Walton Ford “Falling Bough” - Inspired by past stories of massive flocks of birds perching on trees to the extent that the tree would fall due to the added weight. The birds depicted in the painting are Passenger Pigeons, a species that once had a population of three to five billion but went extinct in 1914 due to over hunting and habitat loss.
