“Oh that was the peak of his career I think. When he was a kid with a bowl cut. His personality definitely plummeted after that, but his music isn’t too shoddy time to time. Lad can still sing even if he’s become a shitty adult.” Essie comments. She doesn’t even pause at his ask either, she starts to softly sing the words to him. Drawing closer to make sure he could hear. Finishing off early in the song so as not to bore him.
“–Ay love, the wise men followed the star The way I followed my heart And it led me to a miracle Ayy love, don’t you buy me nothing (don’t you buy me nothing) ‘Cause I am feeling one thing, your lips on my lips That’s a merry, merry Christmas.”
With that Essie hums in return. “What if someone steals you away in your sleep? You’ll have to find a seat where I can keep an eye on you. You’ll grab a passer by an they’ll never be free if you fell asleep deeply!”
“Ooooh, lots of judgement for a bloke you haven’t met, unless you have,” he teased, light in his tone even if he wasn’t in his steps. He really was sleepy, his movements was delayed and less precise than he would have liked, but he wanted to stay up for her. It did help when she drew him near, her soft voice in his ear.
The song was sweet, especially from her lips and Danny hummed no tune in particular to join in. “Bit Jesus-y, but you’re a good carol singer,” Danny smiled down at her.
“Steals me away in my sleep? Like Freddie Krueger?” he misunderstood due to how tired he was. “I’ll knock out somewhere nearby so you can watch over me, love,” Danny agreed, kissing the top of her head. She’d look out for him very well, so he took the opportunity to stop their dancing and step back from her. “You’re so beautiful tonight, Ess, I’m glad I came back to come with you.”
