Description (Death TW)
Elsa is very reserved, but can be the sweetest once she opens up to someone. Growing up, she was kind of curious and liked to experiment with her magic, but that obviously changed once she hit Anna with her ice magic by mistake. Before the incident, Elsa and Anna were best friends, but after that incident, her parents treated her differently, constantly reminding her that her magic was dangerous. The fear she saw in her parents eyes when she hurt Anna, along with seeing how her magic affected her sister, was enough to make Elsa fear her own magic as well. It was hard for her to be distant from Anna after that, knowing she was hurting her sister by shutting her out, but she slowly adjusted over time, knowing it was better to hurt her this way than with her magic again. She’s genuinely believed that keeping her magic and the truth from Anna is what is best for their family.
She thought her life was doing okay until their parents’ accident. It was like she had to adjust all over again, and the two people who knew her better than anyone else, the only ones aware of her magic, were gone. After she was able to mourn, she had to decide what the next steps were for her and her sister. Anna was the only family she had left, and while she wanted to be close to her again, she was still scared. She was still so young, but was expected to take over their family’s business after their parents passing. Elsa knew magic wasn’t frowned upon of course, but she still believed she should never reveal her powers to anyone until she had them under control, for the safety of everyone around her. Not being able to control her powers makes her feel weak, and that’s the last thing she wants people to see. She feels like she needs to find someone trustworthy that can help her control her magic, but for now she sticks with herself and her gloves.
Headcanons
- Elsa initially wanted to complete college online, but forced herself to take in person courses to prepare for all her responsibilities for her career and adjust to being around other people more often. She didn’t really open up much, but she did make a few friends. She majored in business and minored in political science.
- She also had a secret relationship during college, but ended the relationship before she graduated. She felt like love was something that wouldn’t last, and it was also a distraction to her future. With such a busy career path ahead of her, it didn’t make sense to continue stringing someone along. A big reason she kept the relationship secret was because she felt guilty for being so distant from her own sister but not with someone she’d just met in school. She never revealed her magic to them though — just like how she is secretive with the rest of the world, she kept many secrets from this person, too. This was the closest she’d ever gotten to someone besides her parents and sister though, so she still misses them sometimes and thinks about them. (This connection is open if anyone wants to plot with it!)
- Taking over Arendelle Ice was really hard to adjust to at first, but it kept her busy and less focused on her magic. Working so much and staying busy makes her feel in control and level, and she knows she has to keep her appearance calm and composed for the public eye.
- She is an avid reader. She didn’t have much to do besides read while growing up, so reading has become a part of her. She likes to try to find out more about magic and its history in the area, but she also does love to read fiction. In her free time, she still often reads poetry or novels despite her busy lifestyle.
- No one has been in Elsa’s room besides her parents, and there’s a reason for that. Her room is an icy wonderland, covered in frost, snow and ice from the floor to the ceiling. She tries to melt it when she practices her magic, but only manages to add more to the mess. She’s very insecure about it because it’s a reminder that her magic is out of control.
- She was hesitant to practice her magic while their parents were still alive, but once they were gone, she realized she couldn’t let her magic control her life forever. She’s slowly practicing and trying to control them while hoping she will meet someone more experienced that can help.
- She wants to get closer to people and be more confident in who she is, but she’s just so scared of hurting people. The closer she is to someone, the harder it is to control her emotions, which in turn makes it harder to control her magic. It’s a vicious cycle.
- Elsa has a cold aura to her because of her magic. She is always bundled up, always wearing her gloves, and is almost always holding something warm in her hands (coffee, hot cocoa, etc.)
- Elsa hates summer. The warm weather makes her feel drained often and it’s hard to wear her gloves in the heat. Summer is when she finds herself staying in her room the most, finding more comfort in the cold confines of her bedroom.
- She likes to drink wine to wind down and relax, but never more than a few glasses. She doesn’t like the feeling of getting drunk because of the feeling of vulnerability
- Bottling her emotions has gotten tougher recently. Sometimes she feels like she’ll snap easily under the pressure, and isn’t sure how much longer she can keep so many secrets to herself. A part of her wonders why she keeps holding herself together and who exactly she’s trying to impress at this point. It’s the reason that she has been considering telling Anna about her magic finally, but the idea is very conflicting.
