Actually, with all due respect to the mawkish and protracted self-pity orgy that is Tumblr on New Year's Eve, I graduated from college, got a professional job, moved across the country, spent quality time with my family, and stabilized my finances in 2014. There were hard things, scary things, unlucky things, stressful things, and unexpected hardships. I don't have everything I want, and nothing is perfect. The long-anticipated successes were preceded by years of sometimes grueling effort. But here's the thing. The successes were anticipated. You ain't never just gonna be handed the life you want, Tumblr. It won't happen. But you also aren't the tragic antihero of some nihilistic manifesto. So stop acting acting like it. For most people, life actually is what you make of it, in the long run at least. So for the love of god, stop pitying, and start anticipating.
