A New Journey| Closed RP with Grem

“Sorry.” His voice churned out like shifting gravel. He took a slow pull from the bottle, “About being quiet.”

Claudia shrugged as she took another pull from her bottle. “It’s okay, ” Claudia told him with a small smile. “I’ll forgive you this time. Besides… I can’t stay mad at your for long. But I would like a few answers…”

Claudia stopped and looked at him, her eyes a bit more serious. “But later…” Claudia told him. “I just want to talk… you and me, nothing more. I missed your company… a lot. ”

She smiled a little bit more, trying to make him feel a little bit more at home. She had missed Grem quite a bit and wanted to spend time with him.

Grem worked around the coffee table to the far side of the couch and eased down onto it with a slow and steady exhale. “You want answers, and I owe you more than that.”

The ogre straightened his right leg and leaned back into the couch. “Ask whatever you wish my dear. It is good to spend time with you.”

A New Journey| Closed RP with Grem

Claudia found herself back at a familiar place. She knew the sights and the smells far too well, as if she had been waking from a distant dream. She was sitting in Grem’s old apartment wearing a pair of old jeans and a torn old t-shirt. In her left hand. she had a cold Chocolate stout beer and in her right, she had a rag she had used to dust off the furniture.

“Hey…” Claudia called into the other room. “Why don’t you take a break..? I’ve got some beers in the fridge. Or you can at least come into the room and join me. You’ve been quiet since you came back… ”

She looked down at her drink sadly, she wondered how much he had been hiding. “Besides, I missed your company.”

Dull thuds and a slight creeek from a loose floorboard accompanied the sounds of the behemoth humanoid of an ogre as he entered from the kitchen. He clutched a dark brown beer bottle, one of the large ones with well over a single pint, like a small medicine bottle in his left hand and leaned on the cane in his right.

“Sorry.” His voice churned out like shifting gravel. He took a slow pull from the bottle, “About being quiet.”

Grem cleared his throat with a sound like slate dragging across stone, "Boo."

"I’m busy," Will muttered in reply, distracted behind the police tape of a methodically deserted crime scene. "Go talk to Lestrade."

"You talk to Lestrade. I have better things to do than talk to a cop," Grem grunted.

"Besides," Grem noted. "This is cut and dry. You just don't want to admit who did it."

"Well, that’s lovely positive thinking…" she murmured. She couldn’t help smiling, though, when he mentioned the kids, and nodded. "Yeah, um, twins. One each. Ash and Fleet. And Fiona, of course, she’s married now."

"Ah twins! Wonderful to hear." Grem smiled. "But what about you? How have you been Angela?"

Grem hugged her tight, but not too tight, and listened. After a pause he replied, “It took very dark magics to raise me from the dead. I’m glad you were not among those who tried.”

"By all the laws I should never have been brought back, but nonetheless I am here now." He continued to hold her close to him, grateful for the contact and her company.

Claudia continued to rest her head on Grem’s shoulder.She felt her eyes fluttering shut as she stayed calm. “I wouldn’t do that… all magic comes with a price,” Claudia murmured as she felt herself falling asleep.

"Grem… I need to go get some sleep…" Claudia murmured as she hugged Grem a tiny bit more.

"Alright little one," Grem scooped Claudia up in his arms and moved carefully through the room. "Let's get you off to bed."

Grem's voice thrummed with power as he spoke, the ground literally shaking with every syllable ever so lightly, "So, you are Leyman's son? I knew your father, though he isn't where he used to be. Tell me child, have you learned any special talents yet?"

That was the third time this month the wards had done all of nothing to stave off the obviously paranormal. Wonderful. A mental note was made to have them spruced up if he lived through this particular encounter. Only one paranormal came to mind who would use the word “father” in reference to Dad, and though the voice didn’t match, the vocabulary and suspected motive did.

As his mug shattered on the ground, he clutched the counter and tried to find the source of the voice. The largest shard he could find was snatched up to defend himself. Punier than usual, but it was something. Where was Algernon when he was needed? “This residence is protected,” he called, unsure where to aim or look at any given time. “You know my dad, obviously, so you know that any harm to come to me will be repaid ten-fold.”

A nearly imperceptible gasp eked out of Fleet’s throat as he staggered away from the event, almost dropping his sorry weapon in the process. Out of spite or distrust, he nearly dropped it on purpose a second time, but deemed that a waste of a perfectly good mug. It was instead placed delicately on the counter he grasped.

The voice’s logic was sound, if nothing else, but being raised a Leyman taught one better than to trust only the logic of non-corporeal powerhouses. Therefore, he made a point of seeking out one of Algernon’s daggers, iron and silver weave, before carefully opening the door.

"I’m armed," he warned with steel in his voice, "and I don’t trust you."

"I'd expect nothing less child. Now will you invite me in or shall we continue this discussion from opposing sides of your threshold?"

Grem looked at the knife, "A quality piece of worksmanship, but are you sure you know how to use it?"

"You’d think I’d be used to it by now….Thought you were suppose to be dead? Not that anyone around here stays dead for very long, you’d think I’d be used to that, too, but…"

"Ain't that the truth, and yeah, I'm supposed to be dead. I figure it's a matter of time before it all hits the fan. Resurected fae, heh. Still. It's good to enjoy seeing people before it all goes down."

Grem shrugged and sighed, "How have you been Angie? Rumor is you've had a couple wonderful children."

"I feel like I’m missing out on something…"

"I get the same feeling all the time."

