touched in the new century they were both thrown into, it was violence. You know Steve has nightmares about choking Bucky out on that helicarrier, and that Bucky tortures himself thinking about almost beating Steve to death. And then the saving each other! Steve knows that Bucky’s hands are the hands that pulled him from the water and didn’t let him drown. Bucky knows that Steve’s hands threw down the shield and cast aside everything to haul Bucky up and take him to safety. 

They were so casual and affectionate before the fall and the ice, but now? Every touch has to be a fucking prayer, a song – a broken Hallelujah. One touch probably turns into four, escalates into making out and tearing off clothes against the nearest wall. The lack of hugging in CA:CW wasn’t for lack of want – it was from too much want, too much meaning. 

Personally, this is what I’ll be thinking about in the very likely event that they no-homo don’t touch in the next movie. When Steve grabs Bucky’s shoulder the one time, or whatever, remember that Bucky’s probably thinking, ‘Be cool, man. Wilson will never let us live it down if he catches us in public again.’