Claudia wrapped her arms around him and with a small sniffle, hugged him gently. All the rage that had been kept in her tiny body was gone. She was trying to keep herself from becoming sentimental.

"Y-Ya know… Ol’ Ben said you were never coming back…" Claudia murmured. "No matter how hard I trained or practiced my magic… nothing in the world was gonna bring you back… but now you’re here."

She tried to keep herself from crying, knowing far too well that the whiskey had made her extremely vulnerable and prone to mood swings.

With a wave of his massive hand and a low rumbling in his throat the ceramic shards of the mug leapt off the ground and snapped onto the shard, one piece after another, until Finnegan stood there threateningly holding a mug by the brim of the cup.

"If I'd come to cause you harm then your wards would have made more noise, and you would be in as many pieces as your mug was. Relax young Leyman, I come before you peacefully."

Grem's tone was nonconfrontational, almost to the point of coming across as not seeing the child as a threat.

Claudia squeaked as he picked her out and licked her. Claudia’s face twitched as she remained silent in his arm as she tried to recover from her licking. “I… I suppose I deserved that…” Claudia murmured as she continued to twitch slightly.

Shortly after she got over the fact that someone licked her, she leaned her head onto Grem’s shoulder and rested it there. “I missed you too, Grem… alot,” Claudia admitted in a soft voice.

Grem held her close against her, it filled him with warmth and joy to see, hear and feel Claudia again. They had been apart for so very long, and he had missed no one so much as he had missed her.

"It's okay," Grem said. "I'm back now."

Claudia impacted Grem’s palm with a slight “hrmph!” as she reached at the ogre. She flailed her arms for a second before she stopped and stood there. Suddenly, a evil grin spread across her face as she stood there.

Claudia then decided to take a quarter step back and lick Grem’s hand from the base of his palm to the base of his middle finger. She stood there snickering, thinking she was a comedic genius.

Grem's brows furrowed as he took a moment longer than it should have to figure out what she'd just done. Then one corner of his mouth ticked up in a smile as he released her head.

"Two can play at this game," He said as he pinned Claudia's arms to her side with both his hands and picked her up, licking up the side of her neck, face and hair as she squirmed in his grasp.

Claudia calmed down as he spoke the first time. Hearing that he actually missed her made her feel a tad bit better. Her face softened into a small smile with slightly flushed cheeks. It wasn’t until he brought up Toot that she lost her mind. Her face turned pale as her eyes turned murderous and cold. She screeched as she ran at him.

"I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!" she screamed at the top of her lungs. "I’M NOT SOFT YOU ROYAL PAIN IN MY ASS!"

Grem reached out a hand and gently closed his massive palm and fingers over her head so that his calloused palm rested against Claudia's face.

"Take a deep breath," He said calmly, "You gave pizza to Toot for nothing in return, it's not the end of the world."

"Now," He said in a more resolved tone, "I'm not letting go until you decide to calm down."

Claudia huffed as she slapped his arm again. “Yer a jerk…” she muttered as she looked up at him. She narrowed her eyes as she crossed her arms across her chest.

"You left…" Claudia muttered as she grabbed the whiskey bottle. "Shit hit the fan, and now Toot Toot keeps coming to my damn door looking for pizza! Look at what you’ve done!"

Suddenly, a large gust of wind raged through the room, threatening to knock the ogre down. Claudia’s arms were crossed as she tapped her foot. “An’ what do you ‘ave to say for it..?”

Grem shook his head and gave a small grin as he widened his stance to help resist the gale. He called back to her in a low voice which made the floorboards quiver, "I missed you Claudia. A lot."

He gave a low, rumbling chuckle, "And I never promised Toot pizza from you, I just think he knows a soft touch when he sees one."

Claudia hiccupped slightly as she looked up at him and pointed at him. “I’ll ‘ave you know that I was doing good!” Claudia told him as she placed her hands on her hips. “And yer one t’ talk!”

Claudia slapped his shoulder and then grabbed his ear in a firm, white knuckled hand. “Where the ‘ell ‘ave you been?” she scolded. “You could ‘ave called me and told me you weren’t dead, you bloody arse! You are a terrible, terrible man, Grem son o’ Grum! I ought t’ kick yer arse! Bloody arse!”

Claudia then proceeded to release his ear from her grasp and smack Grem, over and over with balled fists. She didn’t hold back as she struck with precise punches that she had learned from Old Ben, the gym owner that Grem had introduced her to.

Grem stood there and let him hit her four or five times before wrapping his arms around her and lifting Claudia in a hug which allowed her to feel his warmth, compassion and strength.

"The afterlife is no picnic, I have no phone, and if you say my father's  name again I'll squeeze you 'til you pop." He whispered in her ear as he held her close against him.

Slowly, almost reluctantly, he put her down.

Claudia slowly turned and looked at him, her mouth gaping slightly. “Oh b-bloody ‘ell I knew I shouldn’t ‘ave drank ‘alf of the whiskey I did…” Claudia whimpered as her eyes welled up with tears. “Oh my god, I’m ‘allucinating again… b-bloody ‘ell, is that you?”

Grem reached out one massive hand to catch her shoulder so that she wouldn't trip over backwards in her drunken state, "Yes Claudia, it is me."

He gave her the same warm, empathic smile he'd given her dozens of times before, "Now when has anything good ever come of you drinking whiskey?"

"I’m not in a good mood…" Claudia grumbled. "If you’re going to hound on me… I suggest you turn around and walk away. "

"Are you so certain you would have me simply turn away and go when I have come so very, very far to see you?" Grem whispered quietly.
